I’m on my second 1911 and ive always been in love with em!!! I’d trust a 1911 any day over any other pistol really.sounds stupid but I love em so much I got 1911 tatted on me in my army days at fort eustis lol
If you want more capacity, go with a 2011. Next handgun I was considering is the RIA GI standard FS HC (rock island armory government issue standard full sized high capacity), which is a full sized 1911 just like the one you showed in the video except it uses double stack magazines. MSRP was $608 I think, at least last I checked. Gives 14+1 of .45 acp.
I’ll be praying for you brother, for your legs and also for your family. You are a great dad!! Keep up the great videos! Love my rock island armory 1911 btw
The 1911 was perfectly engineered for my hand and the most comfortable. Call me weird but i love the safy and my thumb rests right in top when i grab it and push down on the safety its as economical as a foot rest on a bike. I do like double stacks 👋 and i have all the ria versions for 9,22tcm 45 and 10mm all in high capacity these are all super fun and pretty accurate. the double stack feels perfect and its barely wider than a single stack.
I have the same model, mine is all black tho got a chance to finally shoot it last weekend im very im impressed with mine.... In my past i have shoot a few 2000 dollar 1911s and i can honestly say minuse the finish and polish i didn't notice a difference rock island makes excellent 1911s at an affordable price im a cnc machinist by trade do lots of work for the dod and honestly thats where the money comes it cnc and polish...hope ur health improves and look forward to more content.
Just bought a RIA 1911 45 acp fs A1 model a few days ago took it apart cleaned, lubed it and shot it works great. I like how tight and solid the gun is designed I feel like it will last me a life time. I usually watch Paul Harrell and hickock 45, just started watching this channel it's been very informational thanks for the good content.
Nothing beats a 1911 trigger. Alloy frames help narrow the weight difference vs the polymers. If your in a 10 rd state the benefit of hi cap mags are out the window. You can also beat them to death with a 1911.
in Arizona we do not have magazine restrictions but i still carry 1 of my many 1911s 99% of the time and i carry 365 days a year. i trust my life and the lives of my 4 kids and my wife on the 1911s i carry
I don't have a 1911, but i do carry a Springfield xd tactical in 45. It has a 5 inch barrel and has a capacity of 12 +1. I carry it all the time in the winter and fall.
I have to agree. I own several handguns including a subcompact Sig (9mm) and a compact Springfield (45 ACP). But my full size Colt 1911 in 45 ACP overall is more comfortable to carry concealed, prints less, & I'm more accurate with it than with the other handguns even though I practice with them more. It is just more fun to shoot the 1911 and seems like more work to shoot the other two to try to get similar, but not the same, results.
EDC 1911's recently became even more viable with Rock Island Armory's BBR 310. It's a 1911 with a 3.1" barrel, a shortened grip, and a 10 round double stack mag. It is officially a "high capacity" compact 1911.
Glad you are taking care of yourself, I pray all goes well in Dec. I purchased my first firearm this August, and after all my research I felt purchasing a 1911 was the better choice. For a 1911 to be compared to a modern polymer pistol in our current age says so much about JMB design. It’s timeless! Also, glad your back!
I have a Kimber custom 2 that I won at an NRA event. Love that gun. Here in NYS we are also limited to 10 round magazine so it makes sense. However living on Long Island I do not qualify for a CCL.
1911: Might be old but it still gets the job done But I will say to individuals who want to get a 1911 I recommend the government(5”) or Commander (4.25”) sized variations
KILL TO SURVIVE Kimber makes “carry” sized guns like the micro 9. I’m pretty sure they make commanders. But I don’t care for commander or smaller 1911s much. Government for me is the only 1911 really.
I have a couple of the XDMs , Walther ppq , and a Sig P320 but the gun I constantly carry is a Sig tacops in 10mm . I love the 1911 I like the hammer safety and the grip safety I am very comfortable carrying the gun cocked and locked .
That’s why I picked up a CZ 97B, you get 10 rds of 45acp (future federal mag compliance 😏) and you get the reliability of a the SA/DA more modern format. I like my 1911s but gotta really watch the mags and constantly keep them cleaned and lubed, my CZ will run and run. 👍🏻
I have a 1911 made in 1913 I carried until a month ago. I retired it when I got a 1911 made in turkey. I love the weight plus can be used a defense club from the steel.
I bought a Ruger SR1911 in 2014. I shoot most weeks with my brother at the range and run 100 rounds through it. So at least 5 years of 45 weeks a year x 100 rounds. I took off 7 weeks a year for the when one of us busy or sick and couldn't make it. So at least 10k rounds, probably closer to 20k and no breakdowns, still a tight gun. Shows a little wear on top of the barrel chamber when looking through the extractor port. Not perfectly shiny anymore. It's still a nail driver at 25 feet. I also shoot a Colt .357 and Glock 23. Shooting is just fun. The only time my 1911 has malfunctioned is if I let it get real dirty. I didn't clean it for a while just to see how dirty it would get and still shoot. 1911's are heavy, but that's good, very little recoil compared to my Glock. You don't need to spend a ton of money on a 1911, even the lower cost ones normally shoot pretty well.
In WW1 The pilots were using extended magazines for their 1911s that hold 18 rounds plus one. They would also use a brass catch so the brass don't get sucked in the engine.
Benefit of carrying a 1911: when you run out of ammo, you can beat your assailant to death with it. Love those old guns, I actually carry a Springfield for EDC
So here's my rebuttal to most 9mm guys arguments "Do you feel comfortable carrying 9mm standard pressure 115gr. ball , cause i feel perfectly fine carrying 230gr. ball " ( i dont hate 9mm i own multiple )
I like mine under the left arm the best form is camel pack 1911 on the left two mags on the right fits nice over armor and yet still little print from outside the jacket
I feel ya brother. Va says I have one in my left leg smh and 1911 cause they been around for over 100 years and century old badasses lol. Take care of yourself brother and God bless.
btw...happy veterans day and thank you for your service. recently bought a Taurus commander in 9mm to simply get some exp w/1911 platform and I love it! reliability and function are good too. but I am only a weekend plinker and monthly range frequenter, plus carry several diff models, p320, taurus gsc, and now 1911.
Wish u the best brother stay well. Thanks for the video like always. Have a colt combat commander 38 super 70 series and colt government 45 70 series and a couple other ones but them colts i tell u are super nice.
Good you're still taking air. My #1 is my Sig Scorpion 1911 4.2" in 45 and I carry it all the time doesn't bother me a bit. Southpaw strong side in Kydex canted at 20 and riding high hides the butt nicely under under my armpit and provides me a quick draw. No printing. Come up, click safety off and I'm ready to go. Train train train. Semper Fi kid. Welcome back.
I bought that exact same 1911 this summer. I am only 5'8" and it is way too heavy for me to carry. Load that thing with 8 rounds of 45 ACP and I'll about fall over trying to walk. Yes, it shoots awesome.
A 5 inch isn't bad at all, I carried a 6 inch 10mm for a while. A good belt and good holster make all the difference. I'm 5'10" and only 135 lbs, so I'm no big guy.
I've got a 1911 45 since 1986, and i have a Ruder Match Champion (love it) and I have a Springfield 1991 A1 9mm (I would not have a Glock .. I like the PPQ though ... I only shoot targets (they don't fall easily). I have an M1 (love that!!) and some SASS combinations. I do not keep a gun I do not like I have dies for all of them
I just discovered your channel. I recently purchased an auto ordinance 1911. Revolution series Fly Girls model. I also own a Glock 17. I learned some interesting things from this video. Also learned why I may have been having problems with my 1911 from a previous video. Looking forward to your advice to get my gun to run better. I wonder if you would ever get your hands on the auto ordinance 1911. I’d be very interested in your take on it. I’m looking forward to watching the rest of your videos.
I have small hands and 1911 has just perfect ergonomics for me. The first handheld I have ever fired was Beretta PX4 45. And naturally, I was planning to get a Beretta (or SIG) as my first gear. But I could not say NO to a 1911 !!! The first gear I've ever owned was a 1911. And since that day, 1911s are always with me.
I have been shooting since the 70's and own a nice collection of revolvers and semi auto pistols but for some reason had never held or shot a 1911. Last year I bought one and wow, it just seems to fit my hand like it was made for me, it feels really good to hold and shoot so now I own four 1911s. If that seems like over kill I got one in 10 mm for bears and one in 22 because of the current high ammo prices ( got to do some plinking ).
I might be weird but I just like the way they look. I bought a Springfield 1911 about ten years ago. So far less than thirty rounds down the pipe. It just sits on the coffee table and I handle it while watching tv. Really seems like a nice gun though!
Hell yeah! Welcome back, Matt. VA sucks, bro but I hope you get it all worked out. I have an RIA 1911GI that I did some light customizing to & I love it. 1911 for life. The Prophet John Browning spake & behold... THE pistol arose. There is something sooo nice about oiling my pistol every week.
Good video What self defense ammo do you carry in the Rock? I use Winchester white box 230 grain hollows they run good in my Rock. Since buying my Rock I have added a couple of more 1911's to the collection both 9mm. I'm looking for 45 acp Commander to finish the collection. Hands down I like the 1911 over my plastic guns, and my edc is the DW Vigil cco 9mm.
Welcome back, Matt. I hope your health gets/stays better. I will pray for it. A 1911 makes me look like a better shot than I really am. I guess because of weight and trigger. Love steel pistols and revolvers.
I have a red and black 1911 R1, and i just bought a SIG P226 Mk25 brand new. love them both, even though i haven't gotten to try the SIG out much. Old vs new doesn't matter to me.

You pointed out causes of malfunction with the 1911 and I think the only one if you can call it a malfunction is having the right magazine. I've found that Wilson Combat mags work well with my Kimber, however, they are a bit pricey.
I love me a 45 so I got myself a glock 30sf it fails to go into battery way to often I was very disappointed . On the other hand just 2 weeks ago I bought a kimber stainless 2 and it runs flawlessly so far no issues at all
Due to the thinness of the 1911 it conceals very well as you said, I carry it appendix almost everyday. The only 9mm I carry is my Springfield xdm elite, and that’s only because it holds 22 rounds. I wouldn’t feel comfortable with carrying a 9mm that holds less than 15 rounds since I’ve seen countless videos of people being shot with 9mm and still not go down after many rounds to the torso. Not saying it’s not effective, but I also know that my .45 hollow points expand to 1 inch and are sure to put someone down, quick.
Matt ,i can understand the swelling/leg problems you have., For i have it to. My is due to bad arteries and veins . As for the 45acp 1911 over the Glock 17 9mm, If all you have is FMJ you have a better chance of stopping someone then 9mm FMJ. MY 1911 is the ATI Mil spec Govt in 45acp and i am happy with it.
I got an ATI 1911. The only problem I have are hollow points, for some reason they keep getting stuck on the feed ramp. Then again, the 1911 was never intended to fire hollow points. Other than that, I've never had a problem.
@@jerryhagel2466 I’ve always like WWB. The only issue with that brand is it is absolutely filthy when you run it, but there are a couple brands like that. Anymore, I’ll run whatever I can get my hands on...

I’m on my second 1911 and ive always been in love with em!!! I’d trust a 1911 any day over any other pistol really.sounds stupid but I love em so much I got 1911 tatted on me in my army days at fort eustis lol
Glad to hear that you're doing ok Devil Dog, get well and God Bless 🙏
If you want more capacity, go with a 2011. Next handgun I was considering is the RIA GI standard FS HC (rock island armory government issue standard full sized high capacity), which is a full sized 1911 just like the one you showed in the video except it uses double stack magazines. MSRP was $608 I think, at least last I checked. Gives 14+1 of .45 acp.
Glad to see you back and doing well.stay well and good luck with the va.
I’ll be praying for you brother, for your legs and also for your family. You are a great dad!! Keep up the great videos! Love my rock island armory 1911 btw
1911...My all time favorite hands down. Thank you and praying for your health.
My first pistol I bought in 1987 was a Colt Officer model 1911 with a 3.5 inch barrel. I've been hooked ever since.
I also have the same and love it. It was my first and couldn't be happier it shoots as good any high dollar 1911.
@Oliver Pong well, it must be nice to be that wealthy and im sure if i was in ur position i would act like it too..
I just got my RIA 1911 FS in .45acp, works great out of the box!
Finally got a para ordinance Executive Carry 1911. Can’t wait to get to the range.
A Highpoint 45 wins at the being the [Best club contest] 👌lol... and I'm the only Highpoint fan in the world 🌎 🙃...from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 🤠
in Arizona we do not have magazine restrictions but i still carry 1 of my many 1911s 99% of the time and i carry 365 days a year. i trust my life and the lives of my 4 kids and my wife on the 1911s i carry
Glad to hear you are doing better. Excellent logical presentation. Thank you.
1911: Might be old but it still gets the job done
But I will say to individuals who want to get a 1911 I recommend the government(5”) or Commander (4.25”) sized variations
*cries in kimber
salvador hernandez what’s wrong with Kimber?
@@614XJ pretty sure there is no 4.25 inch barrels for the kimbers
KILL TO SURVIVE Kimber makes “carry” sized guns like the micro 9. I’m pretty sure they make commanders. But I don’t care for commander or smaller 1911s much. Government for me is the only 1911 really.
@@614XJ What "Kill to Survive" was being coy about is that Kimbers are not 4.25" but ony 4".
Glad you are back and take care of those health issues.
So here's my rebuttal to most 9mm guys arguments
"Do you feel comfortable carrying 9mm standard pressure 115gr. ball , cause i feel perfectly fine carrying 230gr. ball "
( i dont hate 9mm i own multiple )
It's nice having a decent barrel length on a gun thin enough for easy concealment. AIWB 10mm Gov't is a great package (no pun intended).
I’m a youngster in the gun world 22 but I still carry a 1911 over the wonder 9s my friends carry and I love it
Good stuff Matt! I have a Ruger 1911, by far the most accurate pistol I own. Thanks!
I also own a Ruger SR1911 and Its name is Roxanne. Were in love 😍
Good to see you again Matt
I decided to diversify my handgun ownership. I have a Kimber, Springfield, Smith and Wesson-all three 1911s in 45
Lol
Gave my Glocks to my sons
Greatest fighting handgun ever designed. The gold standard of pistols.
Good to have you back. Get well my friend.
I have 2 1911's. I have a Citadel and a SDS. Never had a issue with either one.
For me it's revolver as #1, but I do have a warm spot for the 1911.
Dirty Harry
🌟
@@emello4you
Dirty Harry wasn't cool enough to carry a .45.
@@joelspringman7748 So he switched to a 44 auto magnum instead.
@@emello4you
Not cool.
Wish u the best brother stay well. Thanks for the video like always. Have a colt combat commander 38 super 70 series and colt government 45 70 series and a couple other ones but them colts i tell u are super nice.
Great breakdown Sir! I have 4 Glocks (3 9mm, 1 .45acp) & 1 1911 Colt Combat Elite. I really like my Glocks, but I love my 1911.
Welcome Back and Good Luck.
prayers with you my friend, and great video
Glad your back ..
Praying for Good Health Bro 🙏
Thank you
I have no idea who you are and your video popped up randomly on my feed. Needless to say I really liked your video and I am now subscribing to you.
@@cannonfbailey anything bigger than a 22cal is most comfortable to carry in a shoulder holster, for E.D.C....from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 🤠
I do not keep a gun I do not like I have dies for all of them
Happy birthday brother ! Keep the videos coming 👍🏻
Great to see you back and hopefully healthy. I love the 1911 platform and you're right in what you said. Can't wait for the next video.
Shot my RIA for the first time today,I haven't shot a pistol in about 7 years .I would not own any thing else great gun shoots very well.
I carry Bul Armory Israeli 1911.45 ACP as my EDC. I have several other .45 versions of pistols. But the .45/1911 is KING
Glad you're doing well
I have small hands and 1911 has just perfect ergonomics for me.
Handed my first 1911 at MP SCHOOL ,US ARMY,1975..STILL MY GO TO.
Glad to see your doing ok.
Good video
What self defense ammo do you carry in the Rock? I use Winchester white box 230 grain hollows they run good in my Rock.
Since buying my Rock I have added a couple of more 1911's to the collection both 9mm. I'm looking for 45 acp Commander to finish the collection. Hands down I like the 1911 over my plastic guns, and my edc is the DW Vigil cco 9mm.
I love my 5-inch Kimber 4 lb trigger with Wilson Combat mags never had any issues
I love my RIA 1911a1 fs. The trigger is the best on any 1911. Even the cheapest 1911.
Welcome back, Matt. I hope your health gets/stays better. I will pray for it. A 1911 makes me look like a better shot than I really am. I guess because of weight and trigger. Love steel pistols and revolvers.
Glad to see you back, Matt! Even tho YT DIDN'T notify me of the video drop! 🙄 Hope you're doing Well brother! God Bless! ✌🏼
My first firearm is a 1911. Polymer guns feel like toys in comparison. Also in Commiefornia, I'm limited to 10 rounds anyway.
That is sucky, that you guys are still limited to ten rounds! I'm sorry to hear that.
@@joelspringman7748 sucky=unconstitutional....from Wyoming USA 🇺🇸 🤠
Good to have you back Matt heal brother, i love that 1911.
I have two ATIs. About $300 per. One 4.25", bobbed hammer, the other a 5" GI. They both hate jhp. Run 230 ball all day long.
They tend to run better when you use JHP rounds that have a more rounded tip, or have polymer filled tips.
Try Winchester white box 230 grain JHP they run good in my Rock. Although I don't believe it to be the best ammo?
@@jerryhagel2466 I’ve always like WWB. The only issue with that brand is it is absolutely filthy when you run it, but there are a couple brands like that. Anymore, I’ll run whatever I can get my hands on...
You should be running Underwood ExtremeDefence.2-3 inch permanent cavity, and feeds all day long in my Wilson Combat mags in my Kimber.
I have 1911 FS and I love it
