I was 9 the first time I dislocated my knee. It stayed out of place for 6 hours. I’ve since dislocated both over 100 times, but my doctor taught me how to reduce it myself after the first time, so it never stayed out of place for long. The pain is excruciating, and to look down and see your mangled leg is really quite traumatizing. It’s actually one of the reasons why I decided to become a doctor; my orthopedic surgeon changed my life when he corrected the underlying problem that was causing the dislocations!

He makes a good point about Mahomes hyperflexabile ligaments being a risk factor for dislocating it again. Odd because the laxity of his ligaments prevented any major damage in this case but can cause it to pop out in future. Also, if you watch his throws, his hyperflexible ligaments probably exist in his upper extremity and shoulder giving him the ability to make some of the throws he does at such bizarre angles.
