Great edit James, love all the history and details you include. Those bridge crossings look insane!!!. I am not much for gavel riding but this looked like an amazing adventure, thanks for sharing.
Glad you enjoyed it! The trestles were my favourite part as well! It's worth checking out Myra canyon even for a walk if you're ever in the Kelowna BC area.
If anyone is riding this on a gravel bike, you are going to want more than 40c tires. I did it on 35c tires and I got rattled like crazy. The section from the last trestle to little tunnel is pretty rough. Huge pot holes, washboard, bed rock poking through the road surface. Carbon XC mtb is probably the ideal bike.
Sad to see the Skiing videos over, but it is nice to see the ride on the KVR! Good memories. Looks like you had a blast! Keep up the good videos! Try going the other way on the KVR towards Midway and Christina Lake.
I rode the KVR from Penticton all the way to downtown Kelowna on my rigid cyclocross. The pot holes at Chute Lake rattled my brain. (Met you on big red express). Loving the videos.
Sick new video James! Ever since I started watching your videos, I’ve realized that’s the content (especially for skiing) that I’ve been looking for for a very long time. Cheers dude. Ps: Terrain park videos in Whistler Blackbomb would be mint!
@@riseandalpine Heyo, why wait till next year. I can lend you a bike to ride Whistler Bike Park in as long as I can have some spicy hot sauce as payment
Hey did you do a loop? Or just turn around and head back? How did you get back to where you parked? Can't seem to find information on how to coordinate a day ride anywhere.
We were dropped off by a company called Hoodoo adventures. Park at their location in Penticton and they drive you to the trail head so you can finish back at your vehicle in Penticton.
This is all part of the Trans Canada Trail as well. As a local to the area, I've used the KVR as an alternate route to Kelowna a few times, as well as using it to access areas for hunting in the spring/fall. The Adra tunnel has been closed to through traffic for over 2 decades, if not longer. If you want to carry on the ride, the KVR will also take you on the other side of the valley up to Summerland, through and behind and over to Princeton.
Wow! Thanks for sharing the additional info Mike. Did you drive the TCT to kelowna or cycle? I'll have to do some exploring and ride it further. What is your favourite section?
@@riseandalpine I live in the area, so to be perfectly honest, I don't spend a lot of time on that trail. Most of my time is spent seeing it while out hunting!! I suppose you could say I take the fact that it's so readily accessible for granted. But I do drive the section from Chute Lake down into Kelowna via the Gillard FSR and I have to say, the view from the section through Okanagan Mountain Park is pretty amazing!!
OMG you do own a bike! Bike Park Laps with your creative editing skills is a match waiting to happen! Kinda hard in this video to hold the selfie stick compared to when skiing, I imagine.
I just loved the way you discribe that hieroglyph (no sure of the spelling) with discretion. When did you do this ride ? How long ? Where did you park your truck ? Great video. You are amazing.
😂 😂 😂 😂 We did this ride on about May 20th I believe. It took us about 9 hours but we stopped lots and spent about an hour having lunch in the middle. We parked the truck in Penticton and hired a shuttle van to drive us to Myra Canyon! It's so worth it!
Thanks for sharing. I'm from Australia but will be visiting Kelowna in late May 2023. Is it possible to cycle from Kelowna to KVRT in Myra Canyon or would I need to drive to Myra Canyon and cycle from there? Thanks for your help on this.
You can totally cycle from Kelowna but you would be tacking on a significant amount of distance and elevation! Most people drive to Myra, but if you like a challenge then I would say go for it!
It looks like the ride to Penticton was downhill or flat most of the way. What would the return trip be like? 70 km uphill does not sound like a walk in the park.
@@tombiggi1024 it's relentlessly uphill, albeit not very steep. The issue is that much of the track between Chute Lake and Naramata is pretty sandy, which would be a drag to slog through uphill.
Hey Tom! We parked the car in Penticton and took a shuttle with Hoodo Adventures to the start of Myra Canyon. Since Gas was so expensive it didn't make sense to bring two cars. If you check out the link in the description I've written a guide on the ride which includes maps!! Let me know if you have any other questions.
I'm actually not sure. I don't think they are allowed on some of the portions of trail, but maybe for half of it they might be where it connects to the FSR's
quads and dirt bikes use the trail regularly, but they are not permitted in the Myra Canyon (trestles and tunnels) section and there are a couple of blockages near Hydraulic Lake.

That's an amazing tip! It would definitely be deadly shaky on the wrong bike.
🎶🎵 Little ditty 'bout Jackie and Dan... 🎵🎶
Also, the big tunnel had me thinking "Chester Copperpot".
Love that tune!

I'll give that section a try next time I'm in the interior!
Would be fun to bikepack the whole KVR at some point.

Hey Brian!!
I can't imagine sending it through those potholes without front suspension LOL.
6:54 Great to meet you today James. Glad we could get through the tunnel today! Your gf is a champ!
Wicked meeting you too Paul! Thanks for lighting the way through the tunnel. Hopefully you ride today went awesome.

The Summerland to Princeton leg is one of my favorites. Following trout creak, there's some great campsites along the way.

I Can Smell Winter Already By Watching Your Videos …..Eventhough is HOT AS HELL here in Miami , LOL

After such a long ride, is there a public transport that brings people back to Kelowna?

Come to New Zealand and do the Otago rail trail 😁
Holy!! The Otago trail looks SICK!

I only did it one way downhill and left the car in Penticton. The ride back would be super deadly!
Uphill??? On a rail trail which is a max grade of 3% ... seriously??
@@tombiggi1024 it's relentlessly uphill, albeit not very steep. The issue is that much of the track between Chute Lake and Naramata is pretty sandy, which would be a drag to slog through uphill.
Actually the Trail goes all the way from Hope to Castlegar, Penticton is only 1/2 way.
Thx for the clarification!
How did you get from Kelowna to Myra Canyon start ... did you cycle, use your own SAG or take a shuttle??? Do you have a route of your ride to share?
