    Hustling has nothing to do with race or age. We pay to see the players try as hard as they can, and our money pays them to do that. It's not fun to watch players loafing. They are the elite; they should act like it.

    Carlton Fisk simply spoke his mind. In 1972 as a rookie he called out Red Sox veterans on their lack of leadership, namely Carl Yastrzemski and Reggie Smith. In 1990 a 42 year old, twenty year veteran sees a guy who has accomplished very little in the majors what he saw as disrespecting the game. Some of you call this racist. In all of sports Deion's actions would not be tolerated by veterans. Carlton Fisk didn't seem to have problems with the hundreds of other players who came to the plate before or after Deion.

When Dick Williams took over the Red Sox in 1967, they had a lot of talent, but no discipline or conditioning. Williams ran spring training like boot camp, and taught the Red Sox how to play like a National League team. They had the youngest team in sports, but won the best pennant race in history. (They lost to a far better Cardinals team in seven games.) Williams admitted, "The players hated me, but none of them returned their World Series checks."

      Deion was terrible in run support. I was a 49ers fan then. He is one of the best man-to-man corners in NFL history. He was a true shutdown corner. As such he's not supposed to get tackles because teams are throwing away from him.
      Also that 49ers defense had 8 other players who went to a Pro Bowl. Tim McDonald and Ken Norton Jr got most of the tackles.
      I don't think Deion would be nearly as good today with the size of receivers. He struggled with Michael Irvin who is still smaller than a lot of receivers today.

    Most true fans love and respect the game of baseball. Since our youth playing Little League, Pony League, Babe Ruth we had a team we were passionate about and a select few players on those teams we looked up to rspecially and even emulated. Sanders had "no class" on the diamond or the gridiron! He was a gifted athleted for sure. No arguement there! The guys who represented and played baseball like "professionals " should ...
    Derek Jeter, Tony Gwynn, Ken Griffey jr., Cal Ripken, Bob Gibson, Willie Mays, Hank Aaron, Mike Schmidt, Nolan Ryan, Robin Yount, Al Kaline, Carlton Fisk, Joe Morgan, Ichiro Suzuki and so many others ..... jerks, and I mean jerks, like Sanders are bad for the game, and poor examples for our youth.

      Jashan Tangle No offense, but with black people, when they don't get anything there own way, it's always because they're black. That's what I have learned from my experiences with them. You see it in Ferguson, Mo. They always blame others instead of looking at themselves. That is how they are perceived, not just by whites, but by all races. It's a shame because the good blacks, which represents perhaps 95% of the whole black population, are the ones that suffer from it. Deon Sanders is a jerk.

    • @mizofan
      @mizofan 9 лет назад +7

      Jashan Tangle I'm white. This typical "black chip on the shoulder" nonsense is just white delusion to justify and play down ongoing inequality. The facts of racist oppression are undeniable across a whole range of measures: wealth, housing, life expectancy, education, health care, and at every stage of the criminal justice system. If we whites were suddenly in the situation black people are expected to accept uncomplainingly, the collective chip on the shoulder would be massive. Most of us whites are in denial, lack self awareness and honesty and don't want to recognise our faults. Have a happy day :)

    • @mizofan
      @mizofan 9 лет назад +2

      Jashan Tangle Sorry, I think there seems to be a misunderstanding. I'm saying it's white people- thinking black people just like to moan and blame racism for everything- who are talking nonsense. I'm saying black people do suffer from terrible racism and we white people are not being honest with ourselves if we deny or try to excuse that and instead want to criticise the people we oppress. Yes, white people have had a terrible history of slaughter. Yes, precisely we should look at ourselves. I was wishing you well, and making a statement in support of you, and against racists comments here. Even though I have not experienced that racism, and i'm certainly no expert, I am aware of and deeply regret many awful things white people have done.

    • @mizofan
      @mizofan 9 лет назад

      I put "black chip on the shoulder" in inverted comments not because I think it's real but because it's something that's said- and wrongly. Deion should've vowed to run on Fisk every time he got on base, from there on. "You want me to run? Okay, I'll run"

      But deion sanders like in every other facet of the game of baseball sucked at base-stealing.

      That would have necessitated him actually getting on base he had no business being on that team. Speaks to how shit the Yankees were in 1990, he was batting like .160

      Would have liked to see a collision at the plate. “Clean up on aisle 4, repeat clean up on aisle 4”.

      Better baseball player than he is a person. Sanders should have been suspended for dumping water on McCarver. Talk about a chicken stuff move.

      He was good but sold himself short. Baseball is more about skill than tools compared to football. It would be difficult to play when your playing two sports anyway but it takes mental focus and you're not totally focused if your worried about making dollar signs. I agree with Fisk because Deion is selling himself short and that's how he's cheating the game by cheating himself. You can showoff in my opinion but do something then celebrate. Deion is celebrating before the play starts.

    Can you imagine if MLB was like the NFL, after every home run the whole team would run out of the dugout and pose at home plate. After every out all the fielders would have to perform some celebratory ritual.

    Fisk ignored me in 1975 in Cleveland before a game. I was only 3 years old and I asked him if he knew where I could get a bag of barbeque chips. He acted like he didn't hear me. Then the ushers ejected me.

      I agree with you on the old school vs new school. HOWEVER, Deion would have seriously hurt Carlton in a fight - no doubt about that.
