Hi!
My name is Justin and I have my managed my family's business (S&K Greenhouse) for the last 10 years! It is a local garden center in Shelby, NC that my family started around 25 years ago.
We have a strong desire to discuss and teach gardening to the online community and welcome anyone who wants to learn. Though we have been involved in the plant world for decades we have found that there is always something to learn when it comes to gardening.
Whether you are a master gardener or just starting out this channel is for you. Thank you so much for taking the time to watch our videos!

Got to love the enthusiasm of you americans with such matters. 😅
I always feel excited and happy after viewing your videos. Love the energy and the information. You killing it man! Cheers!!
Thank you Billy! Always appreciate your support! 😄
Thanks for the info. I’m not used to planting my shrubs in pots, so your demonstration was useful.
Greeting's from Ireland, I have four shrubs in pots in the front garden two hebe's and two hardy fuschia's they all flower every summer come rain or shine. I use vine weevil nematode's every autumn to attack the grubs.
Just in the nick of time... I decided to transfer Boxwoods from the landscape to containers. I’ll be mixing in pine bark conditioner for better drainage. You rock, Justin!
Thank you for showing different shrub species and putting their names in the transcript!❤ I love the Gulf Stream Nandima and would have never heard about except for your channel. So informative. Keep up the good work Justin!!!🥰
Justin, You crack me up with your moves!! You are a pleasure to watch and very informative !! 😀
Thanks about the info of bark mixed in and the reminder to use Osmocote.🌸
I’m thinking of putting some Aborvitaes in some 24” pots. I want to keep pruning them to keep them at 7ft tall. Zone 5
I love shrubs and perennials in containers. It's fun to make different groupings of containers on my patio. Thanks for all the info and inspiration you share on your channel.
Me too!
2 zones would be better than 1 zone otherwise you need to bring it in..I've lost a couple by not bringing them in. soil conditioner is a MUST!
I love your videos. Great info and look forward to more of them because I have become a plant person!
That is awesome!!! Thank you so much!
🌲I WISH I was local. I would love to shop at your nursery!🌳🍂🏵
Another great informative video Justin - Thank you.
Perfect timing, Justin! I emptied two of my pots yesterday and have several more that need to be changed out. I’m putting most of the plants I had in them in the landscape but have been thinking shrubs as replacements. Thanks for the pro tips! Soil conditioner is now on my shopping list! ~Cassandra Senter, Zone 9A
Yes! I always use it when I plant trees or shrubs, but didn't think about it for a pot! Great idea for sure!
Love your videos! I always learn something new. Thanks.
We love your videos! I always learn a lot, and I love your presentation!😊
I wish I could shop there also. I may need to take a road trip!
Very helpful video, plus I enjoy your enthusiasm for your subject matter--plants!
You’re great! Love watching!
These were awesome tips! Thank you!
Super great info for all us plant people!
😁
Love your videos !!! so encouraging, I was almost ready to transition fake shrubs for my front, cause of the deer in my neighborhood
You spelled it out for us, thank you! I made the mistake of planting a gallon camellia japonica in a giant planter. I checked it after a heavy rainfall and it was waterlogged and the camellia ended up with root rot. I was so bummed.
Hello my friend. Great job! Thanks for sharing this video! Always believe in yourself and keep doing what you love, good luck!🌿
Love all you tips.. 👍🏽
Love this. Very thorough..
Thank you for watching! 🙂
Thank you 😊
Hi from the Sunshine Coast Qld, Australia 😃🌻🌴🌳🐬 Thank you for another informative video video 😀I only recently found your wonderful channel.
Woah Australia! Hello! Thanks for watching! ❤
Zone 5b feeling jealous of you zones who can grow Nandina!!
I love Justin. He is amazing and yes, I am a plant person. Big time.
Beautiful 😍✨️
My biggest challenge with growing shrubs in containers is making sure that I don't kill them by either over-watering or under-watering.
I put a brick, and cut up pool noodles in the bottom first then fill with my plants. Stays put, good drainage
How often your repotted? And how big the container? Thank you and I love your videos 😊
I have green thumb, fingers arms.lol. Love these videos!!
Tips to grow shrubs in container in zone 3 please and thank u
Is a side hole good like wicking to hold water in my extreme heat climate or should there be bottom holes and how many? I'm putting up weigela and Japanese bayberry seperate with a petite knockout rose with the Barberry.. for my patio garden
What is a good size planter for a mature Anna’s magic ball? Thanks
Thank you!
QUESTION:
Do you have the name of the low profile evergreen that is used in planters, has a blue-green color, grows to hang over the edge and is VERY PRICKLY to touch?
Decades ago I visited a pool (zone 9a) that had this beautiful, low profile, evergreen in a retaining planter. Dumb place for the plant ; at a pool edge scratching up bare legs.
TODAY I see a need for it in my yard. Wondered if you might know suggestions.
I enjoy your videos. They are fun and so helpful. Local nurseries where I am lie to you for the sale or outright act put-out that they are asked questions. H
💪✨
Tip 3.b Always use conical pots, avoid straight pots and never pots with a bulge in the middle because it’s nigh on impossible to get the plant out when you want to pot up.
Good point! Too late for me!
💚👌🏽👍🏽🌿
I was all set to find the Gulf Stream Nandina until I read that it is highly toxic to animals. I'll need to keep searching, wish more people would note about safe for pets in the descriptions or talking about plants.
Reasons You Don't Want Nandina in Your Yard
Nandina is considered an invasive species in the United States. ...
The berries can be toxic to birds and pets. ...
Nandina offers few local ecosystem benefits. ...
There are better native plant options. ...
Once you have Nandina, it is hard to get rid of it!
No it is not. Nandinas mostly have shallow roots. Quite drought resistant. In extreme heat I did water them. I had river rock at the base which acted like a fertilizer so the plants did extremely well. I had a few varieties and enjoyed them. The birds know not to eat the berries which are wonderful in the winter time. I think every garden should try one out two to see how they look and perform. I am in a new home and not using them now as many neighbors already have in their landscape. I am going for a more classic boxwood, evergreen look. But I sure did enjoy my heavenly bamboo nandina’s which I had at the kitchen window. Enjoyed the birds nesting in the branches and the red berries in winter. Even a great plant for a large container like he showed in this video. My plants were mostly in corners where children could not get too.
It’s enough to show us around your garden 🪴
Designed very good 👍
