Greetings Andy, Enjoyed the video and I have always liked the idea of a campaign. What comes to mind is building several war-bands, then putting them into a larger army. Think it can be very colorful. Also, can still use them as vanguard of course, if this makes sense. Am going to pick up the book, still leaning towards the Northern alliance, to start. Also thinking about using my old Warhammer Battles minis. Thank you for sharing. ~ Will
Hey Will, I know exactly what you mean and I think this campaign system will let you do just that. You start with your 400 pt Company and then can select your best 200 pts of Warband for that particular mission. Northern Alliance look amazing so great choice.
PRoblem with the campaign systems is things usually get horribly imbalanced to where the game is no longer fun for the person who's winning easily or the person that no longer stands a chance.
That’s where this system is really interesting. You’re both still limited to 200 points of Warband no matter how much more experienced they become or what weapons your purchase so points wise you’re still balanced and then if one side has more Ranked up models then the other side gets Underdog bonus Power Dice and extra points to spend on one more model to add to their Warband in addition to the 200 points. I think it handles the imbalance really well. Time will tell though with many more people playing.
I agree, but there is underdog help here. Might not be enough if someone is way ahead but it should help. I think if you draw as underdog that should be considered a win also.
Hi Michael, I mentioned it but not in any detail. There’s a Casualty Tabke which has 15 possible outcomes from Dead to Broken Bones (-1 to wound stat) to Survives Against the Odds (model misses next game but makes full recovery and gains 2 XP). It really adds to the between games narrative.
There’s also bonuses you get through your troops ranking up too as they gain XP and also an Exploration Result chart with 26 possibilities when you loot the battlefield after the battle is done.
@@BlackJackLegacy Excellent! Some of the most memorable moments of past games have come from the 'Exploration Phase' of various games! I am even more excited for this now!
I just bought into Kings of War Vanguard while looking for a generic-ish fantasy skirmish game. How would you compare the Campaign system of Vanguard to Mordheim? I didn't like Mordheim as you spent more time managing your band than actually playing it, plus its rules were too simple, watered down WHFB.
Yes you certainly can. There’s a section at the back of the book explaining just how you can do this and every scenario has a “Kings if War Hook” that you can take across to its bigger brother.
Great info, really enjoying these videos. I appreciate the work you're putting into these Andy. Looking forward to tomorrow!
Hey thanks for supporting my efforts by watching and commenting. Its hard work but I'm loving it :)
In mordhime and frost grave people started making their own scenarios. Dose this look like it would work as well for vanguard?
Yeah I think that will work really well. The 12 included are great but there'll always be room for the communities great ideas too.
Oooo, forward special operations camp. Sounds great ☺
Under the cloak of darkness :)
Great vid Andy, this system sounds very intuitive and fun. :>)
Thanks Peter. Its worth a try - the free rules go live 8th October!

That’s an interesting addition. Worth trying out.
Maybe I missed it but is there an injury chart or ability chart that gives models a negative or a bonus in future games?

@@BlackJackLegacy Awesome! It's little touches like this that really deliver a more characterful experience in skirmish games. Thanks!

Glad I can give you a little more flavour before you receive your stuff.

I never played Mordheim so sorry I cant help you on this one.
Cool stuff dude
Cheers mate. Appreciate you watching :)
If you play the campaign, can you still link the Vanguard games to KoW battles?

BlackJack Legacy EXCELLENT. Counting the days till the KS comes.
