True, it's not even very curvy, it looks very similar to the thin body they tend to use imho. It's more as if the ones criticizing despise people who don't have a model body
Something that I want to say is, I love how Barbie is being diverse. That being said, their quality and how they manufacture is terrible. As with many companies, they manufacture in China. This means that thousands of workers, men, women, and children are being overworked and underpaid. This is something I hate: companies trying to be all about 'feminism' when thousands of women aren't getting fair wages. I just want to say, we need to be more mindful about what we consume. (Also, it isn't just Mattel doing this. I'm sure MGA, Moose, Just Play, etc. are doing this too).
"Barbie is like a piece of clay you can mold it into whatever you want to, give it personality, life, thought, and much more with your imagination of course. Barbie is who you want her to be. You can be anything."
I always love that barbie tried and listen to fans. People can criticize barbie and they're entitled to their opinions but as least barbie tries to show and add diversity unlike other companies who say they will but never do or just ignore the consumers/fans.
i absolutely adore the look today!!!! that Barbie extra you matched with and the girl with the multicolored hair as well are my two faves so far! I do wish they had ankle joints tho lmao. I love when you do in-depth history vids like this, I know it must be tons of work, but I love it as a long-time follower of these dolls and their evolutions! Barbie Fashionistas and MTM dolls got me back into the Barbie world and honestly, I hope they keep moving the direction they seem to be going!
I really just wanna go back to those days and miss being younger 😭😭😭😭 I remember having a lot of Barbies when I was younger. I’ve been knew that Barbie and Ken broke up because I saw at the end of the Cali Girl commercial and seen a glimpse of Blaine. They did went to school together at International High. I prefer the 2000 Barbies, lol the only way to go back for now. So ready for the time travel to come it’s way.
Loved the BMR and now the Barbie Extra line .Once Mattel realizes kids want more fashionable dolls, blind packs, and articulation maybe kids will choose Barbie over LOL and Rainbow High type dolls.
This video was amazing! The cuts to old footage, the history (and gossip) of the toy line?! I loved it. I learned tons. So grateful you put this together... Great job!
Ya, I'm not feeling those Pixel eyes lol😅I think that these dolls definitely have inspiration from the LOL OMG Dolls, like the boots of one of them look exactly like Swag's, the one you cosplayed as (Btw you look great🤩🤩🤩) definitely looks like candylicious, so on and so forth...Glad they have representation for the lgbt community and different races, along with disabilities, so kudos to them for that! I'm just waiting for lol omg to do that, like Bratz has but I really want them to confirm that busy and speedster are a couple or something, but baby steps lol. I love that they feature boys in the commercials as well, as I am a boy #representation 😋😋❤
I love the fact that they came out with barbies with different body types, and eventually ones like the prosthetic leg, wheelchair, vitiligo! There is so much more diversity then there was when I was a kid. I remember being excited when they came out with the new dolls. Mattel is definitely taking the right steps to being more inclusive, tho there is still a lot more to go for full inclusiveness. I haven't seen the Extra dolls until now, but I think they look rad af and would totally buy them.
Amazing video. I am a Barbie girl through and through. I am so grateful for other small doll companies who made diverse dolls with different hair textures like Malaville and who made dolls with different body styles like Lammily because they are why Mattel is diverse now. I love your cosplay look. So gorgeous!!! I love MGA but totally get that some parents want a more PG fashion doll and that's what Barbie EXTRA can offer. Also I wonder if MGA found out about the Barbie EXTRA launch then made their EXTRA music video before the release. I mean it is so on the nose! BUT even if Mattel is blatantly ripping off OMG... I'm happy for the healthy competition. Makes Barbie more fun and lets be real MGA has nothing to worry about. They are SO innovative! Thanks for this very detailed video. Props to Mattel for keeping Barbie relevant all these years.
SOLD! SOLD! SOLD! You totally sold me on these dolls babes! Has a long time Barbie collector, fan and support this video made me excited for Barbie’s new era 👱🏾♀️ Thank you for this! 💗🌈
That's fun to see my coworker Henry, the face painter. He was the face painter for the Sharpay doll on the High School Musical line. I had to explain to him how I needed a 'sideways' glance for Sharpay's eyes to reinforce her shifty personality.
Honestly, I don't get why people have to be so criticizing about the barbie EXTRA line, I think it's a nice, pretty line of dolls that resemble the influencers we have today. They wear popular and trendy fashions, sport cool makeup, and have different types of skin tones and body types. Like seriously, I don't get the hate, it's a doll? I bet people would still criticize barbie if they made a more realistic kind of doll that represents how everyone has been feeling this year. When I was a kid I never remember thinking about the body type or skin color the doll had, I simply wanted to be creative and style the doll in various fashions and come up with stories for them to play out in.
Obviously it’s amazing that Barbie is making more realistic body types, but I can’t stand when people say that thin dolls like Barbie are the reason that girls have body issues. Male toys often have giant muscles yet you don’t see young boys stressing out about having that body. There’s obviously other factors that cause these issues, so people need to stop using Barbie as a scapegoat.
agreed. I played with Barbie as most girls did and never even thought about wanting to look like her, i only wanted all her stuff. Children are very much capable of recognizing that a doll is a toy and not meant to be realistic. They are, after all, merely young not stupid. If anything causes unrealistic body expectations it is all the photoshopped models in ads and instagram influencers, because with them it is actually difficult to distinguish between what is real and fake.
I'm pretty impressed by the quality of the Barbie vlogs, I wasn't expecting a fashion doll brand to have discussions like that. I know more children's media, is blatantly discussing it instead of trying to subtly show it, so it's an overall trend and not something only done by Barbie. But it's nice to see the effort put into content like that. Media is not the end all for children's development, but it does play a role. I am absolutely in love with the Extras line! The fashion that I've seen coming out for modern fashion dolls, in general, is so fantastic. I really wish some of the Fashion dolls brands would release a matching outfit for the dolls, like American Doll. It's probably out of scope, but can you imagine being just able to purchase some of those jackets in an adult size?
I think barbie is trying to go with what's trendy and not just reliable stuff anymore, because of the competition and nothing else. They are shaking in their boots and know if they don't step it up they might be forgotten. Lol omg and Rainbow hight are giving Barbie a run for her money...
I just want to say a big thank you! I started watching your videos over lockdown and now I'm just finishing my first term at university, I'm focusing my first visual essay (aka just a more boring youtube video haha) on fashion dolls as a collector item! Your videos have been such an inspiration in rekindling my love for fashion dolls and also so helpful in teaching me new things about the dolls I love! Thank you so much!! 💜
As a life long Barbie collector I think you did a great job ;-) Love your channel and I appreciate how much research and effort you put into your video's. Keep up the good work.
I wish Mattel would make collector dolls of the old Barbie movie characters. As is clearly demonstrated by the popularity of reboots, nostalgia sells! I would buy the heck out of a Barbie Swan Lake or Princess and the Pauper collector doll.
Honestly, I am in love with the Barbie Extra dolls. I so wish that I would have enough courage to ask my mom if I could buy one, but I'm way too scared to ask because at my day and age, it isnt really accepted for me to have one. :(
Just came here to say I used to be exactly like you, but now than I've moved out for university I can buy whatever I want as long as I follow my budget. Last year I bought a stuffed baby deer and it's been my favorite belonging since then 💕 Sooner or later you'll also be able to buy things for yourself, be patient! Sending love 💓
Awesome history of Barbie, and cool do see all the different changes that have happened over the years. It's great they have become more inclusive and am looking forward to seeing more dolls released in the Barbie Extra series with more attention to detail on the outfits. Love your video 😍💗
Barbie is having an identity crisis rn... I think Mattel needs to make a separate line specifically for younger play-oriented consumers and one for older collectors. Barbie isnt an MGA doll, this Extra line just isn’t BARBIE! I like the general vibe (although it’s not perfect) of the BarbieStyle insta... Chic, simple, fun older, COOL, successful career woman Barbie!
I love the new line of diverse dolls and honestly wish I was young again to make stories for each doll and play with my sister all over again lol I would totally collect them
Clawdeena, thank you for such an informative and interesting video about Barbie! I've played with Barbie since the early 1970's (yes, I'm old) and it was really nice to see the early Barbie faces again! Plus I learned things I hadn't heard before, such as the story that Barbie and Ken broke up but are back together now. In a way it's kind of creepy that Ken is named after the real Barbie's brother! I do love any Barbie that is articulated, stiff legged and armed dolls have very little playability to me, but I'm not sure the Extra is worth the extra cash. Thank you once again, I am definitely subscribing!
I was actually excited for this.. Iwant to support these dolls since Mattel is actually increasing the quality but I can’t because the fashion is still ugly and just lack of unoriginality. Idk when Mattel will ever learn 😐
I started my Barbie Extra collection with the black girl with the rainbow coat so far, thought it was definitely extra that her puppy has removeable shades! Lol Great video! I love to see the more obscure Barbie collector dolls too, more please!
I wish they had used the Made to Move bodies like they did for BMR and wheelchair using fashionistas. I think for the price point, the extra line still has some work to do to be comparable to their competition, but I am definitely going to be keeping an eye on the line.
Hey Clawdeena!!! I absolutely love you and your channel so much! You’re so beautiful and I enjoy watching your videos so much! I’m a 19 year old girl, and sometimes I feel like a child when buying dolls but you really inspired me to start collecting dolls again. Starting with Rainbow High! Your reviews are detailed and informational and you really know how to sell a product even if you aren’t being sponsored haha! Keep doing what you’re doin gurl cause I absolutely love it so much!!!
My unpopular opinion if I think Barbie is a great role model she keeps healthy and conquers anything she sets her eyes on. Yes, she may be a workaholic but that doesn’t stop her for caring for her sisters, boyfriend and whatever crazy adventure she’s going on. I hate how people hate on her for such shallow reasons as her looks.
I grew up with the The Barbie movies and I still watch them! There story is just so addicting and when you can play with a doll where you know her/his story by heart is just the best!
i personally love barbie, even though i don't play with them I just want to style them and put them on a shelf so they look pretty. My mom doesn't really like that idea but idrc i like dolls, I actually wana be a doll collector myself
I love this new addition to the barbie line!! Im literally just now finding out about it. I love the attention to detail with the clothes accessories and jewelry. I am already very interested in adding at least two of them to my collection
I think Barbie EXTRA is a fantastic step forward with the Barbie brand, but it’s still not QUITE the fashion and quality as we’re seeing from other companies right now for the same price. Especially because of the pixelated facepaint and weird chunky strips of hair, but for Barbie, this is the best we’ve seen in YEARS, and I think all Barbies should come with the standard full articulation + accesories (minus the cheaper 10 dollar ones that can stay the same).
Clawdeena9- The year is 2022, and I am just getting the opportunity to view your video. I enjoyed it very much. The dolls you included in this video are very iconic and timeless (in my opinion). I love the diverse doll line with the different heights, ethnicities, skin colors, etc, because I am an adult doll collector. I like to re-make things that inspire me in 3-D using the Fashionista dolls. I am currently working on "A Discovery of Witches", and have made my Sept-Tours. I have also made my Diana Bishop and Matthew de Claremont using Fashionistas. I am currently working on Ysabeau de Claremont and Phillipe de Claremont. The hard part is getting clothes of the 16th century. When I created Sept- Tours I focused on Phillipe's library. So I made a lot of the furniture, curtains, etc. The hardest part for me was the chairs as the detailing is very intricate. My teenage grandson is good at making the small miniature things I need for my doll houses. I purchase the Barbie Extra dolls whenever I am crafting a doll for someone else, as they have a lot on them and I do not need to change anything. For example, you want to create a Unicorn Barbie doll, well the Barbie Extra dolls all have stars, or hearts or sprinkles on their faces, and all you basically have to do is add a unicorn horn and tail to create them. Sooo easy. Again, I enjoyed your video. Thank you for sharing it.

Imo I hate how big the bratz heads are- don’t come for me
OMG your cosplay makeup is PERFECT!!You are so funny and awesome!
Barbie is literally the Queen of dolls and toys everywhere. 👑
💖💖
I VIVIDLY remember Barbie's breakup with Ken. I was swept up in the drama. xD
This is SUCH an awesome video. Great job! :D
Omg i'm early, finally gosh
Clawdeena looks like a doll herself 😍
Your videos are AMAZING!!🥺💗💗💗
Barbie Dolls are so popular😍 BUT I STILL MISS EVER AFTER HIGH!!!😭😭😭
SOLD! SOLD!
I do, but In the Barbie Extra dolls, their accessories just seem thrown on, especially on the purple haired one.
i was about 9when the barbie vlogs came out, and whenever i watched them i always felt better and like some one understood me.
Ok but why does Curvy Ken look like literally every normal body shape ever
Mga Stan's are the ones hating on them
@@studygram_ well that's true tho...
Hi oh I love your videos they’re the best and I hope you can make more every day
I’m finally early
Same
Me too
You're here omg 🥺💕
Me 4
Sane
Ikr,I remember I watched a vlog where she talked about depression and feeling blue. She is a really good role model and always has been.
Okay the quality of this video is immaculate!!💕💕
I think barbie is trying to go with what's trendy and not just reliable stuff anymore, because of the competition and nothing else. They are shaking in their boots and know if they don't step it up they might be forgotten. Lol omg and Rainbow hight are giving Barbie a run for her money...
Barbie is forever an icon. 💖 i just hope the quality on all of her dolls improves with time.
I love your videos! when i watch them i can really tell how much work and research you had to do! 😊💜
I love the Barbie Extra doll with the colorful french braids. Definitely need that one. 😍
the pic with the boy that has freckles looks so handsome 😭🤚😖
As a life long Barbie collector I think you did a great job ;-) Love your channel and I appreciate how much research and effort you put into your video's. Keep up the good work.
IM EARLY ❤️😭 I love you clawdeena!
I wish Mattel would make collector dolls of the old Barbie movie characters. As is clearly demonstrated by the popularity of reboots, nostalgia sells! I would buy the heck out of a Barbie Swan Lake or Princess and the Pauper collector doll.
Barbie has changed and improved so much, im so proud ♡
Honestly, I am in love with the Barbie Extra dolls. I so wish that I would have enough courage to ask my mom if I could buy one, but I'm way too scared to ask because at my day and age, it isnt really accepted for me to have one. :(
Ikr
Just came here to say I used to be exactly like you, but now than I've moved out for university I can buy whatever I want as long as I follow my budget. Last year I bought a stuffed baby deer and it's been my favorite belonging since then 💕 Sooner or later you'll also be able to buy things for yourself, be patient! Sending love 💓
I love toko
As usual, very well done... insightful, objective and informative.
Imagine being the kid of the creators of barbie. Bloody epic parents haha
Yay a new video. Been loving the consistency.
I remember seeing the BMR 1959 yellow top doll in my local Barnes & Noble so they were sometimes sold in stores.
Thank you once again, I am definitely subscribing!
..love or hate????she is the Queen..only LOVE🥰
Wow, your style and make up is beautiful! 🤩💖
Love your videos! They bring me so much nostalgia 💖
Lol
Great video! I love to see the more obscure Barbie collector dolls too, more please!
i’ve been waiting for this one!!!
This video reminded me of why I loved Barbie in the first place, despite all the heavy criticism it gets. Thank you for reminding of my childhood.
You're free to love whatever ya want 💕✨
My unpopular opinion if I think Barbie is a great role model she keeps healthy and conquers anything she sets her eyes on. Yes, she may be a workaholic but that doesn’t stop her for caring for her sisters, boyfriend and whatever crazy adventure she’s going on. I hate how people hate on her for such shallow reasons as her looks.
I grew up with the The Barbie movies and I still watch them! There story is just so addicting and when you can play with a doll where you know her/his story by heart is just the best!
Wow I am kinda late but early!I am a big fan btw!
You are literally STUNNING
Oooh! My pic made it on your vid! (the group pic of Fashionistas). Awesome!!! Great vid (and not by bias lol).
5 min tho. Btw i loooovvvveeee ur channel omg yasssssdddd
About to rewatch this a couple more times after I’m done sharing! 💗💗💗
When you already know all these facts
i personally love barbie, even though i don't play with them I just want to style them and put them on a shelf so they look pretty.
I love your content! Prime toy journalism and i greatly appreciate the in depth research and fun content. Bravo homie!!!
Idk why ppl get pissed over the diversity. To me, they are more fun to play with lol.
I never had a Barbie as a Child but I really want the Barbie Extra with the yellow Beanie 🥺
So you liked bratz
you were made to narrate...ur voice is so charismatic !!!!!!
I really like 80s Barbie faces, I used to have some of my moms and they were my favorites
7:56 it makes the face paint very resistant. I watch hextian, and he says that type of face paint is way harder to remove from the normal type
