I wonder if either there was sexual misconduct or something that made her then husband insist she quit. I can’t imagine being offered that much money and still saying no. Even over alcohol. It had to be something serious. Also the fact she never truly addressed it also suggest some form of sexual thing as women do t report out of embarrasment or not being believed

Being 74 years I grew up just after WW2 had ended and my friends had Dad’s that were Printers , construction of wood framed homes. The Dad’s always drank Beer and the Painters drank because of the paint they were using, especially the enamel paint because of the airborne vapor of the Enamels and using the paint thinner to clean the brush. All paints are water based now.
