I had forgotten Jay Novacek started in St. Louis. I believe Monk’s injury kept him out until the Super Bowl, which allowed eventual QB Doug Williams to gain a rapport with Ricky Sanders. Sanders caught two long TD’s in the Super Bowl and set a new record for receiving yards broken the following year by Jerry Rice.
Plus, Doug was the No. 2 QB, so on his 1st squad, his.No.1 WR was Rick. That practice rewarded us 2 guys who could step right in. This success birthed THE POSSE.
The Cardinals were a talented team in a powerhouse division..... If the played in the Central division they would have been a division winner most of the 80's and even if they were in the West they would be in the playoff hunt every year....
@@soxpackerThey were much better than my Bears. All we had at this point was Walter ,Dent , Singletary & Coach Ditka Jim was never more than slightly above avg. We were lucky as can be after we lost Coach Ryan & Walter.......I've been a bears fan since 84 & The last time we were good was when we got beat by the Indianapolis refs in super bowl XL1& in all honesty I believe that team , lead by Grossman would have beaten our 85 team..yeah even being lead by Grossman 🤫🤫
The Saint Louis Cardinals were like the Washing Generals, the team that always lost to the Globetrotters. As a teen, it seems every time they played they looked promising but lost. Every time.
The Cardinals actually weren't that bad that year. They actually had to go to Dallas and if they won, they would've gotten a wildcard spot. The Cardinals lost in the very next season they would be in Arizona. Even in this game, the St. Louis fans didn't care for this football team.

They were better than the Bears? I don't think so... and I hate the Bears.

St. Louis doesn’t really hate football, but it has always been a baseball town through and through.
SHEESH! For another million, will you catch and hold on to the football?
