As a jazz pianist of some 60 years, I'd love to say how hellishly difficult stride piano is. This wonderful lady has single handily revived the skill of what was invented in the early part of the 20th century. She's accurate with her left hand, and the right hand is tastefully busy also. Then put together and you're in a whole new area of difficulty. I have been forced to get practising once again. Brilliant.
"Single handedly" is an over statement. There are others who have contributed to the revival of stride. Stephanie Trick, for example. But I rank Jimin up there. I love both of them and others. I look forward to all older forms of jazz continuing to have a life and even growing more.
@@GrahameGould Trick indeed, and the very distinguished pianist with whom she has on occasion played duets, Dick Hyman, who has been flying the flag for stride (and SO MUCH else!) for a great many decades.
I'm so envious of those who can bring beauty into the world. Be it music, drawing, painting, dancing, or any other form of creation. It's truly wonderful to experience the beauty people bring to the world ❤
I sure you already do, but you can as well! I went from drawing lopsided stick figures to pretty good (cartoon-y) illustrations. It took quite a while but it wasn't hard, I just kept plugging away at it my whole life. Drawing something just for myself every now and then.
You can too! You just did some through a few, well chosen, kind words ❤ New techniques are there to be learned! It's a messy and a joyous process. Never give up!
I feel the same way, I was born without an artistic bone which makes me appreciate people that have one so much more. I also appreciate people that know the difference between envious and jealous!
Left hand like a… man I don’t even know Just so solid and reliable sounding. You almost can tune it out and be led by the melody. That’s how good it is. And it’s even better than that.
Who needs rock'n'roll?! 😊 You can read about Django Reinhardt life, some songs swing a bit like this, the audience often went crazy, teenagers breaking chairs ! Speaking about Rock'n'roll in the 80's you could be 12 and discover Chuck Berry, Fats Domino, Jerry Lee Lewis and all listening to a tape, while 'new wave' DX7 were haunting through cities speakers... You had to have a strong character to admit you like RnR !! It was easier to appreciate jazz when kids were learning piano, classic playing was the rule. Thanks Scott Joplin... That makes me think when we talk about great musicians we don't forget Mozart and Bach, but Art Tatum ?! Your music made me feel completely awake 🎉 Congratulations 👏
My dad played Dixieland jazz in a very well-known band call the Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Band, and was one of the original members, who created the internationally-known Bix Beiderbecke Memorial Jazz Festival that happens every year in Davenport, Iowa. He would play stride piano at home for fun. I spent a lot of time standing next to the piano watching him play Maple Leaf Rag, Boogie-Woogie Washer Woman, and other fun tunes when I was a kid.
WOAH! I came from another video of you playing this, I recognized the progression from somewhere and wherever I did I remember it being played equally virtuosically. Then you put the title on screen and I realized what I was hearing was Patrick Bartley play saxophone over it, one of my favorite solos of all time! I had no idea this was a stride piece originally. What an amazing piece played by an amazing pianist!

Single handedly? Lmao

It isn't single-handed, she's clearly using both hands
@@GrahameGould Trick indeed, and the very distinguished pianist with whom she has on occasion played duets, Dick Hyman, who has been flying the flag for stride (and SO MUCH else!) for a great many decades.
I can’t imagine how two hands do separate tasks, both very complicated.
I’m an old man, and that’s the first hotel piano I’ve ever heard in tune.
Is it? Haha
It's not super in tune, but that's actually perfect for this kind of music.
@
It’s closer to being in tune than any public piano I’ve ever heard. 😂
At least it’s recognizable! 😎
Switzerland.
I agree 👏🏻
Playing like that should be joyful. Bless her. I hope she continues to play for 90 years more.
Nothing like upbeat piano jazz from the roaring 20s. Bravo young lady. You have serious chops.

Beautiful comment. Bless you.
Don't be envious, you already bring beauty and love with your comment !

Stride with the afterburner on. That is amazing!

I love this. Could listen and watch her playing this all day!
I might have a seizure.
She's Great! I love this!❤
All I heared wuz "Oh yah, really ? Hold my beer ! ! "
I love to see the smile on her face clearly enjoying the music.
TY for spending countless practice hours to reach this pinnacle of prowess for all our ears to enjoy. You go girl!!!
Close your eyes and listen... it's just amazing.
do you know that you can listen with your eyes open?
Open your eyes and listen... it's just amazing.

@@anonymousaccordionist3326 Hey! Don't look at him in that tone of voice!
The best that piano has ever felt!
I think chopin would have been so mesmerized seeing the future of piano as you do now
Yes.
Rachmaninoff said that Art Tatum was the greatest pianist of our time. (their time I suppose)
It's really hard to believe this is even possible, she has AMAZING talent, what a gift she is. ❤❤
Jimin Park, performing "After you've gone". She is the best, she got that rhythm.
Holy moly I can listen to this all day
A delightful tune played by a very skilled young lady.
The happiest music! Thank you so much!
"After You've Gone" is a favorite! Thank you for posting this!
Amazing skill. Can’t even imagine keeping that pace up for hours playing in a Speakeasy in the 1920s.
Mind-boggling hand speed and coordination.
Holy cow! Both sides of her brain are working!
Mad respect!

It doesn't get any better . Phenomenal playing. ❤ love it !
It's wonderful nothing else to say except she is the greatest.
"the greatest" of all piano players?
@redwarf8118Perhaps among the modern stride piano players, i think. But it's True, you have also Lucas Sestak, Ladyva, Stéphanie Trick, ...
@@patcauch i kind of agree that she is the greatest betwen modern stride piano players, imo
Pure 100% joyousness.
Mesmerising. Would I be wrong to imagine sitting in a bar in a shanty town in 1930s America listening to this?
Goosebumps and ear to ear smile
The whole vid 👍👍
I have no words and I'm in shock seeing that skill. truly amazing.
That is amaaazingly beautiful work!!!

Dang, that's fast. Giving Art a run for his money.
❤Just LOVE stride.😁🍷🎶
Будто Шопен играет джаз, её техника и исполнение без фальша бесподобно.👍👍👍👏👏👏

Your thin grin plays how you feel it. Thanks for sharing. We feel it too!

Such a happy melody!
The world needs it right now.
It is "After you have gone".
È una divinità ❤❤. Non mi esce dalla testa dopo averla vista e ascoltata decine e decine di volte.
Wow!! Incredible!! 🙏🏻🙏🏻🙏🏻
You are just so good! With music like this life must feel so good.
Love this! What a cool memory too ❤
Playing a different time signature with each hand is inconceivable to me.
Counterpoint kindly!
And feet
She’s not playing a different time signature in each hand, just difficult rhythmic complexity between the two hands
Nice! The speed enhances the music. It’s not just speed for the sake of it. I’d give my right hand to play piano like that!
You can't afford to "give" your right hand. You'd need ALL your hands to play like that!
magnificent!
Extraordinaria.. realmente maravillosa
She seems happier after you’ve gone
❤❤❤❤❤ it!! You are incredible!!! Amazing!! Sana love from Kenya!!
