@@BlueRidgeMusky I'll have to check that out! I mean I guess you could always throw a bass one on a lighter musky setup I just get nervous throwing actual Bass Gear for them, I like having the option to kind of horse them in if I need to say keep it out of the trolling motor something like that
Yea I kinda wish I had more power on this fish when I was fighting her. You can hear me tell Brent I wasn’t able to control her for a net job how we wanted .
@@BlueRidgeMusky Yea the pucker factor is real anytime it takes a run! I could see a little bit more power being super helpful in that situation. Hell I lost what would have been my PB on musky gear after the fish took a hard run under the boat and around the trolling motor and was able to use the Leverage to shake the bait. Luckily it didn't get in the trolling motor that's the only thing that could have the situation any worse LOL. But hey awesome job
I’ve lost a few fish in trolling motors and anchor lines over the years myself !
This video is pure electricity can't beat a fight like that! also it seems like that googan paddle tail would be a good early szn bait as well.
I run a lot of Keitechs , they have been a favorite for years. But those googan baits , regardless of how you feel about the creators, they are some killer baits , the paddle tail in particular is great !

I think a heavy duty bass flipping combo would be great for that style of fishing. You'd have a little more horsepower to get those skis in. There's tackle made specifically for the big teener largemouth they catch out in California. Beefier hooks for big fish.
Oh I was definitely under powered on that fish, 100% . I had a heavy bass flipping rod right next to me , just so happened my jig was tied on this rod at the time . Should have taken the extra minute to change over but you know what they say about hindsight 😂

I got my first one out of the Shenandoah. They’re picky there but my suggestion is fish murky water during a major or minor where you’ve got follows before. That worked for me

Thank you so much for the advice! Yeah I’m watching this Hurricane coming through this weekend and I think it’s going to bring the water temps down and muddy the water up at the same time so I think I’m gonna try to head out there sometime early next week and give it a shot! I saw a couple last time and had one really close follow but the water was pretty clear so maybe with muddier water one will make a mistake!

Funny how big predatory fish want small baits a lot of the time. My first musky follow was just on a 5.8 inch Keitech on an underspin head that I throw for largemouth a lot. And the only fish I ever got to go into a figure 8 was on a 4 inch fish lab biogill swimbait. And when I was pier fishing last week a 30 pound king mackerel ate a 2 inch threadfin lol
Sometimes they are eating small bait fish and crawfish and so throwing large baits won’t always be productive .
