    Your content is so deserving of 1000x more subscribers. As a fairly new DM running his first Planescape campaign, your videos have been one of my most valuable resources.

    The D&D 3e City of the Spider Queen adventure is centered around Kiaransalee's cult. It is a well written adventure with a lot of "If the PCs wait or choose path A, here's the timeline for path B and C progression" details that helped mold my DMing flavor.

    I love Kiaransalee. One of my favorite villainesses. I Hated the end of the War of the Spider Queen books, so I ran a campaign where it was an avatar of Kiaransalee that died in the war, the last avatar as the rest had been imprisoned in a specially designed prison world by specially designed Inevitables whose job it was to round up her and her rival, Jadewind Bladefell, and all their most powerful minions and lock them up. The epic battles between the warring goddesses and their minions were so bad the Inevitables were afraid of a multidimensional Spellplague-type event and said "oh h*ll no, we're putting a stop to that sh*t." They broke the Forgotten Realms. Good Times.

    Something I wish existed was a lore collection that describes all the changes and additions with in-universe terms where rulebook descriptions are scholarly works (with editions being referred to as perhaps scholars of different eras or the like), dragon and dungeon maybe get their own terms like archives, adventures are the tales of bards, fiction novel revealed lore is maybe described as the results of interviews (unless it was not revealed to anyone who could conceivably be interviewed in which case it's a rumor), stuff that got retconned is referred to as currently considered apocryphal, contradictions are openly acknowledged in a way that leaves it open to interpretation, the whole shebang...

    This video is an awesome, comprehensive deep dive into drow lore. I never had much interest in Kiaransalee, but that has changed.
    I hope you could consider doing a similar episode for Zinzerena, the drow goddess of assassination, illusions, and lies. She also originates in Greyhawk, yet she had a place in 5e due to an entry published in MToF.

    Kiaransalee, is my favorite Drow after Lloth. So now that you have done a video on her, will you be doing one on Velsharoon? Since he was a Lich and became the God of Necromancy, it would be fitting for you to do one on him since your channel is named Riches and 'Liches'.
    Also will you be doing any more lore, stories etc, on the Pharaoh Ankahara?
    And will you be doing any about any Mummies, Vampires or Liches set in or one that is from Kara Tur? Since KT is based on Ancient China and they have a concept in their faith of Taoism of the Taoist Immortals, maybe someone could have tried to become an Immortal and either through lack of faith or he was just not willing to wait so long in order to achieve it, chose a dark path instead in order to become one. Just a thought.

    In the Complete Wizards Handbook and the Complete Necromancers Handbook, both products by TSR during the 2nd Edition of AD&D are quite clear: Elves can not specialize in necromancy. Thus Kiransalee is either a generalist mage who chose to semi-specialize in the Dark Art or she is the reason the gods have forbidden elves to follow a like path.

    • @RichesandLiches
      @RichesandLiches  3 месяца назад +7

      I will check those resources out as well, but I would refer you to both the demihuman deities for the second edition and faiths and pantheons from the third. Both make it very clear that Kiaransalee and her followers dwell in the school of necromancy. This is further confirmed by more recent resources such as the FR wiki.
      Thanks for the great feedback!

    Yathrinshee was implemented so badly in dnd 3.5 (granted if you make it 100% spell progression it's suddenly not as horrible but drow still have that painful LA in that edition severely limiting your potential)

    There is a slasher franchise that, if translated over to D&D from our world, that she would possibly have a hand in, even if we keep the slasher as a human.
    Tell me that the story of Jason Voorhees of the Friday the 13th franchise doesn't have at least some tangental connection to something the Revenancer wouldn't have a connection to

    I’ve only found your channel recently but I am so happy I found it! You’re far and away one of my very fave D&D creators and your voice is fantastic for narration!
    Dowager’s first definition is a widow or widower who inherits a title, its secondary definition is an old woman. A widowed queen who inherits a kingdom is known as the queen dowager so I’m assuming that’s what they’re going for with Pitiless Dowager

    This was a fun look one of, in my opinion, at least, the more obscure goddesses. I have problem, some might say; as a longer-term player of D&D, and even more a lore hound, my appreciation for the Drow is as they've been depicted; evil, and treacherous. I actually enjoy at least some of their Saturday morning cartoon villain tropes, and i don't personally have much interest in more modern desires to "improve" them, and take their edge off. I don't object to people wanting to play them, but in my worlds, they can expect a certain bit mistrust, and might have to rarn some goodwill, if it's even possible, with specific NPCs, and I don't seevthat as bad. Ive used Good Drow, strugling to find their place, and make one for others who want somryhing different than the Lolthite way, and others who have actively enjoyed preying on the desire to see the Drow in a better light, at base, instead of seeing where they really stand, and so I feel there is room for most, as is, without tearing down their lore, but I also like occasionally having alternatives to just Lolth, and Kiaransalee is i wonderful, terrible option.😊
    I am left to wonder, though, then, what might the Revenancer's views be on mummies, and mummy lords? They are often my first thought for powerful, sentient, spellcasting undead, as well as often made after demonstrating some amounts of impressive loyalty, so I feel like it could be cool to have a temple of Hers that houses a mummy lord divine caster? Maybe it bears an enchantment im specifically fond of that allows it to retain its elven beauty preserved, instead of loking waxen, decayed, or likeca heap of bandages, but I suppose it is not mandatory. They are kind of lich-lite, and often deliver curses, and vengeance, upon those who dare intrude upon their lairs, which I feel fits with Kiaranselee's lore well.
    It is wrird, though, as i have recollection of elves, in particular, often not taking well to undeath, as Corellon protects them. 2e elven Vampires, barring Jander Sunstar, were hideous, and disfigured, while other necromancy magic just failed. Am I making this up? Remembering it wrong? Or did Kiaranselee just decide to prove her chops by picking to use necromancy on people it usually doesn't work on, and she still forced on through?

    I do enjoy the Warhammer concept of time being a mess for the planar entities...if you use that sort of logic, Kiaransalee could have ruled Thanatos for almost a thousand years by the reckoning of her and Orcus and other planar entities, even if it was just a few years by the records of mortals

    So... What is her relationship to other gods of death?

    • @RichesandLiches
      @RichesandLiches  3 месяца назад +7

      I would make a few points on that.
      First, her domain is limited mainly to the drow, which both separates her from other FR death gods.
      Second, she is rather unique in that she has an affinity for the dead, unlike the other, the "traditional" gods of death such as Kelemvor, Jergal, Myrkul and Cyric.
      And then there are the more bloodthirsty gods associated with death such as Bhaal, Velsharoon and Loviatar.
      Hope that answered your question and thanks for watching!
