    People complaining that this game is just a reskin of other TW games are totally missing the point, ofc it's a reskin, that is what I want with Total War, I don't want them to move away from a tried and tested formula that works so damn well. I actually don't want them to change much at all, I just want new settings, maps and armies to play with and that is exactly what I got. Total War games are about this kind of stuff, I am not sure what people are complaining about when they say it's a reskin, that is like saying my new car is a reskin of my old one as it's another car.

      People are genuinely complaining in the comments that Total War still has battles. Can't win with these people.

      Respect your opinion, I just don't understand why we getting this era when we just had a bunch of melee battle era and so close to the Attila era. If they upgraded their engine, like new cars does, and remaster Empire I would have brought it.

    • @GRAFFDEMON
      @GRAFFDEMON 6 лет назад +15

      Because people are interested in this period of history. This is not even close to the Attila era in terms of geographical powers at play like the remnants of Rome and the hun threat.
      I, personally, like this smaller scale for this time period. This era is essentially what defined modern Britain for years to come. It is more than just "melee".

    Hi Mack... I'm an Aussie and I visited U.K. for work once. I worked in Derby for 10 days and had 2 days off. I chose to visit York (rather than London) because I wanted to see some proper old history - and I thought it was a really interesting place. Never saw the Harry Potter shop.

    Don't compromise, we shouldn't accept lazy reskins with fewer and fewer features each year where we have to pay another $60 for the rest of the game as DLC.

    I think one of the greatest challenges with strategy games of this style is how to handle resources. Having an edge in resources over your opponents gives you a huge advantage. As you control more and build up your infrastructure you can field larger armies. Larger armies will flat out crush smaller armies (generally) which allows you to take even more land which increases your income and increases your ability to field even larger armies. At a certain point, you just start snowballing too hard to be stopped.

    • @mcsmash4905

    It feels like they've been using the same engine since Shogun 2. I can't stand the squishy melees anymore and I miss the old Rome 1 and Medieval 2 grand campaign systems. The new provincial system is garbage and trade is worthless other than just boosting relations. I've bought enough Rome 2 reskins. I'll wait for a new engine with something different.

    • @Acesahn

      Yeah, everyone's impressed by multiple layers to city battles now, even though they've been a thing in M2 and R1. Arguably better due to less choke points. It's sad how much more fun I have today playing the Warhammer mod for Medieval 2 than I do the new Warhammer, which killed sieges even more.

      @Divert486 6 лет назад +3

      In that regard, fair enough. I haven't played the Warhammer games, i'm not into fantasy. But that's a pretty slim margin of difference considering the franchise as a whole.

      GuvnorDread no before you go into a raid you can select to play in offline mode and choose wether to throw the AI in or not. You will not lose your gear when you die but you cant gain anything either, its literally just for practice against the AI or to help you learn the maps. Absolutely invaluable but unfortunately most dont use it and go in blind and that can have a very negative effect on the experience, if you dont use it and go in blind without watching any kind of guides its almost a guaranteed death because you simply wont find your way out, you can imagine this pisses a lot of new players off. But the options are there for you to use and those that use it certainly benefit.

      Han Lockhart except that only magic is innovation, whilest there exist no abilities / loose formation and the empire / bretons / dwarfs can't even use formations like shield- / spearwall.
      Even animations are lazy, ever took the time and watched a cannon reload? You can't, there is no animation for that in whtw.

    • @Acesahn
      @Acesahn 6 лет назад +2

      They did innovate at hiding their poor fake collision detection though. They have the units fight and act like one thing, with individual soldiers dropping by the handfuls at certain "health bar" depletion. While thats piss poor mechanics compared to Rome1 Medieval 2, its freaking amazing compared to Rome 2 Shogun 2.

    • @nietname2468

      Acesahn it is sad though, as a fan of tw ( since rome i) and warhammer ( Chaos Army) this game could've been so much more.

  • @Acesahn
    @Acesahn 6 лет назад +5

    The only interesting Throne of Britannia is King Arthur's, and he's a fictional character. I recently bought some old total war games being Rome 1, Medieval 2, and Shogun 2. (I know Shogun 2 isn't actually that old) I love politically resolving conflicts more than fighting battles, well unless it's a huge bunch of forces than I fight them. So them dumbing down the campaign sucks for me don't think I'm getting this one.

    Very disappointing that you gave this game a worth a buy seal of approval. It's the most uninspiring TW game ever made and it's taken the franchise in the wrong direction. I think the Steam reviews were 82% positive yesterday morning, down to 71% now - I can see it shooting down to around 60% in a couple of weeks. It's OK if you want to sit on the fence and give it a 50/50 but don't be a sheep like all these other reviewers and say this is a worthy TW game.

  • @jojolafrite90

    Too bad there is no tutorial. And they won't even let you replay battles even at the start so you can learn things. And the map and all that happens on it is an enigma. No help in the game, '(yeah, I know it's a tool-tip paradise, but it won't tell you anything useful in terms of what to do).
    Best I could do was get massacred though I had managed somehow on y first playthrough to have a more than 1400 army, but some guy I didn't eve see was there and he massacred my army with an even bigger one. I was pissed. My keyboard won't be the same, now.
    And I though I was doing good going all to the north trying to attack an enemy. Never even got to really get far.
    And millions of things that I don't get happen every turn, nations get destroyed every turn, no, it's a fucking mess, actually.
    Oh, and I apparently everyone was pissed because that micro army I raised and that got fucked (just added like 3 units to the only army they gave me at start was too expensive) was costing too much and I had to raise taxes... Though people were pissed even almost from the start for no reason, but when I clicked on the button that told me to do something about it, I never found what action was supposed to calm these people in some settlement or region I don't even know.
    That game is the most confusing thing I've ever tried in my entire life. I was even more confused than that time I banged that girl in a mental hospital after I had a mental breakdown (don't even ask).

      TW players prefer the old concept. Just give us new settings and maps and new armies to control and we're fine. Not every title has to bring something new. Do you know how hard it is to come up with a unique thing in gaming? Go ahead, give it a try, present me with a new concept and I'll try not to find a game that hasn't already done that.

    The #1 problem with TW is that the maps are ridiculous and the armies start too far apart and the AI wants to run around in all directions, and moving your own army is a huge chore, and when you are close enough the AI just runs around from behind your setup and all your work was for nothing. Then the rest of the game goes running after the underpowered AI units that run away, or being flanked unless you constantly pause and rearrange. The #2 is the constant AI skirmish mode, where his archers will run away as one like a school of mackerels, the moment your swordsmen reach close enough and where each mackerel is Usain Bolt. Then when you stop chasing and walk away, they start firing again. So it is a complete AI "run around the map and annoy with archers" setup. I kind of hate Total War. That is not how the battles in history went down.

    • @simohenrik1860
      @simohenrik1860 4 года назад

      even in this review, even though you do not mention it, you can see the AI either forced into choke points in very rare setups, or you can see the AI chow both ends of your lines. They will not meet in the middle, ever.

Don't play that ass one Seven Kingdoms, that's just Westeros, and takes place close to right after the building of the wall, just get the mod "A Game of Thrones" also there are several submods for extra bookmarks so you can play at where the show is currently with the "Winds of Winter bookmark tab" Can also play as ANY landed character in Westeros, a few in Essos (All with DLC)

    anyone here hates total war games ?
    I played total war rome 2 after watching plenty of tutorials but lost a lot of battles even when I had big advantage in the easiest difficulty possible so deleted after 5 hours
    tried shogun 2 but same story deleted twice in short time because I could not get along with it
    how can I learn this game ?
    i want to love total war games but i always fail XD

      @badrech - try and get the original shogun (shogun 1) working or a trickier one to get working is Medieval 1. Rome introduced a different system. The first two were better games and all over easier and more straight forward to understand. Good luck

    Sounds like they're going back to the mechanics set they had in Atilla, at least as far as generals and such.
    Although if you're saying it's too easy, LOL, that's a direct opposite of Atilla, imo the hardest in the series thus far.
    Oh well, definitely grabbing this and three kingdoms. I'm glad they haven't decided to put these on console yet because they'd break all the mechanics trying to do so.
    I'm glad sieges are back as well. I really like the unit diversity and gameplay in Warhammer, but Holy hell I wish they'd add good sieges to the warhammer titles.

    Love you guys....looks like the first TW game I may buy since Napoleon. Been boycotting them ever since the fantasy crap warhammer. Yes Harry Potter was a rubbish. I hope they do Medieval 3 so I can beatup the French, Spanish, Welsh, Scots, Irish, the Pope again...all of them basically...

  • @mr.poobah2909
    @mr.poobah2909 6 лет назад

    I believe they should tone down on the paired animation fighting just a bit (not remove) and just continue to add as much historical immersion as much as possible. If they do that any TW game will be amazing. Then you have something to reskin and would never matter. Hell I'd love a now a day version. Being able to be the "great American Empire" or oppressed middle East countries, new rising strength iron curtain Russia, secret corporation countries putting presidents in place being able to use intelligence agencies such as CIA KGB or Interpol to manipulate countries bringing a whole new point of view and use to spies. Funding extremist groups being caught creating worldwide diplomatic effects and having religion and multiculturalism a whole different level of issue. However a game like that would get so much controversy. Plus I'm sure creating the ballistic aspect would be hell. Plus explosions you'd need a damn good computer to run it. It'd come out like a strange mix of TW and Civilization V. And my Lord the amount of little dlc side countries you could pump out for that thing....a man can dream

    How would this be as an entry point into the Total War Series of games?
    I don't recall ever playing one, although a long time ago I loved some similar type of games. I used to love all sorts of games, but once I got on broadband there was a long stretch where the games I played became more limited, I played tons of fps, and of course was majorly addicted to Counter Strike, and then online multiplayer became the thing with Planetside, Pirates of the Burning Sea, Eve Online (this and Counter Strike are the two games I wish I knew how many hours I had played the, it had to be well over 10k hours each.)
    So here I sit a couple decades later and I've been more and more into games I never thought I would enjoy, from Ark, Factario, Rimworld, Subnautica, and many others, many of them thanks to your recommendations here on WAB, and I thank you for that, between you, and a couple other RUclipsrs you turned me onto so many smaller games, that I would never have even considered but I've ended up loving them and of course those led me to others of the same/similar type. In fact, when I find myself wanting to try something I don't have, I've been known to just open your WAB playlist with games you've recommended and shopped around on it for something new to play.

    Did they ever fix the melee system which was broken since Empire because the new engine was only intended for musket warfare? People phasing through each other, only fighting 1 on 1, locked into canned animations instead of fighting like a unit.

  • @chrisgibson8863
    @chrisgibson8863 6 лет назад

    Wow... So there are no agents anymore? No ambush battles? Why don’t they just warp right to the end state they want this series to be, two factions that march on a rail guided path towards each other, collide and fight a five minute battle.
    That’s hyperbole but seriously why can’t games just be complicated and fiddly sometimes? Streamlining sucks.

    As a die hard fan of Total War, this game might be a step in the right direction. The older games all had broken campaigns unless you modded them to be whatever you wanted them to be. This "dumbing down" might actually fix it.

    I like where their going with this. Personally, I don't care much for all the squabbles in England, but different games highlighting pivotal times in history across all parts of the world is a nice break from warhammer. I'm enjoying my DEI Campaigns in rome 2 quite a bit and three kingdoms sounds exciting even if they cut features u can mod them back in and finally we can play in china.

    Mack i see that you like this one and i can see why but... Its so dumbed down compared to the previous games in the series.. Bad sieges, zero politics, nonexistent diplomacy, almost nothing to build... You are right when you say that everything is streamlined here but its a bad thing mate... Its basically not a game for anyone who played previous games especially those older games in the series ^^
