Change the Default Documents Folder (and other folders) Location to a Different Drive in Windows 11

  • By default, Windows will store your documents in the Documents (My Documents) folder located on the C drive under your username. If you have a separate drive that you would rather store your documents on yet still be able to save to the Documents folder then its easy to change its location.
You can also do this for the Videos, Pictures, Downloads, Music and Desktop folders. This will also work the same way for Windows 10 computers.
Here is a writeup on the process.

I did this to try and get Onedrive to stop syncing files. But apparently the idiots at microsoft don't know how to make things user friendly so I keep getting errors that say there is another folder in the location I'm trying to move it in that can't be redirected...even when the folder it's talking about doesn't exist.

I have seen that before and sometimes you will have the Location tab when you check the properties of the folder in the quick access section at the upper left and sometimes you need to go to the actual folder at C:\users\username. You can try something like this to see if it brings the location tab back. If I had a PC with that problem, I would test it out but I don't.
