I would Totally Respray the Plastic House to a neutral colour or white, so the those removeable background cut out can be mix and match to different style. This is amazing idea!

Totally. I think Toya need to try another crafts like spray color / UV resin (remembering she’s always try new kind of craft tools but still with the same technique)

I also did a makeover to my 2020 Barbie dream house, it's the one with a big purple slide, I didn't like it so I turned it into a school, enlarged the spaces and made a roof and now it's I look more beautiful

This playset reminds me of the blue Barbie dollhouse where the bed turned into a bathtub/shower and the 2nd bedroom had a kitchen on the other side you could spin. It was all compact too 😌 good times

The Barbie family house 1998?! I have that one too and am currently customizing it! I’m getting great ideas from watching myfroggystuff. 😊 When I was 9 that dream house was the equivalent of the red Ryder BB gun from a Christmas Story for me. By far my most memorable Christmas present as a kid. 😂

My childhood was in the 60's and the Barbie house that I had (my older sister claimed the original Barbie dream house left there when our parents bought the house), so I got one that folded up too, there was a roof over the center section so it looked like something when it was folded up. You open each side to lay a floor flat, the right side was the kitchen design a round table, a comfy pink plastic round chair, a printed fireplace, the left fold down floor had the bed on it, it was hinged on the long side and opened to provide storage for clothes underneath. I still had it into my 40's but decided to give it to the twin girls down the street. Not 5 minutes after they got it, they pulled the top off the kitchen table, maybe it was a coffee table. Grrr. All I could do not to take it back . I've drawn a sketch of how I remember it, wondering if I could recreate something similar, sort of like a hidden room but the center is fixed and rooms open on both sides .

This reminds me so much of how I used to make wall extensions to every Barbie house I owned with pieces of cardboard covered in wrapping paper. The printed on backdrops used to make me crazy. Especially when they printed on furniture that was also part of the play set! I always ended up with a house 4 times the size of the original.
I've had this in my hand and put this down (on sale, not clearance) so many times, thinking of redoing it myself. Now that you have, it must come home with me next time i see it!

This is Great! I never understood why the backgrounds on the doll houses weren't never usable. It would make more sense and these doll houses aren't cheap so Everything in it should be usable. Maybe I can run across a doll house that's on sell at 12 or so dollars. I mean you can't beat that!
I absolutely adore the creativity used here 😊 (As a child, I'd do similar things in my bedroom (e.g. opening a wardrobe door to be a faux wall or door to another 'room' to create an apartment within my bedroom 🤭) I think some curtains on the windows would look really nice here too & perhaps cover a bit more of the plastic walls you're not so keen on? This turned out really cute! I'm really surprised they wanted $40 for a doll efficiency. But you made it so much better, I like how you extended the space , and it's nice that you had that other furniture and accessories to liven it up. Great work!

Love it! Toya, could you possibly do something like this with a Barbie Space Discovery Playset? I know they are big and bulky, (and might be outside the size range you like to work with) but I'd like to see you work your magic on one. A little Sci-Fi adventure in a Barbie world never hurt anyone! (Although, it might make the dolls from Life on the Shelf a little nervous if they end up going from the shelf into outer space!)
Hmmm, I've asked if she could make a custom Leeloo doll from the space movie the Fifth Element. Maybe both ideas could merge? I've come across one 1:6 scale Leeloo figure already, and someone made the apartment of the main male character but there are lots of places where this movie took place, including multiple space ships

When I was young, I had a playset that was very similar to this (a fold up Barbie house styled in the early 2000's decor aesthetic rather then the 2020's style of this one), it was nice for a budget option compared to the Dreamhouse, but I think if my parents or older siblings had helped me to customize it like this, I probably wouldn't have gotten rid of it when I did my teenage doll purge (seriously, I got rid of like 99% of my Barbies because I was convinced that I was too old for dolls)

I just bought one of these sets on eBay. Mine is used but still nice. I can’t wait to redo mine. I hate where the designers put the toilet. I like your idea of bending the wall back, and making the bathroom a separate room.

Ooo you're braver than me, taking out those pictures. I got a $14 barbie closet on amazon and I decided (since I'm not fond of pink) to paint it. I noticed the backdrop was a printable, but I ended up painting it instead of removing it because we couldnt' figure out how to get those little plastic deals out.

Id love to see one of these for a more victorian gothic lifestyler. Not a witch, not killstar or halloweeny. Not pastel goth but traditional. And definitely not dark academia( well maybe a little of that because literature and music are the staples). Lots of velvet,long puddled drapes, tea set, dark espresso wood or black. Chandeliers,candelabras, tapestries,a canopy bed,dried flowers, specimen shadow boxes,bookcases, record player or gramaphone. 🥰
