As always, I'm Dan from The New Travel. Thanks for watching!
So cool to see an outsider's perspective of our little city!
I am from Erie I live here to on peach Street
Neighbor to the south in McKean
Was kind of neat to come across this I also am from Erie!
It felt like rediscovering some of what I did, when I moved here in 2014. Been visiting the area and city since 1993, one of my ex girlfriends was from here, so I had a local to show me around back then.
Ended up moving here, when our daughter picked her college. Left NY, and don't regret it.
I live here around 38th. It's s pretty nice little city we got here

It was nice to see Erie from a tourist point of view. I’ve been here my entire life and never went to the ski lodge. You made me think of what else is here I haven’t experienced yet. You should come in the summer. We have some really cool spots. Having someone from the area to show you around would be a totally different experience for you.
Waldermeer is the most fun amusement park in PA!!!! My family and I used to go all the time.
Me too
Hello Jamie how have you been? I’d love it if we could catch up 😌
Yeah, I’ve always been bored with it until now he makes me wanna move
@Chris Ghost theres one in edinboro area. Mount pleasant.
Ive been in Erie most my life. Sometimes you forget what this city has to offer. Winters are long and rough sometimes. But because of that the summer's more than make up for it. When everything is up and running, its like the whole city gets together and celebrates the weather. So many activities in the summer. Car shows, block parties, festivals, fairs, sports, bike nights, etc.... I would highly recommend coming back in the summer months. Nothing quite like it.
I have lived in Erie for 39 years, but my hometown is Edinboro, PA. I'm disabled so can't get out and about like I wish I could. I enjoyed your tour and the places you stopped to eat. I wish I could have gone along. Thanks for the visit. Canadians are so friendly.
I'm from Edinboro too

I moved away from Erie to Louisiana 27 years ago. The only thing I really miss about Erie is my friends. There are a lot of good people there.
Love the people in erie they show you so much love coming from philly
As someone who lived in Erie, PA when they were younger, this video portrayed a wonderful view, this was great.
Thank you Dan, I Am pleased to see that you enjoyed Erie, Pennsylvania and hope you return during the summer and enjoy the festivities then. God Bless and take care.
Thanks for stopping by! Erie native and I love this town.
Glad you started the video at our famous peninsula...We do have top 5 best sunsets in the world...Our Smith Hot Dogs, Sponge candy, pepperoni balls, Oakwood Reuben sandwich and Sara's right as you enter Presque Isle best summer spot for food and sunset..Thanks for visiting and sharing
Grew up on Oakwood St. It was scandalous! ❤😂
When you visit Erie you should try the Greek dogs and pepperoni balls.
Sara’s is so yummy!
This video popped up on my RUclips today. Living here, we sometimes forget what a great city we live in. No matter where you live, big city or small town, there are wonderful things to see and do. Come in the summer and explore the wineries and local festivals. Thanks for pointing out why we love Erie so much. Winter or summer, there is always something to see or do. Safe travels my friend.
All truths! 😊 I moved here from Chicago 11 years ago and haven't looked back! It would cost me $25 to park at Oak Street Beach for a couple of hours... Presque Isle is FREE! I was actually looking for where I was supposed to pay the first time I went 😂
I'm from Erie, Pa. Born, and raised here. You did a good job showing your video about Erie. Nice work.
I was born and raised in Erie Pa. Best place ever!

@@mar-yk9fbhmm….Here’s a suggestion of where you should! You can move to, near the lake, or around melrose ave, and skyline. I’ve seen amazing neighborhoods there.
Thank you for the great video of my home town! I now live in Pittsburgh, but grew up near Peak N Peek, lived in the City of Erie for 8 years, and always had a ski pass, and spent all my other free time at Presque Isle and Asbury Woods
Very cool! Was just at Presque Isle this year and it is completely frozen! I was born in Erie and moved back after 34 years of living in Dallas Texas and will never go back! Erie for life!
Thanks for checking us out. Glad you had a good time.
Shout out to all the other wonderful little eateries in Erie, PA too. There are lots of old school and hole in the wall restaurants with delicious food.

Wow. I come from Erie and I am glad that you liked it. The snow can get to you for sure though after awhile. Picking wings to eat was the right choice.
I lived in Erie from 1968 to 1978. I even witnessed while fishing down at the bay docks , The Edmund Fitzgerald ore tanker in the summer of 1975 , which later sank Nov. 1975 in lake Superior.
1970 to 78. Dad was born there. Best schools in the nation then. Loved the structure discipline and family life in Erie. Grandpa and Grandma had a great life there. They vacationed in Miami Beach and we moved to Florida in 79.
God bless.
Hi thanks for this video. I'm originally from Montreal but I've been living in Erie for 21 years. It's one of the coolest city I've ever lived and I lived in many cities.
I've lived here basically my whole life, but have also travelled a lot. We natives have a sad tendency to underappreciate Erie. It's a really nice place in many many ways!
Oh wow.
Grew up there. Best schools in America. Amazing place back in the day( 1970s). Glad you love it!🩷

I live in Erie, it’s not the greatest city just stay in the nice areas and you’ll be fine. I’m from the East Side and it’s not great at all. I recommend staying on the upper East Side and upper West Side and you should be fine :)
True👍
It's not even as bad as you think.... also he's just visiting (staying at hotels) not living in Erie, big difference!
@@charlesbass1044 yes it is I use to live on east side as a kid and we got broken into 2 times and my mom got punched and I got called the R-word. So I don't know how it can not be that bad.
Hi bestie another furry in Erie!!
@@charlesbass1044 The East side is horrific. I used to live there as a kid, and some guy hid a knife in our bushes. Then, there was one day where there was like some sort of fight that caused every hood member/smoker to come into the street and fight. It was terrible because they needed at least 12 police cars. We used to have yellow metal chairs that would stand on our porch and one guy took it to hit someone in the fight. My mom, being a Slav, simply walked out and took the chair from him. I'm not kidding. The East part of Erie is the literal definition of the Hood. Also, at least once a day, some car would come driving through the street rumbling the windows with how high the bass of their music is in their car. Then, there was also an incident on our street where a car flipped over because of some drunk driver. A girl was also run over on our street. I'm not sure if she's dead or not, but it was bad. There was also an incident where this underage girl took a car and with her siblings was driving down the street, and her little brother flew out the car because she was driving so fast. He died of course. There is so much I can say that it's crazy. Then, we had the occasional "friends" as children who would steal our bikes/scooters/soccer balls because their parents couldn't afford it for them. Thankfully, my cousin who saw them across the street went and yelled at them. I am telling you. It's bad there. And that's only our street.
Bruh, I literally cannot
Great Video! Erie really does have a lot to offer. As others have stated, Erie really comes alive in the summer, the weather is just phenomenal. If you love snow Erie also doesn't disappoint. We have very distinct seasons and the advantage of no natural disaster type weather.
Supposedly Erie is within 500 miles of 50% of the US population. Also Presque Isle state park has more visitors every year than Yellowstone.
Been here my whole life, I appreciate visiting other parts of the world, but I can't imagine living elsewhere.
I love your comments John! I've also lived here my whole and I love my city.
Im moving to erie soon what areas should i not move to?
@@mar-yk9fb Avoid what is called the lower east side. Broadly it is the area East of State Street and North of 26th Street. But the reality is the not great areas are in pockets of the city, parts of the area I described are actually quite nice. Anywhere in Millcreek or Harborcreek which are the two townships that surround the city directly are great places to be. Summit, McKean and Fairview townships are also great places and all are a very short drive from Erie proper. There are some good older neighborhoods in the city itself, Glenwood is the one that comes to mind. The area around Peach Street south of about 38th Street is also very nice and where many of the more affordable homes are. These are not hard and fast rules but it's pretty easy to figure out if an area is nice or not. Generally the areas where most houses are listed under $100k are not great parts of town.
@@johnpearson492 is the northeast area decent to move?
@@mar-yk9fb Absolutely, North East is a great area, very pretty and in grape country.
Thank you for making this nice video about my hometown.
Before this trip I had only been to big American cities like NYC and LA. So it was cool to experience life in a smaller city like Erie, and get more connected to nature. If you live in the USA can you recommend me some other smaller cities that are nice to visit?
Asheville north carolina of curse brother, see my uncle at the wnc farmers market 🍀
I am trying to think of things closer to Canada. Saratoga NY, the Berkshire area in MA, Gettysburg and Lancaster in PA, also State College PA, New Hope PA, of course the NJ beach, such as Cape May NJ is nice, I heard upper Michigan has a lot of cute towns from the old days, but I don't know the specifics. Burlington VT of course.

Santa Fe, NM...oldest capital in US...artistically and culturally incomparable...but quaint and similar to Mexico colonial towns..

In Erie poverty is rampant, I’m born and raised. It’s also one of the most unhappy places in the US if I remember correctly. People here are open and usually very nice thou, we aren’t afraid to help someone either if needed.
But visiting is great and I can recommend several mom and pop kinda restaurants. Along with little theaters. We have year round an event called Gallery Night, where galleries open for free. Also a motorcycle event that draws thousands of people to Erie each year.
So visiting is very good but living not so much 🤷♀️

Dan, this was really enjoyable! Do more of this kind of vlog. In fact, come to my city - St. Petersburg, Florida. But you'd have to spend at least a week!
Glad you enjoyed it Leland! Had a lot of fun filming this one. Any top activities to recommend in St. Petersburg?

St Pete is lovely.
Thank you for visiting Erie, PA!!
How long have you lived there?
Dan. Just watched your video on Erie. Erie has been home for many, many years so it was great to see your perspective, especially coming from a person hailing from such a great international city like Montreal. We have our issues here, but we're on our way up. Come back in a year or two and we'll be even better. Also your video was very nicely done. You have a good camera eye.
Enjoyed watching this!
He's like literally breaking ice along the lake for fun. I wish he strolled by E 25th and Parade, hit up the Mighty Fine Donuts instead of going to Peak and Peak in NY! Showing the good sides 😀

Erie is amazing. History is unique. Schools are best in the nation. Public schools.

I live just SW of Erie, 54 miles. I love visiting and there are so many fantastic places to eat. Sunsets on the Lake Erie side of Presque Isle ( you were on the Bay side) are outstanding, as well as combing for beach glass and fishing.
I enjoyed watching your video and going along with you on your adventures. I live about 45 minutes south Erie. I'm a Gramma so even though I live near Erie I am not able to ski/hike as much as I want, which is why it makes it so enjoyable to watch you do it. Sometimes people can't travel or do things because of physical disabilities but we can enjoy it through you. So thank you for that. One more thing, you should check out Letchworth State Park in New York. It has beautiful waterfalls in the woods. It's one of my favorite places to go.
I live in North East, up the road from Erie. On a clear day, you can actually see Long Point, Ontario. Lake Erie didn't freeze up much at all this year or last. Wasn't cold enough. When you are really seeing the lake, it is like seeing the ocean it is so big which is weird as it is one of the smaller Great Lake's.
In the summer go to the Gorge by Behrend, its lit
Hardly any lights out there lol but ok.

Oh, and two other attractions that Dan didn't pick up on: Waldameer Amusement Park/Water Park for the summer, and the Erie Philharmonic at the Warner Theater. The Erie Philharmonic is truly phenomenal, and the Warner, which just got renovated, is a gem as well.
Agreed!
I'm from London Ontario Canada. Thank for sharing your experience in Erie. I am planning my vacation for next year and where I want to go. And Pennsylvania is on my list Erie and Pittsburgh is two places I want to visit.
I lived in Erie for 6 years. 1980 to 1986. I need to go back there and visit some of my old stomping grounds.
You hardly made it into Presque isle :) . Should have shown the house boats or Misery bay. The Brig Niagra would have been in the dry dock during the winter, but it is also a very cool piece of American history originating in Erie.
I am a local resident of Erie, defiantly cool to see someone's else perspective of the city. P.S. even if he did mistake the bay for lake, is it really that big of a deal? The people commenting negatively about the bay issue that are from Erie, is that really how we want to show the attitude of the people of Erie to someone that has never been? If you want to correct someone, you can do it respectfully. Love the video!
Lol I noticed that too , I'm so picky about the nomenclature
i love erie! i lived there since i was a baby :)
You were looking at the bay and calling it the lake. Theres a giant body of water across the street from you.
😂 I literally just said, "that's the bay bro"
I noticed that too. A lot of visitors make that mistake.
@@scottsinnott2636 like, it's a GREAT lake......it's a LOT bigger than that! 😂
He did show a brief shot of the lake. In addition, of you drive around the peninsula in the winter, you will inevitably get a look at the lake at some point.
@@edstuff1198 I live in Erie. I know how PI works. But when people call the bay the lake *smh*
I grew up in Oswego NY on Lake Ontario. I moved to the southwest over 20 years ago. I’ve had the most extreme longing to move back East for the past few years. Somehow Erie popped up on my radar. I’ve been watching the real estate, weather, job market... I’ve never been but I have my heart set on moving here. The ‘germ’ ruined my plans to fly to Cleveland and drive from there to Buffalo, checking out the shoreline towns and cities. Can’t wait to get there.
I moved from Portland, oregon to Erie, PA. Almost 8 years ago. Best desision ever made. Not only is living cheaper (bought our 4 bedroom house in a good area for 76,000) but the special needs programs are amazing for my three children with Autism.

To answer the hunting question, given when you were here, likely duck or goose, out over the lake. Come here in November, we also have a 2 day deer hunt in parts of the state park. One my wife, daughter, son in law, and I make sure we never miss.
You should come down in the summer for a week or two. The park is nice to check out then, events all through the summer, including a national level bike meet, food truck festival, an a lot more, worth checking out.
One thing that drew us here, from NY, is there's always something to do here.
One other thing I'd mention about Erie from a tourist perspective: SEVERAL really good microbreweries. It's a great destination if you're a beer fiend. Erie Brewing Co 2 locations), Erie Aleworks, BrewErie, Black Monk Brewery, Voodoo Brewery, Nostrovia, The Lavery, Twisted Elk Brewery.
Hey bro, love the video. Onw thing that I would do is go more out towards a town called Waterford. There is a lot of history in Erie actually if you read on it. There is place that gives you a full tour of Ft Leboeuf from back in the Revolutionary War. There is also a hotel that President George Washington stayed in with the original bed sheets from that night. Just I thought I would let you know some more places in this area, since I am from Erie.
Ft Lebouef was the French and Indian War and George Washington was a representative of the British sent to parlay with the French, who were also laying claim to the same land.

I have lived many places but always come back to Erie. A small city of 250K that has the amenities of a city many times larger. There are so many things to do all four seasons. I absolutely live this town. Not to mention we ate under 2 hours from Buffalo, Cleveland and Pittsburgh!
Erie COUNTY has about 250,000, not the city. The city of Erie proper has only about 90,000 people, and the population of both the county and the city continue to shrink as people find greener grass elsewhere.
Thanks for showing "real" USA! Great video. The US has lots of interesting smaller places.
Thanks for visiting my city, I love my city. Erie pa
Erie is really 2 cities. There is winter, which is absolutely a a fine place if your enjoy winter activities. The summer however, is where we shine. The peninsula with it’s beaches with the good sand and plenty of other activities there. Also got the downtown nightlife, Waldemeer Park, shopping at Millcreek Mall, splash lagoon, the bay front and the amphitheater, baseball, and a bunch of downtown music acts each Tuesday night.
@FlyZers in the last 20 yrs, they really started to develop properties to create the city into more of a vacation spot. They got some of the best fresh water lake beaches. The nightlife is whatever you want it to be. Want it to be a place thats blasting music and is packed, then that’s available. Or maybe you want to get a good chair at a bar and meet new people? That’s very, very available. There’s some good gay bars that no joke, has some great food. The city has a good selection for all types of people so it’s really up to you. I like having having choices available to ya instead of every club with blaring music with water downed shooters.
@FlyZers look up state street and the the pier off off bayfront parkway. Put those two Into maps and that’s where you’ll see all the bars and restaurants and hotels. Then you have peach Street that has a lot of restaurants and a huge mall called the Millcreek Mall along with splash lagoon which is one of the biggest indoor water parks ever.
And you can’t forget the Presque Isle Beaches. Beaches six and 11 are the most popular and has the best sand in the park. There is something there to do for all ages.
I’m from Erie it’s a buitiful place you it’s cool to see a perspective from a tourists

I went to school in Erie. Inexpensive and nice in the summer. It has a lot of potential, meaning it really isn't that great rn.
That museum is cool . I really like it.
Impressive you chose to come here during the winter.
The state park is very nice for picnics, walking on the beach, and watching sunsets. Juniors is always fun for car shows, and Sara's is great for old school fast food. In recent years Erie has grown to embrace car and motorcycle culture with Buggin State and Roar on the Shore. And their classic tiny theme park is always fun just for people watching. I'm also a fan of how they have preserved many older buildings downtown. Very cool to see older buildings sharing city space with new infrastructure.
