    I would like to know whether TJ’s “fishing” time is included when calculating the number of hours spent on this. The reason I ask is because $25/hr sounds great but if that gets diluted after you factor in the unpaid “fishing”/searching time then it’s not got as good an hourly salary as it seems at first.

I use a specific credit card for all purchases related to my job. I then use TurboTax Home and Business and follow the step-by-step questions. I also make quarterly payments (most of the time). If you're organized, it only takes one day to gather everything and get my taxes done. How does this work with paying taxes? Do the companies give you a report of your earnings?

    • @AtelierTeale
      @AtelierTeale 6 месяцев назад +3

      Most do. You also need to maintain personal records, electronic or manual. It's amazing how many errors can exist on reported income.
      Be sure that your records correspond to the PAYMENT dates of the reporting company, which is how they report the required information. It may be reported PAID in a different quarter or calendar year than you RECEIVE it.
      You are responsible for reporting income, regardless of whether a company reports it or not.
      As others have noted, you also are responsible for both employer and employee FICA/Medicare taxes.
      Such fun! Not! :-) I have not considered any of these side hustles, but have worked as an Independent Contractor periodically and also have a small amount of royalty income from licensing some of my original artwork. My specialty is disappearing; companies can create artwork electronically much less expensively these days.

    Question!!! After watching this and several other videos that you have produced about this topic... I know that it's advised to have a separate email account for this type of income. But what about a separate phone number, pay pal account, bank account, .. and what about taxes? Is this considered 1099 work that you will have to pay those high 'self employement' taxes on?? So many questions... I want to do it but I want clarity before I jump in and create a mess first.

  • @lpmama1196
    @lpmama1196 6 месяцев назад +12

    The issue I have is with this type of work is that it's considered independent contractor. Therefore the employer does not pay social security taxes on on your behalf based on your wages. I was a notary signing agent and I found lots of work but at tax time I was paying 50% tax rate in my state. The money I made wasn't worth my time (and not to mention the wear & tear on my car.) Perhaps this is a better solution because there's no driving involved, yet the taxes are a bitter pill to swallow. Some may be willing trade the higher tax rate in order to have the flexibility.

    • @anniesshenanigans3815
      @anniesshenanigans3815 6 месяцев назад +1

    OMG, thank you SOOOO much for this! I bought the book a few years ago and stuck my toe in, wasn't consistent, didn't know where to begin and got overwhelmed quick and then gave up. I am gonna give it another go and make a plan, stay consistent and give it time. I really appreciate having an actual person with real world experience, sharing all this. So informative!

Not only am I hunting for a way to get OUT of my miserable job and edge my way into "early retirement" (i.e. NOT the drudgery paradigm) but I'm also looking for a way for my daughter to get out of her miserable job, stay at home with her preschooler, and be able to edge towards starting her own business while maintaining income. This is not as easy as she makes it sound. I joined dscout and have applied for both express and regular missions...like well over 100 of them. They ask quite a few questions, get a lot of free information, and then every single time, at some point, it ends up saying. "We're sorry, you are not a good fit for this mission" ....over and over and over again. They have now gotten tons of free information from me and quite a bit of my precious time and I have gotten zero.

    Thanks for sharing all of this, it sounds very interesting to me, but I have a few important questions. Is this something that I can do on my laptop, Will I always be required to having to be on a video, my only phone is a regular flip phone, no fancy stuff on it at all. Also, I can get myself a biz-like email, but why will it be getting filled up as your friend TJ had mentioned & will I be getting many phone calls with any of these 3 types of work@home types of jobs? Please answer these 5 questions here, that I consider highly important, ok, thank you very much.
