25 Years of the National Rail/Pacific National NR Class

- Love them or loathe them, September 2021 marks the 25th anniversary of the introduction to service of the ubiquitous GE powered CV40-9i NR Class, first introduced in 1996 for National Rail with 120 members built; numbers 1-60 at UGL Broadmeadow in NSW and 61-120 at Bassendean in Perth.
The class quickly became rather divisive amongst railfans due to their sheer numbers resulting in them being seen all over Australia's SG interstate network and pushing older EMD powered machines away from frontline interstate duties into lesser roles, or in the case of the C Classes and several BL's and DL's, an early retirement.
Despite that, the class became renowned for reliability and their excellently designed cab layout and twenty-five years after their introduction with untold millions of kilometres racked up crossing the continent from one end to another on a daily basis, they're still doing the jobs they were built for. With such a large sphere of operation, it's perhaps not surprising to note that several class members have been involved in severe incidents over the years, most of which were rebuilt (with a couple renumbered) while only one member of the class has been scrapped, that being NR33.
This video is a means of me marking that service, and features one clip of each class member from 1 to 121 each leading a train. Most clips are from around Victoria, however I've included a couple each from NSW and South Australia and even a couple of clips from my dad's film archives from the late 1990's. The only class members missing are NR3 (it's included as NR121), NR122 (a clip of it trailing is included) and for obvious reasons, the aforementioned NR33.
