Sorry to be so offtopic but does any of you know a method to get back into an instagram account? I stupidly forgot the account password. I love any assistance you can give me
As a professional soapmaker for the past 19 years, I wouldn’t dare sell a product or even give it away w/o a proper preservative system. I was a massage therapist for years and started making my own lotions/creams/oils to use on my clients and that turned into a full blown soaping business. I would never, ever sell anything to anyone w/o insurance. Thank you for touching on this subject so bluntly.
@@marie-zz5km that depends on many variables and the ingredients you are using. There are water in oil formulas and oil in water formulas. My 3 main go-to’s are Germal Plus, Optiphen Plus and phenonip.
Damn, 2yrs ago and this is still the best and most detailed video out there. So many homemade videos now, probably in the 200 + hrs and no one has made this that clear.

I see alot of youtubers making and selling products for the body and the labels don't have any ingredients or use by date. Thank you for this information I wonder if sales tax is being applied I know they include shipping but not sales all the time. The govt wants all the money they can rake in.
Im glad i seen this because first thing im thinking is how to keep it fresh until it even sell, as well ad the customers using at home. Im seeing how-to make but not all ingredients is being told
I appreciate you bringing these issues to your audience, thank you; at the same time, I would caution you to avoid giving legal advice without a license to do so. That, too, is risky business.
I make an amazing good foot scrub. But I won't or can't produce it unless it goes to a lab. I just make them for myself and friends. Here in Europe they very strict about it
That greatly depends on the type of preservative you're using and the exact ingredients and amounts of each within the recipe. I'd recommend doing some research on product formulations and safety recommendations.
In the UK we don't have FDA but we do have HMRC so I will check as what you are saying is consumer law and I have studied this subject but consumer law does change so definitely going to do some more research. Thanks 😊 👍
She is right I have been in hospital for infection of certain things that I have put on my skin 1 almost killed me 1 more day I would not be here typing this. She is very right. Take as you want that is my skin.
That will depend on your ingredients. A general rule is that if you use any water-based ingredient you will need a preservative, but there are some exceptions. It varies too widely to give a black & white answer here. You'll want to research respected recipes and appropriate proportions of each ingredient for safety.
Pretty sure you would still need to add preservative because it is used in the shower so after putting your hand in and out of the jar it would be contaminated with water. I just made and jarred so many scrubs and just found that out so now i have to remake them all😵💫
most salt scrubs are anhydrous so technically wouldn't need a preservative, but most people use use salt scrubs in the shower so they gather water and are susceptible to mold. So if it's something people are going to use near water, I'd put in a preservative.
What about a product such as egyptian magic cream? They state that there's no preservatives but all those bee derived products are renowned as natural preservatives and so many other characteristics
Okay so how would you know how much to charge customers for sales tax? Does that depend on your state and whatever percentage they require? Also do you need permission or a permit to sell in a different state if so how does that work and do you have to pay addition taxes for that?
Those still contain a preservative of some kind regardless of organic status, unless they're a single ingredient product or one made without any water of any kind, with a naturally long shelf life, like straight oils and butters.
There’s a lot of debate about the quality of essential oils that say “Do not ingest.” I think it has more to do with lot of companies not wanting to take the risk by not stating that on the label. Because even though natural...they aren’t all safe to ingest. Like wintergreen. And they are so concentrated so they can be toxic if not knowing exactly how much is safe for a specific oil
Everybody is so for chemical based preservatives! Make less product use less preservative this is why cancer is so rampant. Do drinking water need a preservative?
I cringe every time someone says you are required to use a preservative in all products. You don’t. I don’t use a preservative for my body butter. I educate my buyers about best practices since I don’t.
This was a great informative video! I do have an question pertaining to have physical address location on label. How do you go about that when creating products from home? Thanks in advance 😊
UPS and some others offer mailboxes that give your business a physical address instead of a PO box number. Although, to be honest, I've not looked at the minute details of this stuff for some time now, so I'm not sure of current specifics regarding that.
She is saying if you use a water base or some type of water in your products you need a preservative, period. And if you want a longer shelf life then you need a preservative.
Or even if the product doesn't contain water, but is exposed to water you need a preservative. If you're using the product in the shower, dipping your fingers into it daily, you will need a preservative. I learned this the hard way and ended up with a fungal infection on my armpit
From what I understand, ingredients have to be on the container, but the box is optional. Full disclosure, it's been quite a while since I've looked at the regulations, so be sure you do your research on this, as I'm not 100% certain.
I don’t use a preservative in my sugar scrubs. I make note to the customer to make sure they avoid introducing water into the product and to always dip the product out with a wooden spoon, not their fingers
It's a bit of a gray area, honestly. It's probably best to get things looked over by a legal pro to be sure you're staying within appropriate guidelines on claims.
I would look for a small business lawyer who specialize in product liability. You may be able to find someone locally to you depending on your area or get a tele-consult on the matter. I would get everything put together, your planned descriptions and name, labels, etc. and have them ready before the consult so you can present everything as is and they can give you feedback on any legal issues. You can also get recommendations on verbiage for any marketing and company presence docs.
Incredible how they always still want more, even after someone already paid taxes for the items he/she will use to make their business items. 😳 And the work the person goes through, sells them and now pay taxes again.
