Bought this exact model in the UK. Play as a desktop replacement via an external monitor... performance is simply awesome. Although its got a 12th gen chip, its the 'right' 12th gen chip and virtually identical to an i7-13700HX so CPU performance is strong. I swear I had to take headphones off because the depth of audio representation sounded like you were speaking on my shoulder and audio/typing from the latop was about an arms length infront of me... I don't understand why people get confused about the 1080p display first off its only 17 inch why do you need more. second with this style of laptop its kind of implied that you use a big monitor at your home, the built in display is just for when your on the go.
I've owned it for five days, I'm enjoying it a lot. The performance is excellent, I am amazed. Mine is equipped with a QHD+ screen which has very nice colors, but to play games I also connect it to my 4K monitor (Samsung Odyssey G7) which I find less beautiful as colors than the laptop monitor. And I still get fantastic performance even in 4K. I paid 2100 euros for it and in my country you cannot find any laptop at this price with an RTX4080. The only flaws are the absence of G-sync and only 16GB of RAM. In my old laptop I have Kingston Fury Impact DDR4. Which ones do I put in here? I really don't know how to choose. I wanna upgrade with 2x16GB
Interesting, this exact model in certain regions has a much better screen, 2560x1600 with 240 refresh rate, 100% DCI-P3 and 500 nit brightness, probably the best screen you can find on the market. I wonder if they downgraded the screen in your country so that other MSI products can compete?
Got this nice laptop 2 weeks ago (1600p screen variant), and it's much better than my previous Legion 5 Pro with ryzen 7. The i9 is always under 80C as opposed to the legion which was at 95C+ constantly until the vapor chamber "exploded" and killed the motherboard completely (I got my money back).
@Schnubbi81 I haven't played many AAA games, but the newest I played was The Crew Motorfest which just released. On 4k Highest settings and silent mode the game didn't drop from 60 fps (it has fps limiter which goes to 60 fps and you can't disable it). It's really good for the price - it was the cheapest 4080 laptop in my country, even the build quality feels very good.

If it is between the 4070 Legion and 4080 MSI, I'd definitely get the better gpu (CPU doesn't really make a difference between 12th and 13th gen i9). I currently still game on my older GT62VR 6RE Dominator Pro and I'm looking for a newer model. The only one that matches the old build quality is this new Vector. The only thing that isnt great is the power connector. As far as I can see the Vector uses this tiny USB-C power adapter..my old GT62VR has a very stable 4pin connector.
I have the 13700x Variant. Its quite good. The back was a little tricky to get off but I upgraded to crucial 32gb memory kit for 100 bucks and it worked like a charm with no issues. Ill be adding a 4 tb card as well, which looks relatively easy to do.

Have mine bought for only 1700 eu, It was an absolute steal, Even now no other laptop founded for the same performance at that price point. The 2 biggest cons for me are: the screen is not amazing it's only FH+ and colors look a bitt dull , the second thing is this thing is awfull loud I'm always gaming with the sound of the laptop and I need to buy an headset for this reason.
As 10 years old msi GT60 owner with a gtx 780m. It comes finally to change mine after a good service and a GPU replacement already. Quality was awesome everything works and it was possible to easy change graphic card or cpu. Not sure this one will be the same but anyway if it can last 10 years also i would be happy

most people that buythese expensive laptops almost always game on docked settings (meaning, connected to an external monitor) Personally? i prefer it has a 1080p screen, that means on the occasion that I want to take it out with me, I know pushing that 1080p screen will get me better results. 4k on a laptop is just plain stupid. A few questions I want answered: - does the type c port on the back support display port out through rtx gpu? (usb type c to dp adapter) - can you use a docking station with the display port on the back? - how good do the screen hinges feel? - does the screen wobble a lot when you type? or is it solid? - how far back does the screen go? - how many watts is the powersupply rated for? - how large is the powersupply? Other than that, this looks pretty good, CENTRALIZED touchpad (unlike lenovo's left handed touchpad) fullsized keyboard with numpad (i would have preferrred NOT to have a numpad, and just have everything centralized like asus does) you confirm it has good speakers,

with nvidia dsr you can run any game at 1440p with 144 hz refresh rate. I cant seem to find any quality difference between dsr 1440p and native 1440p. with the added refresh rate, i think is totally worth it.
idk if u still need this but it helped me, make sure your processor isnt on 100% decrease it to whatever you want to lower the heat (i personally decrease it to 65-70)
@@MedEss01 So go to control panel and then go to hardware and sound and then click edit power plan and then click advanced power plan settings a little pop up screen will appear scroll down till you find Processor power management and then click on the plus sign and then click on maximum processor state and make the percentages 70% (make sure your minimum is less) and then click ok/ apply

I bought this laptop 5 days ago. Mine has a QHD+ which looks very good, colors are amazing! I'm really happy with this laptop. The only downside is that it doesn't have G-sync. And I wish it had at least one more USB port
I also grabbed one of these and tried some advanced tweaking with it, a few things I don't particularly like is the fact I can't get the gpu to pull its full rated 175 watts even with the temperatures in check. Hits a wall at about 160 watts which I feel is leaving some performance on the table. Secondly I can't get the gpu to under volt worth a damn. Same issue with the cpu, seems to float 10 watts lower than what it should even though my cpu is only around 70 degrees. Lower clock speeds than it should be and it all seems to point at msi doing something funky with the power delivery in this unit. With the cooling on tap with this machine between the cpu and gpu it should be able to pull the full 230 rated watts msi has posted on their website.

@@polochris4697 Kind of. Updated the bios now the fans run at 4500rpm in balanced, 3000rpm in silent and 2700 rpm in maximum battery. Silent and maximum battery sometimes drop the CPU down to 800mhz so not really usable for gaming. The fans still ignore the custom fan profile under the extreme profile though. The idle speeds are also way too high so I have to switch profiles on the desktop.
@@Regenerator-zh6ju You updated the bios to the latest version? My bios is the 12 Dec version I think. Then you have to use one of the performance profiles in MSI Center because the fan curve in the Extreme profile is still ignored above 75c. You also need to go into the advanced bios and disable the CPU trip points. Spam Del while the laptop is booting, once in the bios hold right Ctrl + right shift + left Alt and press F2 to enter the advanced bios. Go to Advanced > Thermal Configuration > Platform Thermal Configuration and set Active Trip Points to [Disabled]. You can also enable passive trip point and set it to 95c for peace of mind if you like.

I have this laptop. It ran me around $1700 maybe a little more. It performs perfectly. I get upto 3000 fps on minecraft at 4k max settings. the only things i dont like about this laptop is that sometimes booting from a USB can be odd because it cant find storage drivers and that windows 10 doesent work properly. some of the needed drivers just dont work on windows 10 for some reason.
You are right about the booting. You need to download the storage drivers from their website and place them on the usb. I had to do this when reinstalling windows
@TechGuyBeau anything about the mic drivers? Because I install them and it recognizes the mic in device manager but on Discord and other stuff the mic just isn't there. Only on windows 10 tho

Playing helldivers on this laptop iv been experiencing frametime/fps drops every couple seconds down to around 10fps. Everything's up to date even tried reinstalling windows problem scroll persists.
Mine is a mess. I got the QHD+ screen version, which is a great screen. The problem is that my laptop stutters left and right, like crazy. Tried drivers, kinda everything except for undervolting. I'm selling it to get the Lenovo Pro 7

The ram will run at a max of 4800mhz. So just get 2x16 crucial 4800mhz sodimm SSD doesn’t really matter if you want a bulk drive check out some of my ssd reviews. I particularly appreciate the value of the mp34
Do you recommend this laptop in the end? I am mostly interested in playing flat games in VR, and a strong GPU is really necessary. So the monitor is not really a problem. Also, I don't think it's realistic to have a laptop with a 4080 and not be chunky. What is the cheapest alternative with a 4080? Thank you again!
@TechGuyBeau I have finally found the model with Fhd+. I am only concerned now with the MSI over boost. In the official MSI website, they talk about the 4080 running at 140W and with the boost at 165 (240 in total with the CPU). A 4080 shouldn't go at 175 maximum? Why only 165?
I found this laptop on sale £1899 atm. I have a rog strix g16 13980hx rtx4070 but the rtx 4070 very week already. How are the temps? Is the 1080p screen really a let down? I have 1200p on the rog. Cheers
The 4080 is vastly superior to a 4070. You won’t notice a difference between this screen and your ROG. Same exact res. This laptop does also come in QHD+ but it’s more expensive. Temperatures on this model are superb. Truly
@@TechGuyBeau nice! I use my rog with Dynamic super resolution. Which is render in 2560*1600 even the screen has lower res but image quality much better! Not sure is the intel 13650hx faster than the 12900hx The Msi has 12900hx The Asus rog strix 13650hx I’m sure both will be slower than my 13980hx but in 1600p resolution more gpu demand anyway.

I nearly can not hear any noise from this video, comparing to your legion videos, is that true(msi is really that silence?) or you just remove the noise when editing?
I don’t play with my audio at all. The legions are very quiet in balanced or silent. But noisy noisy performance. This msi is VERY loud on maximum performance, but it runs so cool on balanced you don’t need to use performance mode. The laptop is therefore very quiet

@@goodboy-zg3xo This depends, I see it as a high fps laptop first and foremost. 144Hz is not insane or anything but 144fps is where this thing would be with most AAA titles minus RT. Frankly, 1200p with this laptop makes this laptop one that would have a longer shelf life. The situation I am in now is that I have a 1080p 240Hz with a 2060. It is really showing its age right now but it lasted 3 years I believe before it could not really maintain 60fps.

It appears that MSI has simply disabled the use of XTU on this system. I've actually seen the BIOS setting on higher-end models (which use the same motherboard even) and on my Vector, the "XTU Interface" setting is non-existent. That's really crappy @MSI, because it's not like the customer is expecting low-tier components for 2 grand. In fact my Vector has the same mobo as the Raider, AND it has the i9-13950HX CPU. So if it has the same components as the high-end model... it's pretty shady to simply Software Disable a performance feature simply because MSI wants their Raider product line to stand out more. What?!!

Don’t buy Alienware Otherwise it’s up to you. The extra $400 is giving you a much better gpu on the msi over the asus. If you can afford it get that, otherwise the asus is still good
It has a 4080, which is this years model. The 4080 mobile didn’t even officially launch until February 2023. Lots of manufacturers pair previous Gen CPUs in brand new laptops with new GPUs. This is 100% a 2023 model

I agree that the audio is good, however good headsets are better. I use the Hyperx Sting and they totall mute the loud fan noise when gaming.

This takes ddr5. So look for 4800mhz ddr5 memory (sodimm)

Yeah the Jump to a 4080 can double the price
12900hx model can sometimes hit 119 C and shut down because of unlimited turbo so that is a huge problem for longevity.

From what I've heard the GPU hits it's voltage limit before getting to 175w even with good temps.
I connected the PC to a 4K monitor and with Baldur's gate 3 the GPU and CPU temperature increased to 90 degrees centigrade, why?

Silent and maximum battery sometimes drop the CPU down to 800mhz so not really usable for gaming. The fans still ignore the custom fan profile under the extreme profile though. The idle speeds are also way too high so I have to switch profiles on the desktop.
@@Regenerator-zh6ju You updated the bios to the latest version? My bios is the 12 Dec version I think. Then you have to use one of the performance profiles in MSI Center because the fan curve in the Extreme profile is still ignored above 75c. You also need to go into the advanced bios and disable the CPU trip points. Spam Del while the laptop is booting, once in the bios hold right Ctrl + right shift + left Alt and press F2 to enter the advanced bios. Go to Advanced > Thermal Configuration > Platform Thermal Configuration and set Active Trip Points to [Disabled]. You can also enable passive trip point and set it to 95c for peace of mind if you like.

I have this laptop. It ran me around $1700 maybe a little more. It performs perfectly. I get upto 3000 fps on minecraft at 4k max settings. the only things i dont like about this laptop is that sometimes booting from a USB can be odd because it cant find storage drivers and that windows 10 doesent work properly. some of the needed drivers just dont work on windows 10 for some reason.
You are right about the booting. You need to download the storage drivers from their website and place them on the usb. I had to do this when reinstalling windows

Playing helldivers on this laptop iv been experiencing frametime/fps drops every couple seconds down to around 10fps. Everything's up to date even tried reinstalling windows problem scroll persists.
Mine is a mess. I got the QHD+ screen version, which is a great screen. The problem is that my laptop stutters left and right, like crazy. Tried drivers, kinda everything except for undervolting.

The ram will run at a max of 4800mhz. So just get 2x16 crucial 4800mhz sodimm

@TechGuyBeau I have finally found the model with Fhd+. I am only concerned now with the MSI over boost. In the official MSI website, they talk about the 4080 running at 140W and with the boost at 165 (240 in total with the CPU). A 4080 shouldn't go at 175 maximum? Why only 165?

The 4080 is vastly superior to a 4070. You won’t notice a difference between this screen and your ROG. Same exact res.
This laptop does also come in QHD+ but it’s more expensive.

I don’t play with my audio at all. The legions are very quiet in balanced or silent. But noisy noisy performance.
This msi is VERY loud on maximum performance, but it runs so cool on balanced you don’t need to use performance mode. The laptop is therefore very quiet

@@goodboy-zg3xo This depends, I see it as a high fps laptop first and foremost. 144Hz is not insane or anything but 144fps is where this thing would be with most AAA titles minus RT. Frankly, 1200p with this laptop makes this laptop one that would have a longer shelf life. The situation I am in now is that I have a 1080p 240Hz with a 2060. It is really showing its age right now but it lasted 3 years I believe before it could not really maintain 60fps.

It appears that MSI has simply disabled the use of XTU on this system. I've actually seen the BIOS setting on higher-end models (which use the same motherboard even) and on my Vector, the "XTU Interface" setting is non-existent. That's really crappy @MSI, because it's not like the customer is expecting low-tier components for 2 grand. In fact my Vector has the same mobo as the Raider, AND it has the i9-13950HX CPU. So if it has the same components as the high-end model... it's pretty shady to simply Software Disable a performance feature simply because MSI wants their Raider product line to stand out more. What?!!
but this does raise some interesting questions about the possibility of flashing an equivalent Raider BIOS to a Vector. Hmm...
