So fascinating to stumble upon such an old video... but the script and review is honestly still high quality. I have gone balls-deep on DDR and IIDX and I think people are gonna start to think I'm insane if I make a Pop n' ASC too but I just might because of this... lol.
Same. I just got into pop'n music with a premade djdao controller and I'm shocked that fucking jew wario from over a decade ago still has one of the most approachable and well researched videos on english youtube. If I ever get decent at the game I'll try to make a guide for new players that'd be sweet. Rest in peace jew wario.
Funny enough for Beat n' Groove, they could've just used Mary and Judy since they were also OG Pop'n characters and were advertised more than Nyami and Mimi back then. Hell, they even end in the same syllable as Nyami and Mimi.
still one of my most favourite game series ever! The sad thing is, that konami stoped making console versions :/ and no overseas releases (no there arent such things as Pop'n rythm or "the-game-you-should-not-mention") I was surprised of the Pop'n Portable versions. Both were great. But thanks to the interwebs I can play Arcade Versions at home (Fantasia
Loved the review one of my faves so far and not just because you accepted my request. You hit the nail on the head with beat n groovy, man that game could of been better. Anyway, keep up the awesome stuff man.
By the way, for the people who actually want short and precise reviews for each game, just simply skip the entire video until roughly the last 2 minutes and 30 seconds, because at the end of his videos he does a good summary of his review of the game.
Good old Pop'n Music. Another great review of a series that just doesn't get the love and respect here in the States. I'm hoping that with the advent of music games such as Guitar Hero and Rock Band, enthusiasts who want a challenge will seek out these titles. I would be interested to see how some of the best RG and GH players would fare in the harder modes of Pop'n Music. I imagine not too well.
Was it? I only remember the first Beatmania CS being released outside of Japan... then again, I'm not really up to date on that, and importing is an annoyance over here in Europe
8's my favorite of the CS games! I just... love the character and song roster so much. My favorite character is Really (and my favorite song, PSYCHE - L.A.N)
Beat n groovy is crappier than Pop'n Music because They didn't have cute cat and bunny mains. I'd rather play Pop'n music to see them instead of the knock-off. Imagine if Nyami and Mimi reviewed the horrible knocked-off game.
You forgot to mention that there were 3 or 4 Pop'n Music games on the Game Boy Color that were pretty nice even with the music being...well...you know.
Hmm, I have a little suggestion for you. Do you know Nintendo's bit Generations serie that's only released for GBA in Japan? They are simple, easy and fun to play and I really want to see them in your show.
I think I prefer the DJ Max series over this series, but that's just my personal preference. (and the fact they are localized in North America, faithfully :P) Great review though, I'll be sure to give the series a second chance in the near future. ^^
I have a swap magic dvd version 3.3, with my chipped slim ps2, but it stopped working long ago, as it only appears with the disc menu instead of the swap magic menu. Can you suggest where to buy a new copy or any alternatives to swap magic?
I did make the mistake of purchasing Beat'n Groovy. I was hoping that there would be more songs, or at the very least the ability to download them via xbox live microtransaction. I currently regret that purchase, especially since this vid.
Ah Pop'n, I wish I had a way of playing it... but seeing how you did Pop'n, how about Beatmania IIDX at some point? :) Another suggestion that would be interesting to see would be the Picross games for SNES and Gameboy (maybe NES, too, not sure) Keep up the good work
Hey, I just discovered your videos and they are pretty awesome. I was just wondering if this was the same game series that kid was playing in the background of an arcade in that "Lost in Translation" movie with Bill Murry. I know its a random question but I saw a simularity between the controllers being used. Just wondering.
I was going to say at the start you shouldn't listen to what other simple minded people say, but you seem to have that notion all by yourself :) great job, great burn, and keep the always helpful and funny information coming.
Every time I see that ASC, I keep going back to my full size Rock Band 3 guitar and how when I asked you to sign it, you thought it was the real deal. Do you know if Channel Awesome will be doing the Rock Band 3 event again? If so, I can donate my Xbox again so more songs will be available. After all, 900+ songs provide more entertainment than the usual 85 that are on disc.
Have you ever played the PSP versions of the game? If so, what is your opinion on them? I don't think I have my PS2 anymore, so getting my hands on that version of any of the games would be rather pointless until I locate my console... So currently, the only console I have to play it on is my PSP (I'd say I have a Wii but Wii is region locked as far as I'm aware...?)
Hmm, I should really consider trying some music games. Certainly, this video has helped to pique my interest in something I've not really had much interest in.
11 years late... but if you buy the 100mm buttons + encoder off Aliexpress and make it yourself out of MDF or plywood it's not bad ;) probably $100 or less.
he shot himself while he was sitting on the toliet and his wife was on the other side of the door seconds later he blew his brains out and ambulances and police arivved minutes later

His reviews were the perfect length.

I wish the series had more console CS releases though Lively is good for a PC release, and I wish more games released overseas.

You hit the nail on the head with beat n groovy, man that game could of been better.
Anyway, keep up the awesome stuff man.
You're one of the better game reviewers out there man. I'm very impressed with your videos. Love the show!
PS: Love the intro. Awesome!
I agree that Dream Pafe is one of the best song in Pop'n music 11 CS. Along with Days that is.
By the way, for the people who actually want short and precise reviews for each game, just simply skip the entire video until roughly the last 2 minutes and 30 seconds, because at the end of his videos he does a good summary of his review of the game.
Oh,come on. 13 is awesome.
Excellent KOs and licenses.
You should do another video with a follow up to your Retro Game Challenge with the Japanese sequel. Game Center CX 2: Arino no Chousenjou.
Have you seen the newer games? There's a LOT of new songs and the art for the game is looking a lot better than it used to!
when he couldn't say beat n' groovy it was priceless.
Lol, the first part reminded me of "Sprockets" from SNL. Great videos man.
3:36 with the stuff he did, this did not age well.
Nothing involving him aged well sadly.

What was the point of the swedish at the beginning?

I will agree.
IIDX was done in the US. ;)

The link in the description is broken. Got another link?
I would love to see you review Binary Land for Famicom, that would be sweet. Love the videos though, look forward to the next one.
cool. looks like a fun game

I have a question: If I import a Japanese PS2 Pop'n Music,will I be able to play it in an American PS2?
will need a swap disk or modchip
in the opening i would have just called them sheep
09:27 the birth of the warion
Swedish and Japanese? Damn.
Are there any other languages you've pick up over the years?
I bought beat n groovy qq noone else does it seems. Found pop n music a lot more challangeing and funner but i want beat n groovy ;-;
haha hallerius... im from sweden and me and all my friends laughed really hard to the intro xD
yup.
It's because the games and controllers got retired recently, so people are jacking the prices up.
>Not liking Beat 'n' groovy because of character replacing and/or song list
*rolls eyes*
@MrKite1996 Nyami

Even more of a failed version because it boasted 9 difficulty levels and DLC, and only went up to 3 difficulty levels and no DLC whatsoever.
WHY NOT USE MARY AND JUDY GOD THIS HURTS TO WATCH
