- It was finaly time to do the long waited project of upgrading the batterycapacity or electric range of the plug in hybrid Volvo V60 D6. This is version one and the bms was not yet installed. It is on its way!
Now its time to start tweeking the setup and see if we can squize more range out of it!

They are cheap now. I’m buying one this year. Lets hope we get more energy dense batteries soon then upgrading will be very useful. ❤

It's a shame Volvo didn't make the V70 range into hybrids like this - I think the extra boot space would have been a better option in terms of compromise, but they killed off the range over the V90 instead 😔
Yes! I prefered the V70 as aplug in hybrid! To bad you can't buy it :(
PHEV are available for the current V90 and V60 two.
@@DROHNENDANIEL unfortunately they're still a bit too new to fit into my budget - give it 5 years and maybe, but at the moment Volvo estates seem to be retaining value, in some cases far higher than I would expect - also neither seem to have the same capacity as the V70 did...

Would it be possible at some point to swap the front diesel engine and put in its place another electric engine and/or battery pack ? What do you think about this possibility? Thank you
The car is to heavy for long term use with only the electric motor. As a work commuter if its not to far, then yes. But that would cost just way to much money. You also need to reprogram every computer or trick it thinking the engine is still there. Its better to buy a bare car and then convert it to electric with a leaf motor swap. Easy and cheap.

The bms is for the extender battery. It is in parallel with the hybrid battery and operates on its own. If you ad cells in parallel with the cells, the bms would not allow more disscharged capacity the programmed, so you would only gain like maybe 5km of range because of the degeadation. You need a battery that suply power that does not go trough the current sensor of the hybrid battery.

The main current sensor for car is before or after new batt pack connection?
In that case, I think that you need 2 identical batt packs ( original volvo and new additional batt ) because batteries will not be drained and charging in the same way…and its not good for safety…

It is possible to replace 1 of the 10 intern modules. Unfortanaly, I do not have those modules on stock, so I can't provide that service. The extender battery exist of 8 standard modules and 1 modified module. If a part of the extender fails, that I can replace.
What is the fuel consumption on diesel alone without using the electric motor?
Long driving on highway is around 5.5l/100km. If you drive it economical it can go lower. To 4l/100km. If you drive crazy, it goes up to 10l/100km.
Hi, how to disconnect HV battery to make repairs on engine(belt drive) ? Or is it enough to disconnect the 12V battery? What's the right procedure?
If you lay the rear driver seat down. There is an rubber flap that you can fold. Untherneat that is the high voltage service disconnect. Open all doors and trunc. Disconnet 12V then the high voltage.

I love the car. If the AC is fixed, its a realy nice car to drive.

@@JF-nk9kh don't have a write up. Its a dangerous job. 400V DC kills! So its only for people who knows what they are doing and having the right tools for it.
Hi thanks for posting the video. I want to upgrade the range of my XC90 T8 2017. Can this be done by replacing the current battery (10.4kW) with the new extended range (18.8kW)?
If you know a garage that wants to program the new battery id in to the system so the car accepts the new battery as the original battery, then it probably works. But no idea if it truely can work.

Hallo, wij hebben ook een D6. Maar onze hybride batterij is slechter aan het worden. Heb jij tips voor ons? We willen eigenlijk nog geen afscheid nemen van deze auto.
Indien de accu te slecht is, kan je deze altijd laten reviseren voor een paar duizend euro. En dan heb je een zo goed als nieuwe accu. Hoeveel km zegt de boordcomputer dat u kan rijden en hoeveel kan u echt rijden?
bc zegt nu 25km en werkelijk maximaal 10 a 15km @@RCtrialTim
@@michelmiddag603 ik zou stilaan gaan zoeken naar een revisie accu in Nederland. Daar zijn een aantal bedrijven die die accu's reviseren.

I have heard of some horror stories happening to some owners
There are problems with the newer versions of the hybrid version. The diesel version has had a problem with the acpump. They used a wrong ac oil that compromised the insulation of the pump. When flushing the system and drying and replacing the condensor. Its a permanent fix. The charger can also go bad on a high milage/lot of charged car. But that is fixable for a good price in a non Volvo dealer shop.
@@RCtrialTim So what you are saying is that. Even if I get a Volvo V60 D6 with some problems, is it not that expensive to repair using non-volvo workshops?

There are 2 orange cables between the battery and the inverter. What is the voltage who cross through them and what kind AC or DC? Thanks!
The bottom left are the high Voltage cables from the battery. Its DC, ranging from 320V to 410V.

Fully charged is 412V. Empty is around 350V resting Voltage. It can sag down to 320V under load.
good day, interesting that this is posibel. my V60 battery just died. and was wondering of it is posibel to fix a few sells? does anyone have experience whit this? can they be replaced? it looks that the batteries are specific to Volvo. but buy a second hand on ate Volvo cost 5200 :( any advice?
There are companies that rebuild batteries. Dont go to Volvo for fixing. I only do the range extender.

Hi, i bought that V60 battery few month ago of 350€. There was a two modules a little worse. And two cells inside a module a little lower. I modify those.. because a module is 10s2p, now i have one 10s1p. And all is now in parallel, so capacity is now 9 1/2 of original. I use that 40v modules in summer house project🤗

Hello, I don't speek Portugese. The single extender cost 3500€ installed. The double extender cost 6000€ installed.
Temos uma v60 que comprámos à 3 meses, mas apenas conseguimos percorrer 15km movido a eletricidade sem AC ou bancos aquecidos numa velocidade máxima de 65 km/h. Precisamos de mais autonomia, foi nesse sentido que adquirimos a viatura. Ajude por favor.

@@raqueldasilva1589 de certeza que não tinham "martelado" os quilómetros? Por vezes nas importadas, vêm como tendo 150 mil e na realidade tem quase o dobro. Eu tenho uma de 2016 com 130.000 e apesar de não fazer os 45 ou 50 anunciados originais, se andar dentro dos limites e sem ar condicionado ou bancos aquecidos ainda faz mais de 30.

@@quavohuncho6156 Yes, its possible to bring over the car. Single extender is 3500€. Installation is 2 days if orderd on time. (Preparation time) Double extender is 6000€.
@@RCtrialTim what is the difference between single extension and double extension? how many km do you earn with each one?
@@Ksk199 the single extender makes that you can drive between 90 and 100km if you can drive between 30 and 40km with original battery. It adds around 60km range. The double extender gives you between 150 and 165km range. I don't like the double extender as you loose almost all bootspace and you need a suspension upgrade. It handles less good as the rear is a lot more heavy then the front. With the single extender you can still drive sporty. With the double extender you need to be a bit more gentle.
Shame the V40 was never made into a hybrid! (Not a fan of current gen Volvo)
