Hi, my bet is that there has been a manufacture fault either in the cell corner or cooling plate such us a burr or both and when pressed together it has created or made existing fault bigger leading to failure, either shortly after manufacture and use or by time as cell is swelling.
Hi, I have a problem with my V60 MY 2020 plugin hybrid. The battery do not charching and turtle appears while driving, reducing power and switch out the EV battery. I'm waiting for maintenance now, diagnostic result are shown the foult code: Hybrid/EV battery cell balancing circuit E range/performance.
Hi, I am a about to purchase a Volvo 2024 xc90 t8 ultimate recharge,is this a good buy regarding the issues I see here in this video,I am asking because I don’t have experience with plug and hybrid systems
How reliable are volvos hybrid outside manufacturer warranty? Worth considering a 5 year second hand? Or for someone who is trying to save some money may risk losing more on expensive repair?
Buying a used car without any document about the battery's condition is a gamble. If you want certainty, you need to have a diagnostic report on the battery's condition. You need to consider what the manufacturer guarantees, which is 8 years / 150,000 kilometers.
Hi, great video. i enjoyed it immensely. I have a Volvo XC90 T8 2017 model with the 10.4kw/h battery and i would like to replace it with the 2021/22 18.4kw/h battery removed from a salvage car. Is this possible? And if yes can the electric motor also be upgraded with the new 2021/22 one?
How to determines if my XC90 2016 has a big battery or 48V battery? All PHEV has big battery like yours or 48V ones? Thanks Btw did you get replacement pocket for your battery unit?
If we're talking about PHEV batteries, most of them will have a higher voltage than 48V. I'm not aware of any vehicle with such a small plug-in hybrid battery.
It is hard for me to believe that someone bought an expensive car and doesn't know what what type of battery it has. 😲 If it has a charging port, then it has a big battery.
@@mcells_batteries thanks, now is simple, xc90 with side door are PHEV. It was hard to remove the battery from the car? Of course you have to drop of the exhaust for that. Whats about the plugs or coolant, is there any way to drain it prior removal? Also does the new battery need to be reprogrammed? Does battery from newer models like 2017-18 will work on 2016 XC90 T8's? Same with the ERAD - I need to replace it - does it require any initialization/ programming?
Good to know the car is built so the battery can be easily removed. Maybe it might be possible to upgrade with improved technology battery in the future?
I don't think there's room for any upgrade here. If the battery fails, you simply need to replace the module. I'd leave upgrades to the car manufacturer. :)
PHEV batteries make hybrid cars less safe than combustion cars. Studies do show that a hybrid car is twice as likely to explode as a car of the same combustion model. Volvo's adherence to ESG guidelines today takes away the freedom to choose a 100% combustion xc90 model with no PHEV battery type. Better to buy used models without batteries or believe that the 2024/2025 model is still the safest car in the world even with the PHEV battery? There is even one case of PHEV batteries in a Volvo Xc90 self-exploding inside the garage with no apparent reason.
I wouldn’t worry about the latest models. They have years of experience, and the chance of something like that happening is very small-like getting hit by lightning. By the way, Volvo is known as one of the safest cars for other reasons. I don’t think battery safety is included in these ratings.
Hi, sure but all battery types has positive sides and negative sides. Pouch cells have better heat dissipation space using, current. But yes, they are swelling and is there higher chance to runaway.
Nice! Hugs from Brazil 👊

Hi, there is only one option here and that is to dismantle the battery and check it. There's a high chance you have the same problem as in the video.
Could car still be driven with ICE engine when battery is switched out?
Yes.

Super!!😮🤌🏻🔥 good job

How did you get that thing out of the car ?
Hi, another service took the battery out of the car, they brought us only the battery itself.
@@mcells_batteries thanks for the reply, any Idea how they took it out ? From the interior or the exterior ?
You are welcome. The battery can only be removed from the outside. Lift the car and remove the bolts.
@@mcells_batteries Oh I see, thank you.

Hi, thank you for your appreciation. I will probably disappoint you, but most likely neither the battery nor the motor will be compatible.
Why?
Hi, I want to do exactly the same with a V60, did you made progress on this topic?

How do I purchase one of these Modules ?
Any updated, I need to buy modules for mine XC90 too.
Search on Ebay, they are difficult to get.

Pouch cells should no longer be used. They are cheaper to manufacturer but have consequences as shown in this video.
