    Indeed , i prefer an exoplanet with seasons rather than an exoplanet tidally locked , hopefully the ESPRESSO spectrograph helps to confirm the existance of Tau Ceti e

    One issue I see is that we cannot now or likely in the near future we get data on exoplanet atmospheres on a smaller scale than a whole planet. If their seasons are anything like earth's, that means that the effect will be much diminished because we don't compare summer to winter, but the average of summer and winter to the average of spring and autumn.

    If we only get to study the composition of exo-atmospheres when an exoplanet is passing between us and its star,
    it could be really impossible to study them at different exo-seasons, since we only ever see them at the same point in their year.

    Excellent material .This is my kind of channel with a mix of what I'm interested in and done so in a rational scientific way but not the rigid dogmatic scientific manner I've seen before on other channels . I saw a recommendation for this channel by someone who was visiting Secure Team 10 .The commentor said she recommended this channel of yours . Glad I checked into the suggestion ! 👍
    I had thought that the James Webb telescope was supposed to be launched this year ? What gives ? Now it's scheduled for May 2020 ? Of course I'd rather they get any and all bugs worked out before launching considering the fact that it costs 10 billion dollars and we won't exactly be able to make a repair mission possible for quite some time in the future if ever considering the fact that we spend way less on space exploration than our national defense . I just want to see what it discovers and I'm anxious to see it launched ,but better safe than sorry I guess. I know that even after it gets launched we'll still have to wait for quite awhile while it gets into position and goes through all the diagnostic tests and unfurls its equipment . That's going to be a stressful time for the whole team for sure .Anyway I subbed and look forward to seeing more of the videos you have.

      Welcome aboard! Yeah, the JWST delays are maddening, we've all been waiting for that telescope for years. I'll just be glad when it's in orbit, and functioning. Until then, I'm figuratively holding my breath.

    @John Michael Godier -- Can you make a longer video speculating (educated guesses, real possibilities, any thoughts) on the reasons for the possibly even accelerating expansion of the Universe? Possible involvement of Dark energy, a new Universe growing somewhere in our Universe? Collisions with an "adjacent" universe etc.

    Haven't checked out the paper but it would seem like the planet would need to have an asymmetry between the land masses in the northern and southern hemispheres (like Earth has) in order to detect seasonal variation in the overall photosynthetic output of the planet.

    You know this makes me think. Science fiction always assumes no matter how weird the creatures on an alien planet get that we will see relatively normal plant life. At most it can be different colors, maybe has weird looking leaves, flowers, or something like that but we assume the flora of a planet to look and function much like earth plants. This is probably because it is harder to imagine an ecosystem with a radically different base then it is to make small changes to the top end of the food chain. But it makes me think, what other forms could xenoflora take? hmmm...

    The problem is, we may have already seen biosignatures in the atmospheric chemistry of Mars and Venus. Those signals are ambiguous. I suspect we will find several ambiguous signals from exoplanets when we have the technology to see them. The question is, will we ever see any unambiguous signals?

    Any second grader with a crayon can tell you that intelligent alien life is all bipedal, mammalian, and speaks English. Most Planetary anthropologists, up until June of 1997, agreed with them and wrote thousands of books that were bought that were read by millions of people. It was a good system of belief that kept everyone happy and feeling safe. Now people like you come along and start changing things and making people uneasy. Turn your attention to something worthwhile, like weapons development, and stop upsetting people. Belief is more important than truth.

    Where is the James Webb telescope when you need it. It should have launched in 2014, now what is the delay, more money?

    • @edd8914
      @edd8914 6 лет назад

      The James Webb telescope failed some safety tests a year ago indicating that it would break if it deployed. So they need more time to make it work right. I share your frustration, but it's better to be late and do it right than to rush things and have the whole thing fail.
