  • Some Palestinians embark on a journey to discover the fate of the houses taken from their families in the 1948 Nakba.
Meet some of the Palestinians who have returned to the homes of their parents and grandparents, now in present-day Israel.
Halima Khaddash is an old woman living in a refugee camp in Ramallah whose family is from Ramla. She travels to the place, which brings back memories of being forced from the family home during the 1948 Nakba, the catastrophe.
Zeina Abu Meita’s family was originally from the Mediterranean port city of Acre. She makes a bittersweet visit to Acre with her father who was forced from the family home when he was six. Zeina and her father have Canadian passports. So, as foreigners, they are allowed to visit Israel. But they don’t have any rights of residency or permanent return.
The film Return to Palestine explores the idea of The Right of Return on the 76th anniversary of the Nakba, which refers to the ethnic cleansing of Palestine and the near-total erasure of Palestinian society.

I want to see Kudna , where my father was raised. I want to see my mom's house that still stands in Nablus. We are all not allowed to return, but all of our hearts are still in Palestine. I've never been there but my dreams take me there & I feel like we never left because we hold it so near to our hearts. We will all return, one day.

"There has never been a land known as Palestine governed by Palestinians. Palestinians are Arabs indistinguishable from Jordanians (another recent invention), Syrians, Iraqis etc. Keep in mind that the Arabs control 99.9 per cent of the Middle East lands. Israel represents one tenth of one per cent. But that is too much for the Arabs. They want it all. And that is ultimately what the fighting in Israel is about today...no matter how many land concessions the Israelis make, it will never be enough". (Arab writer and historian Joseph Farah in his book Myths of the Middle East October 2000.)
Hamas Minister of the Interior and of National Security Fathi Hammad, aired by Al-Hekma TV on March 23, 2012. Stated.....
.....we all have Arab roots, and every Palestinian, in Gaza and throughout Palestine, can prove his Arab roots - whether from Saudi Arabia, from Yemen, or anywhere. We have blood ties. Personally, half my family is Egyptian. We are all like that. More than 30 families in the Gaza Strip are called Al-Masri ["Egyptian"]. Brothers, half of the Palestinians are Egyptians and the other half are Saudis. Who are the Palestinians? We have many families called Al-Masri, whose roots are Egyptian. Egyptian! They may be from Alexandria, from Cairo, from Dumietta, from the North, from Aswan, from Upper Egypt. We are Egyptians. We are Arabs.
"We [Palestinians] were never an independent state in history, we were part
of an Arab state and an Islamic state.” -- Palestinian Hamas Foreign Minister
Mahmoud Zahhar (quoted in The Economist, February 2, 2008)

This was so beautiful ... to see the joy of the reuniting of people with their land and their families. I can see how closely knit they were as families & neighbours, where families lived together for generations. I left Australia & lived in Penang for 3 years when I was a child, aged 7 top 10yrs so I didn't get to know my grandparents who passed away when we were o'seas, then I lived in the UK for 5 years ... but each time I was away from 'home' I yearned to return ... & I'd not been forced off my homeland, and was able to return, so I can't even conceive of the excruciating pain that these beautiful warm, welcoming people experience. My return home both as a child was wonderful, but words couldn't describe my feelings of my return as an adult, to smell the gum trees & the koalas in the bushland, the smell of the ocean & the beauty of the sand & the beaches ... & the ocean. Nothing can ever make up for 'home' ... no matter if it was a palace, I couldn't leave my country again. I Loved seeing this lady collect her soil & grow her mint in it ... I totally relate to that because I used to wish that I'd taken soil, sand & sea water o'seas with me, even though I cried salty tears every night for 5 years. This man is doing a beautiful thing to repatriate these people with their families & their land. It's just a criminal act to allow their homes to be derelict when the owners so want to live there.

The day of return is near. 70 years in, the determination and desire of return is still alive. it won't die until Palestinians find their way back to their hometowns where they truly belong. Palestine will be free Insha-Allah

This is a very good document from a technical perspective!
Also, my family has a similar situation because they lived before IIWW in what is now Ukraine (then it was eastern Poland). After the massacres of the Polish population, they had to escape because they were thrown out of there. Today, in the place of this village there is only a meadow. There is not even any sign that people lived here and suffered so much. Before she died, my great-grandmother wanted soil in a bag from this place :(
I feel so sorry for these people... Everything was taken away from them.....
    Pray for Palestinianians 🇵🇸

As I watched this I was thinking about the Palestinian family I met on the march in DC. In January. The mother was worried about her sister’s family in Gaza and having to move because of the bombs. I wondered if they were ok. Such a lovely family.
