Ya, the prices are 1 of the 2 reasons I do not own a Sebenza. the main reason I don't own 1 is because I hate hollow ground blades. if they would do any with a flat ground blade I'd own a Sebenza but hollow grinds are a no go for me.

Essentially, anything where the point is below the mid-line of the pivot pin (on folding blades, anyway), but the blade isn't completely flat (wharncliffe, sheepsfoot, lambsfoot) could be considered a "modified sheepsfoot". It would be nice if a search for "modified wharncliffe" gives you the option of dropping into this section, too.

Happy New Year DCA, Seth and Thomas! That Sebenza price is just a no-go for me. In theory the leaf will be just a bit thicker along the spine, making for a stronger blade. I say in theory because most Spyderco blade are ground pretty thin and without a tough tool steel blade don't make for very good pry bars
im not a collector but i want a really gud knife, i have been carrying a case xx sod buster jr forever and like the size shape etc. is there something like it with a better steel that will get sharper and keep its edge $400 top out
Hey DCA. been wanting to invest in a Spyderco Para 2 for a while now but in all honesty, I'm not sure what to go with. out of all the different models which one will give the best performance/edge retention? I honestly don't care about what scales are on it because they will be changed out to zircu-ti so I mainly care only about the blades' performance/edge retention. with all the different blade steels out there right now I'm not sure if the S90v would be best or what. I have a lot of experience with M390 and Cpm-20cv and love them both but don't think Spyderco makes a Para 2 with either of those 2 steels but I could be wrong. any info you or anyone else here can give me on best edge retention steel for the Para 2 will be greatly appreciated. Thanks and Happy New Year to all.
Currently, the Paramilitary 2 with the best edge retention would by far be the Maxamet and grey g10. As long as you have the proper sharpening stones to maintain this very hard steel, and you’re primarily looking for edge retention, that is the steel I’d go with. They are regular production, but come in batches, so if they’re hard to find right now, be patient and keep an eye out for restocks. If you want some of the corrosion resistance that cpm 20cv or cpm m390 have, but are looking for more edge retention, then I would suggest the S110V in “blurple” g10. It is made in production batches like the Maxamet. This cpm CruWear knifecenter exclusive will also have excellent edge retention and the black coating should reduce corrosion. I’ve learned that, for achieving the best performance out of any steel, it’s most important to build sharpening skill. Your edge geometry and sharpness will have the most impact on edge retention. The Maxamet and S110V will out cut most steels, but aren’t as tough as CruWear. If you experience too much edge deformation/damage in any steel, increase your edge angle to make the actual apex slightly thicker. As a side note, there is some potential we may see a cpm15V Paramilitary 2 Sprint Run in the near future. If that indeed becomes a reality, I’d highly recommend keeping an eye out for it. Cpm15V will provide the second highest edge retention, close to Maxamet, and will be a little tougher. I’ve also had no issues with it corroding on my Manix. However, this is not a confirmed knife yet. The wording on Spyderco’s information that came with my Manix 2 just strongly suggests it to be in the works. I hope this helps!
@Cl1ff.Braden in all honesty I was thinking the blurple with the S110V blade steel. I do not currently own anything with S110V or Maxamet so I'm not too aware of the difference between the 2 to make a educated decision. I work in an Italian bakery that makes a lot of different bread products so my knives are mostly used for either cutting open 50lb ingredients bags or cutting up boxes our shortening comes in. blades don't ever see any real stress so toughness is not something I'm too concerned with hence the reason I want extremely good edge retention. I usually can get by for about 2 weeks of stropping daily before I have to take a fine stone to my S20V or M390 blades to make them hair popping sharp. would be nice to have something I can get maybe months use out of before having to touch the blade with any type of sharpener.
If anyone is considering a pm2, go for it. Most carried knife in my collection. Extremely versatile with the acute tip and nice slicey flat grind. Fun to flick too.

Kind of weird what they did with the Siren, changing the steel. the whole point of that knive was a fishing knife you could leave on the boat and not have to worry about salt water or anything. I have the fixed blade version of it, the waterway and its AWESOME. I wanted to get the siren but I saw there was a lot of issues with the lock. so they changed the steel to a (still decent corrosive resistant but definitely not as good as LC200n) , the changed the texture to be less grippy , which was a huge plus of the original for what its designed for. He didnt mention that they fixed the lock issues, and now its even more money. damn.
The designer of the Siren saw it as both a fishing knife and an EDC. This new version is a limited edition, so won't be around long. And the standard edition appeared on Spyderco's 2023 discontinued list, so that won't be around long either. Someone said on the Spyderco forum that the manufacturing of the handle scales resulted in too many that couldn't be sold at retail (don't know if it's true). Thanks, DCA. Great new lineup for last week of the year. Agree with many ... the KC exclusive CRK Sebenza in Green Gcarta looks fantastic but .... whew! 755 clams ... my oh my ...
Yep. Thin piece of cf over g10. I have a sage 5 with the same material and I actually like it quite a bit. Unlike most peel ply cf, spyderco's has a really nice texture.
The blade, clip, and handle machining on the Curtis F3 is killer, but some of the colors are a bit much. The one in the video is acceptable - but the Root beer / Aqua one that is still for sale is.... Hmmm. I did manage to scrimp together enough for a Demko AD20S in S45VN and a set of GOAT raw aluminum scales this year - but that killed my blades budget. The Curtis is also $100-$150 more than I'll spend on something that I would EDC, and I don't buy anything I won't carry.
Not being facetious at all, but could someone explain why CRK are so expensive? I genuinely don't understand. I've dropped a couple hundred on a knife before for higher steels or integral and such, but what is driving his price that high?
@@arrowheadguys7637 Yep. CRK does use some damn fine materials and they're made/assembled here in the US - but none of that justifies the price. They could cut their knife prices by 30 to 40% (at least) and still do very well. They charge that much because that's what ppl pay, sadly. When ppl stop, like you said, prices WILL drop.
That Leaf Jumper reminds me of my decades old Calypso Jr. My example also fully serrated. Used it as a money clip. Drew gasps at boarding gate checks in the 90's but always went with me onto the plane. That was then.
I have the RockJumper (wharncliffe) serrated version and a UKPK, which is somewhat similar to the Calypso Jr. Both designs are great! The RockJumper/ LeafJumpers having no choils or ricasso make them stand out a bit the Delica and Calypso style knives and while the UKPK is very comfortable and secure, and the Delica’s style of handle isn’t bad, the RockJumper’s handle is better for more grips and cuts that require more force. Love Spyderco’s serrations too. I think not all that much has changed about Spyderco’s since then, which I intend as a compliment, but they’re still refining designs that find good balance in qualities for different and new people, or people’s whose preferences/ standards/ needs have changed over time.

I'll get one eventually, but will probably go with the burl wood one thats cheaper than this one. I got a Spartan Harsey Plague Doctor for my birthday thats seems like a much better value for a high end folder than this.

What a great batch of new knives to end the year, ending strong for sure! Too bad I blew through my knife budget for the year in the first quarter lmao
Well, knife collecting was fun while it lasted. I’ve been doing it for 30 plus years, but with prices of knives now it will be coming to a stop. This is just ridiculous.
30 years, wow! I've been into the hobby about seven years, 200+ collection, $35k spent. I've reached my limit too, now starting to try and sell off a decent portion. Listed four knives on Bladeforums but got no bites. Maybe cause of the holidays. Going to re-list after the new year.
Serious question to anyone that buys folders over $200, especially WELL over $200, like $500+. What do you do with them? Are they display? Stored as collector items? Or carried and used? Again, serious question, as I'd being deathly scared of losing that level of investment.
I don't currently buy knives that expensive, but all through human history people have loved having knives as works of art as well as for utility. You see them on display in art museums. I hope if I ever buy a knife over $200 that I do use it a lot, but I have not tested that yet. It might lose its value on the resale market, but would become more special as a family heirloom to pass on to a son or daughter. :)
I currently own 27 Hinderer XM-18 3.5" and 8 Hinderer XM-24 4" of which three of the XM-18 and two of the XM-24 are in my EDC rotation. With also 3 Large Sebenza 21, 18 Large Sebenza 31, 2 Inkosi, & 2 Umnumzaan. I also own 8 Rockstead Knives which aren't in my daily EDC, which are mostly for my "Safe Queen." So to answer your question, yeah I do own and use knives that are over $500 and with most being part of my collection. Don't even get me started with my Microtech collection, because most of those knives are over $500 and I've 63 Combat Troodon. lol
The Sebenza is a good looking knife BUT I see NOTHING about it justifying HALF that price. You're basically paying for the name brand more than anything. This kind of price gouging is exactly why I will never buy one. At least buy me dinner before you try to f*** me lol. I know they'll sell out (thanks to people with more money than common sense). Prices will only come down when people refuse the bullshit prices.
Imagine $300+ knives coming with no hardware for the sheath. These fix blade companies need to step their game up. TKell is absolutely killing the competition in this regard (and many others as well).
I live in San Antonio, which is inside Bexar County. It is normally pronounced in English as BEAR. But the Spanish pronunciation is Bay-Har. We love you here DCA.
A lot of people in the comments complaining about pricing. I’ve got a solution for you, don’t buy the knife. Don’t worry, other people will. That CRK is probably already sold out. Complain about the price all you want, it doesn’t matter anymore. CRK is basically printing money with every knife at this point. They have a reputation as one of the best if not the best production folding knives under $1,000 for a reason.
Even though they have produced some of the most exotic and unorthodox folders, throughout their history, they have always held a, function first mentality.
That American bladeworks model 1 is fantastic, I don't like the clip though. But from the non-clip side it looks great. The clip on the Curtis is terrible aswell, shame to ruin what is otherwise an amazing looking knife.

You were doing well & consistently giving the prices in the beginning of your reviews, but failed to give a price on the RMJ Combat Africa knife, the only one that I was interested in, this episode. Of course I always have your website at hand in my bookmarks & saw that it is $395, before you gave it in the next knife review.
Hey everybody, it's the most expensive time of the week! ❤
Thanks, DCA. Great new lineup for last week of the year. Agree with many ... the KC exclusive CRK Sebenza in Green Gcarta looks fantastic but .... whew! 755 clams ... my oh my ...
Peel ply is it like a film / sticker overlay?
Yep. Thin piece of cf over g10. I have a sage 5 with the same material and I actually like it quite a bit.
Unlike most peel ply cf, spyderco's has a really nice texture.
Anyone get the price on the new Toor Mullet? I swear Dave forgot the price (again lol)
Because people are still buying them. When people stop, the price increases will as well. Til then, sky's the limit
@@paynekiller75 yeah, but with a 5 year backlog on orders I don't get the feeling people are gonna stop any time soon.
Things are worth what someone is willing to pay.
@@supporterofsanity Sure. But just like with those yahoos that pay millions of dollars for shite art - it doesn't mean we can't laugh at their idiocy
Nice description on the knives you are showing on the video sir. Take care and be safe. See you on the next video.
That Toor ebony fixed blade is sick! 😍
Beautiful pen
Hey DCA looking for a birthday present for my sister who is in the army. I was looking for some all purpose, all climate, anything you can throw at it knife. Would love both fixed and pocket recommendations under $200
I am digging the slippys!!👍
DCA - looking good with the shapeup for the new year. Thank you for a great year of education and entertainment!!
We don’t need anymore PM2s in cruwear. There is plenty of those going around. Should have requested a para 3 in cruwear. Think about it.
We had this same config as a Para 3 earlier this year. Turned out great! -DCA
@@knifecenter Just saying, there is already a production PM2 cruwear.
Some crazy prices here.
Greatest show of the year..!! Hoping to see more full tang next year matey. Stay safe for the New Year folks. Cowabunga.!
Thanks for a great 2022. Hope to see Thomas in front of the camera in 2023
What happened to the orange shipping boxes
Their supplier raised prices too much to make it affordable to use them.
WOW! I really like that new DPX 😁👍
Love this show. Don turner
I like the Sebenza and would love to get one, but I can't justify spending that much money on a knife. Hell, the standard CR knives are out of my price range.
I'll get one eventually, but will probably go with the burl wood one thats cheaper than this one. I got a Spartan Harsey Plague Doctor for my birthday thats seems like a much better value for a high end folder than this.
@@arrowheadguys7637 I got the burl wood large sebenza 31 with s45vn for $550, before the price increase.
Also have the spartan harsey folder with oculus pattern. It's the closest knife I've found to the sebenza.
The feel and action is very sebenza-like. The intricacy of the scale pattern is beautiful.
@@abc456f Yeah, I love the way my Spartan scales turned out, they are definitely doing some great work with their laser engraving. I also like how it doesn't feel like a 4" knife. very well designed.
It’s not worth it brother. I finally got mine after waiting on the list for a long time. Was not worth the wait, money, or effort to stay on the list.
Now I have a knife Im far too afraid to beat up and a mediocre warranty. Looks good and feels good but not $500 good
@@fireemblemistrash75 see, that's one of my issues - if I pay $500-800, I know I'd probably be hesitant to actually *use* the knife, or regret it after beating it up.
Toor has really cool designs.
Ya sebenzas are just to pricey for me. I wish they would make a sebenza fixed blade and cut cost a lot. Would be a good edc fixed blade!!
$755? Put down the bong son.
What a great batch of new knives to end the year, ending strong for sure! Too bad I blew through my knife budget for the year in the first quarter lmao
I want a premium version of the Kershaw lucid
Check out the kershaw cannon ball its like the next step up with d2 not quite primium though
@@scotthalvorson1161 your right looks exactly like it
Well, knife collecting was fun while it lasted.
@@abc456f depending on the action you also try eBay. Ive gotten some good knives/deals from there.
I buy cheapy knives, see how much value I can get.
Man I love Spyderco but they really need some new model's
If the new Military would ever be released!
The RMJ tactical ought to come with free Toto tee shirt and a iTunes download for “Africa” 😂
Ha that sebenza will be in stock for awhile just like knifeship free and blade hqs exclusives… I would’ve paid 750 all day for a DLC sebenza
It's SOLD OUT within a couple days.
Love the looks of that Sebenza, but can't justify that kind of $$$.
@@franticflintstone7999 Thanks for your comment. I can appreciate that viewpoint.
I also own 8 Rockstead Knives which aren't in my daily EDC, which are mostly for my "Safe Queen."
So to answer your question, yeah I do own and use knives that are over $500 and with most being part of my collection.
Why won’t you review the OKNIFE ZILLA???
It is going to be in this next Thursday's video ;) -DCA
New knives time *YES*
Imagine $300+ knives coming with no hardware for the sheath. These fix blade companies need to step their game up. TKell is absolutely killing the competition in this regard (and many others as well).
Thought that Toor was a Winkler from the thumbnail.
I live in San Antonio, which is inside Bexar County. It is normally pronounced in English as BEAR. But the Spanish pronunciation is Bay-Har. We love you here DCA.
325.00 -Toor Mullet
See you next year guys!
That Sebenza is sweet! Wish I wasn’t over budget from Christmas. Will they be a regular offering?
The QVC of knives.
And the used car salesman of knives 🔪
Damn you're right. I'm going to bed now 🤣
Most of the knives I’d like to buy but I’m left handed and majority of them are right hand only
Siren: simultaneously smooth yet rough...much like a shark's ass! 😁
See you in 2023! :-) Peace, Stiletto :-) P.S. Have you found anything new about when Cold Steel will release the Mayhem?
$755 really! Taking advantage of customers any? That’s lame
I've always found the Sebenza really boring looking
What are, Thomas's 5 Favorite Knives?
Thanks for fun show on stuff I won't buy....sadly.
Bexar with me, well get through this 😂
Man, why does Spyderco have the most basic looking knives at some of the highest prices? People buy the crap out of them, too. Mind blowing...
Even though they have produced some of the most exotic and unorthodox folders, throughout their history, they have always held a, function first mentality.
Damn I long for the long gone days of $350-400 Sebenza's
You can find em all day for that price on knife_swap
@@Puddspanker I browse knife trading places frequently and I never find them for that low unless they’re beat to hell
That American bladeworks model 1 is fantastic, I don't like the clip though. But from the non-clip side it looks great.
The clip on the Curtis is terrible aswell, shame to ruin what is otherwise an amazing looking knife.
755 because it has a different color micarta??? I mean, I love my CRKs but that is insane.
Great video! Just picked up 4 of your exclusive Sebenza’s!
Four Sebenzas?? Would you be willing to adopt an adult child? Or maybe have a sister or adult daughter so I could marry into the family?
@@chrisoneill325 plot twist: they live in an old shack and their car is on old shopping cart... but they have some noice knifes 😆
😂
I'm a blue collar guy through and through and am blessed to do quite well in a part of the country with a low cost of living. There ain't nothing blue collar in a knife that's 3/4 of a weeks take home pay. Just saying.
the fact that they have to feature a special edition sebenza because it hasn't sold out isn't a good sign. In the CRK FB group people weren't feeling it.
G-10 scales for $200 more than micarta, whats not to love?
It says "currently unavailable" so I guess they did sell out.
$755 ?? That's praetorian t territory. I'll just get a standard micarta over that.. it's a shame , I like the gcarta look
