I admit as a Laker fan: they could have been a much better matchup against Jason Kidd's Nets. That Finals could have been at least SOMETHING. Pretty much the reason I consider the '02 Finals as the worse of all time because it was so one sided. Shaq steamrolled through whatever New Jersey threw at him.
It will take a Herculan effort for Mike Brown and the Beam Team era Sacramento Kings to capitalize on their few chances especially in a free-for-all Western Conference.
The video was awesome dude definitely going to subscribe. I started watching the Kings back in 98 when I was 7 years old. and I had my heart broken in 2002 when the Kings lost to the Lakers. Truly an absolutely awesome video. It was sad having to watch how close we got tho.
@@edloteyro5563Nah. The Kings choked and had to suffer even more when other teams beat them to the punch for an NBA title and NBA Finals appearance since the 2002 WCF.
Not many teams had 2 big men like Vlade & Webb who can pass, shoot the jumper, post up, draw double teams, set up their teammates for easy buckets. They had one of the most unique offenses I saw. Ultimately Webb's knee injury was the nail in the coffin & despite them having the best record in the league the following season behind Peja's all-NBA performance, it was Webb ironically who upon returning from injury really screwed up the chemistry & that team faltered down the stretch dropping from the 1 seed to the 4th seed. Wish they would've got one at least, 2002 still hurts.
What people don't realize is that the year they started without Webber 03-04, Peja and T-Mac were head to head overtaking each other for the scoring title (around 26-27ppg IIRC) throughout the season. Then when Webber came back, he refused to come off the bench and ease his way back in (something Duncan did do for his team), and the team chemistry suffered and Peja's scoring dropped and McGrady took the scoring title. 2004 was their last legit title contending season and IMO they would have had it if Webber was more humble and Rick trusted his bench more.
True. Killed their chemistry. Webber rushed back to starting lineup too quickly. Should have played off the bench more. 2004 would have been WCF rematch with the Lakers. Webber missed last second shot in game 7 at Minnesota , wouldve been game winner 3 ptr. TWolves went on to face the Lakers in the WCF.
Even I will admit as a Laker fan that the Kings were robbed in '02. That Finals was a cakewalk for Shaq and the Lakers. Jason Kidd and New Jersey didn't stand a chance. I think Sacramento could have been a better and more competitive matchup than Los Angeles. Then after that, the Kings would become the only Pacific Division member to not make the playoffs since 2010.
I think the Sacramento Kings are the most cursed team in the NBA, even worse than the Los Angeles Clippers. They’ve had 3 different relocations, have had multiple playoff droughts lasting at least 10 years, and hold the record for the longest all-time playoff drought that lasted 17 years. Also, I think it’s worth mentioning certain incidents unique to the team that really no other sports team or very few have endured. 1957-Maurice Stokes gets a head injury in the season finale and gets a seizure on the plane during the flight back to Cincinnati for the second game of their playoff series. Six players retired on the spot and the team nearly folded. Yes, a team nearly folded on the spot over this matter. 1989- Ricky Berry took his life and died from gunshot wounds. He was one who had untapped potential. 1993- Bobby Hurley (who is now head coach of Arizona State) had a car accident that altered his career. He couldn’t live up to his potential from it. Also add on the fact that they’ve had multiple playoff series win droughts lasting at least 20 years (including another one that lasted 17 years) and I think at the end of the day it’s not even close, even with the Kings winning their lone championship all the way back in 1951 which one could argue they’re going through the NBA’s version of the Chicago Cubs curse that lasted 108 years.
Ah man. This is so heartbreaking. This was the best Sacramento team ever.I desperatly wanted them to win the tite. If they hadn't been robbed by the refs in 2002,and if it hadn't been for Horry(he always saved Laker not Kobe or Shaq) they would have won the title. But they slowly begin to collapse. Also, the Lakers' getting a four-peat was difficult where the Spurs ended their quest.
