Sad to see the Dash 8 finishing operations with another airline. I remember reading an article in an aviation magazine in 90’s about Tyrolean Airways getting the Dash 8-Q400. At least most will continue to fly for another few years with other operators! ✈️
@@sfsskycracker1448 yes alaska is slowly phasing then out secretly i work In alaska as a ground engineer and mostly at the hangar and they pulled the dash q.400 in and the removed the paint form the body and the seats and sent it out it stayed there for at least 1 and got all three things done and them sent out
These aircraft looked one of the best to see some of the most beautiful, and unique places around Europe. I'm glad the Q400s can stay for Air Canada Express (personally for me, since I live in Canada) but I can't imagine those feelings that these aircraft can have some personal connections. Yep, for your southern neighbors (sorry you have to deal with us), they’ve got some time left with the 200, 300, and 400 at United Express and the 300 and 400 with Alaska Horizon! WestJet Encore is also hanging onto there’s, as is Porter!😸

@@abshivkumar2549 I feel like the ATR is suited to a slightly different terrain. I see it's popular in Asia and South America. I see the Q400 everywhere else. They have some differences. ATR is great, but I don't think it is a true replacement to the Q400. And yes, there is the Q400 nextgen.

I flew both the Fokker 70/100 and the Dash-8 as cabin crew for Austrian back in 2014-2015. It was a very special and amazing time in my life and seeing these planes perform their final flights gives me so much nostalgia.
Honestly, the Dash was a really good aircraft for destinations smaller than 1000km, but fliegt with it wasn't really comfy. It was very loud inside the cabin. Nevertheless, goodbye and have a good time. I'm looking forward to the flights from Düsseldorf to Salzburg with the Airbus aircrafts with smoother and shorter travelling.
Depends where you sit in the aircraft for noise. It's quite quiet for a turboprop, and got quieter as Bombardier made chances. As for comfort, generally airlines don't prioritize that for short haul aircraft.
@@michellocci but there should still be at least maybe one classic 747 still flying passengers as for tribute. The 747 was a truly amazing plane and brought the aviation industry into an entire whole new level.

I few on a dash 8 a couple of years ago in canada. wonderful airplane to fly in. Sad it's leaving Austrian Airlines, but glad most of them are finding new homes with other air lines.
Trips like that were what the Dash-8 was made for, always loved flying on them in my younger days even though they were horribly loud! Hopefully those planes still have some good years of service ahead of them!

Sad to see them being retired :( Happy that I have flown both the q400 and F100 with Austrian, both great planes. I am happy though that we still will have the Dash8 flying around here in Norway for many more years with Widerøe. This also mark an end of the old Tyrolean Airways, that is also sad. One fun-fact is that Norwegian in cooperation with Tyrolean applied for a PSO-contract in Norway back in 1996, but sadly Widerøe won it, would have been fun if they won!✈️
I love the stroboscopic effect in prop videos. They (seem) to stand still, to go backwards, to oscillate. Also, were any of the pax on those flights actually traveling point to point or were they all aviation geeks there for the historic last flights? I liked the voice-over. Much better than reading damned subtitles!
PAL airlines in Canada? I didn't even know they still operated and were planning to expand, and I'm from the East Coast of Canada! That's great though.
I am a Dash captain at PAL, we are probably the only operator that runs a Q400 into gravel airstrips. I love the airplane. I flew the 100/300 20 years ago, and it so good to be back flying the Dash again.
Thank you so much for this video, but shouldn't the airline have plans for a different type of turbo-prop that will be suited for the future? Turbo-props are really fuel efficient in this hard times and new airlines are still considering using them rather jumbo jets.

As a Canadian, always loved the Dash series. Sad to see Austrian remove them, but all planes see retirement eventually. I don't know about the move itself though. Can Embraer jets really replace turboprops in this case? Turboprops are just more economical on short routes, and has capabilities the jets don't. Love the video and the crew members at Austrian though!
Did they taxi the Q400 to the hangar with all passengers on board and disembark there? Also, was there a water salute or does Austrian not really do those things?

Oh my leash favorite plane that seemed to haunt my travels growing up. It was the very first airplane I ever flew on. Omg sitting here watching the view during takeoff and its the exact same seat i was in during that first flight and I got that same feeling briefly that I had on take-off. Like an oh shit, wow, omg! What's that sound ? And that vibration .........? Wasn't expecting that, don't recall ever having something like that manifest for a couple seconds especially something so long ago. .To be fair its a good plane but in not a wings above me kind of guy.. Do get a better view below though.
The Embraer 190's, which isn't a suitable replacement in my opinion. Turboprops are just more economical on some of those routes. And the Dash-8 isn't even that old.
I wonder if Austrian Airlines is going too take interest of buying New Planes in the upcoming years if they do they'll need lots of money too but them.
US airlines have retired multiple turboprops in favor of small jets, and I'm guessing that Europe could follow too in retiring these aircrafts also in favor of small jets too.
Its sad to see the Dash 8-Q400 end with Austrian Airlines (Which also ends Turboprop operation with Lufthansa Group). Which kind of surpise me since I've heard that Turboprop planes are more fuel efficent the treditional jet aircraft like the E-190.

Feels weird seeing a fairly modern aircraft being retired all of a sudden. But then again, it's design is over 35 years old.
Especially in a terrain and country well suited for the Dash 8. Nothing can truly replace it yet.

Did LOT retire their DH4s and SAS their ATRs during Covid? I didn't realize this was the last turboprop flight in the LH group.
Flew on this craft several times Frankfurt to Innsbruck, it holds itself real good and Austrian crew gave a good service always, sad departure

Sadly, Austrian is moving to an all-jet fleet, so they are being replaced with the E195 and A320 family.
