    The 2024 Yamaha YZ450F was all-new last year, made to be lighter, skinnier, and more nimble, with an opened-up cockpit. This bike won our 450 Shootout last year, and it didn't receive any updates for the new model season as all focus was shifted to the new YZ250F. In this video, Josh Mosiman and Dennis Stapleton talk about the pros and cons of the YZ450F engine, suspension and handling.

    I prefer my '21 for many reasons. The Twin Air dome style air filter kit is expensive and actually hurts power if the airbox capacity above the filter isn't increased. It also traps dirt around the edges that falls into the engine when the filter is removed for service. I use Twin Air's factory style (piece of toast) filter with PJ1 pink bubblegum oil. I cut away the flash arrestor screen with a Dremel tool to leave just the plastic spiderweb left to support the air filter. It sounds soo wicked when I'm WOT just grab'n gears! With the ProCurcuit T6 complete exhaust system and nasty tunes I have loaded into the ECU, it still gives me a thrill everytime. Nothing but premium non ethanol fuel with 2 ozs. of Klotz Nitro octane booster and 1 oz. of Stabil per 3 gallons.

    Everything sounds great about this bike but after spending a year on the 22 i dont like the aggressive bottom end of the yamaha. Tuning it helps smooth it out a little but its still just a little too aggressive for me. It makes it difficult to corner and you fight the bike in the ruts. Im going back to kawi and getting the 24 kx450

    • @mxr248
      @mxr248 8 месяцев назад +4

      Absolutely wrong about the Yamaha in the ruts and the power. Yes they make a great powerful motor but you can tune it. I just rode one last weekend and the map that was in it was smooth and if you wanted more twist more. That bike handles way better than the new Kawasaki I rode. The new Kawasaki and the front end is very inconsistent. Also the front end a few times had head shake like Honda is known for. I did a few changes to his bike which helped some but I didn’t push the bike much further. Another thing I rode the 20, 21,22,23,24 yz Yamaha’s that 22 that you had is amazing bike and does everything great. The new 23 24 is really amazing. The 450 in corners, air and so on you think you’re on a 250. The suspension is as always awesome!

    • @Stinky_sack
      @Stinky_sack 8 месяцев назад +1

      @mxr248 the bike is hard to lean in the ruts and it wants to either dive or stand up on you. The throttle doesn't roll on smoothly. It's a rocket ship and hard to stay smooth. Maybe you just prefer the aggressive nature of the yamaha but I rode kawi all my life before this yamaha and I'm just mote comfortable on the kawi

    • @mxr248
      @mxr248 8 месяцев назад +2

      @@Stinky_sack no I tuned mine down a bit at 1/4 throttle so it was more smooth through ruts then twist more when exiting. Cause mine was touchy. But from that on up I had it where it came on. My friend he’s a bigger guy had his Kawasaki motor done with high compression piston and different cams, aftermarket exhaust and mine with a tune all stock would still pull harder which he played with loved it. He even said my bike cornered better than his as well. He and a few others were wondering how I was getting them so easy in the corners. So they rode my bike that day on the same track. So he was wanting a Yamaha now. But the new yz450 was a little smoother with the map it came with and I absolutely loved it and the bike is so light feeling everywhere.
