    I have those black edition. Love them. Using them for low end mixing and reference,and i mix the rest on my Yamaha HS 50s monitors cause those are messing low end . Works every time. Sounds great everywhere.. Without Sonar or any equalization..

    Had this exact same problem. Been using the M50x for years and music I made sounded great when listening on those headphones, but in the car or other speakers it sounded shit. Just ordered the 990 Pro and also a pair of monitor speakers.

    M50x has more low end (boosted) so mixing on them might not be a good move. M40x are Way better in terms of Over-all sound quality and they are flat

      That’s a lie, the m40x suck also.. Your mix sounds good while wearing them but doesn’t translate well to other sound sources..

      I had both and they sound virtually identical to my ears. But when it comes to mixing with headphones, knowing the tendencies of whatever you use for monitoring is the whole game. You don’t have to have a perfectly flat response, but you do have to be able to compensate

    Depends on what you mix to. Ive never heard something as unbiased as my sennheiser 560s but certain music is supposed to be played on higher bass devised which they dont lack but the tracks just sounds badly because they are so analytical.

  • @drizzy8k92

    So you’re saying closed back or open back is better?

    • @tokyoextra0rdinaire
      @tokyoextra0rdinaire  Год назад +2

      Neither are necessarily “better.” It really just depends on your use-case. So for mixing and mastering, open-back headphones will give you more of a “natural” sound that will ultimately help you get more accurate mixes.

      m30x's. the reason the music sounded different in the car is because the sound is able to freely flow out in the air. whereas when she was mixing and liking what she was producing THROUGH THE HEADPHONES, it sounded similar across other closed headphones/earbuds.

      @aryankumar87771 quality is relatively the same minus the lower 79$ price tag. 50x does supposedly have deeper bass if that's what you like(although most closed-backs have better bass by design because sound waves bounce back when enclosed). I have the m30x's myself.
      What music do you like? Do you also like movies and video games through headphones too? What's your estimated budget?

      I wouldn’t say that one is better, just applied differently.
      For instance, if you don’t have any sound restrictions, I’d say mix using speakers (the HS5’s).
      But if you have noise limitations, or are traveling, the DT 990’s are an amazing alternative. I hope this helps ✨

    dont know how you folks keeps hyping all these headphones. tgis 990pro 250ohms especially lacks bass. why do i have to go pay for some apps like sonarworks to use them. like why. even had to buy an iD14 as people keeps saying it woukd bring out the bass

    • @tokyoextra0rdinaire
      @tokyoextra0rdinaire  11 месяцев назад +2

      I can’t speak for anyone else, but it’s definitely not hype for me. In some cases, gear doesn’t matter, and in others, it literally hinders or obstructs your workflow. And that was genuinely the case for me.
      So I made this video simply to share with others a potential solution for a common mixing problem. When mixing, you actually want your listening source to be as true to sound as possible. So if it’s lacking bass or treble, that may be a sign that something needs to be corrected in your mix - so adding in a plug-in that falsely adds bass or treble will put you back in the same position, resulting in an inaccurate mix. I hope this helps ✨

      @@tokyoextra0rdinaire well from others who’ve used it. They confirmed that I was right about it missing the 100hz region downwards. What have you been using to Mix those regions. I do Afrobeats mostly and so I must not joke with the bass. So I’d like to know if you have a special trick or tips that I can always use. I’d appreciate that a lot

    • @by3176
      @by3176 7 месяцев назад

      @@tokyoextra0rdinaire You have been making a lot of great points throughout this comment section but I have to respectfully disagree with your very last point. Although it is true that you want your monitoring method to be as accurate and neutral as possible, the key part here is “as possible.” Creating headphones with a truly absolutely flat frequency response is near impossible. Manufacturers can get close, but every headphone will impart its own bias to some degree. It is not an uncommon practice for seasoned producers with well developed ears to create an extra, separate ‘master’ track with eq specifically for listening to the mix through their headphones. If you have an amazing pair of headphones (great soundstage, imaging, etc) but they have a bit of an an aggressive +2 db mid-high range curve then it might behoove you to counteract that with eq or you run the risk of trusting that your mid-high range is balanced well within the mix, but when you listen elsewhere it’s being buried because it was just the headphones exaggerating those frequencies. TL;DR: using the frequency curve chart of your particular headphones to dial in your headphones with eq (whether with sonarworks or otherwise) can be a great way to get as close as possible to a flat response since no headphones are truly neutral. I’m obviously not talking about anything extreme here. There are also those who choose to forego this in favor really learning a set of headphones or speakers through spending a lot of time with them and cross referencing with other listening sources and just being mentally cognizant of their behavior while mixing with them. Anyway, I hope this came across well. Nice vid!
