One of the most legendary keyboard solos of all time. It was played on a primitive synthesizer that the keyboardist modified heavily from a Clavioline, and renamed a "Musitron"
You can imagine cruising around in the late fifties with this song blaring on the radio. Each songs takes you into a different place and when you come back your like wow what was that. It’s the only way to travel. You both are fun to watch and she’s so cute how she gets into it.
Have loved this song for almost 50 years now. I first heard this when the movie 'American Grafitti' was released in 1973. My brother, another friend, and I would ride our bikes down to the movie theatre to watch that movie during the matinee hours... If you love oldies, 'American Grafitti' is a great movie to see. I believe it was George Lucas' first big movie as well... Wonderful reaction too, Thanks, guys! 😁😁😁
Enoma. Every Autumn the fair came to our town. On an early Saturday afternoon with my pocket money I went along. The fair played all the latest hits and they played this song. So many people qued at the D.J.'s caravan requesting this song that in the end from 8p.m. to the fair closed at 11p.m this was the only song played. When I finally got home everyone was worried about where I was so I got the biggest smack I ever had. Happy times, happy memories. Thank you. Cheers Chris Perry.
Hats of to Larry is superb, as , So long baby, The Swiss maid, Hey little girl, Little town flirt, Two kinds of teardrops, Handy man, keep searching, stranger in town, Break up, move it on over, I can’t believe my ears, Thinking it over, Gemini, Sister Isabel, Del was a musical genius. The album Home and away, and The further adventures of Charles Westover, Drop down and get me, Rock On, to name a few. Rock on DEL, you are sorely missed.
"Hats Off to Larry" has to be next, by law, followed by Johnny Tillotson "Poetry in Motion", Brian Hyland "Sealed With a Kiss" and Billy Fury "Halfway to Paradise" - the first four tracks on a BASF reel to reel tape I cherished for years.
If you ever do Running Down A Dream by Tom Petty, the line "Me and Del were singing 'little runaway'" will now make sense. PS: This song was in the movie American Graffiti.
People recommending "Hats off to Larry"??? 🤣 Nooo that's by far Del's WORST song 👀 "Stranger in Town" and "Keep Searching" are so much better than "Hat's off to Larry" 🤯😁😊
Del had a tragic ending. Despondent over his career he committed suicide just the night before Tom Petty called him to be part of "The Traveling Wilbury's". - Suicide; A permanent solution to a temporary problem.
