- This is a hack made by /Zel/, CDI-Fails, and Kaze for Ocarina of Time that takes place between it and Majora's Mask. In this playthrough even though it's not a 100% playthrough includes getting some optional heart pieces and completing the game.
Link to the release and patch (www.romhacking...)
Update: the hack has since been taken down by Nintendo but if you want to try it yourself, I suggest a quick google search (also new link in the description).
#Zelda #Romhack #N64
I like how sorrowful the atmosphere is in this game. You can really feel how alone link feels without Navi…
And then we get a clue as to what happened to her and that makes it even more a bummer for him.
IGN review
@@spaceycaveco.698 y- y ou mean to say that that THING ...ATE navi??!
Is THAT is what was being implied???
Huge fan of this rom hack. The slowly shifting tone perfectly bridges the gap between Ocarina and Majora’s Mask.
Does it shift, though? I thought it felt like Majora's Mask from start to finish. Not that I'm complaining.
@@beesmongeese2978 Yeah! The 'The Missing Link' felt spooky and eerie, like how Termina felt! :D
It felt more like majoras mask tbh
As with some of the other replies it doesn't feel like so much of a shift as a doubling down on the eeriness of MM. To bridge the gap I feel like it would have been better to capture something a bit more isolated and serene in the vein of something like Ico. It always struck me from the start of Majora's Mask that Link was not just a long distance from home but far away from the excitement and tribulations of his last adventure. Anyway this ROM hack is really well made and totally nails the theme it's going for. The music is especially well put together and creative, seamlessly blending bits of classic themes and sound fonts with new compositions.
This is like having a fever dream about ocarina of time, where everything is different, but your brain is just like “ah, yes, dont you remember? Its your childhood!”
Actually, watching this video or watching videos about or playing Ocarina of Time or Majora's Mask for even 8 minutes can cause a pounding headache and drowsiness. I wonder if watching this video and then stopping right before bed can cause a nightmare during the night and a fever the next morning? Even just a temporary fever? Or if it does happen that it's just a coincidence?
LMFAO IM playing for the first time and can confirm this is 100% ,, like those dreams where everything's melting and wonky and ur like yea this is normal I guess xD
So kinda like the Super Mario 64 beta mods? I always dreamed of the castle but it being different from the base game and strange enough (blew my mind) people have made like exact copies of the layout of the castle I've seen in my dream shit was wild whether it be a certain room or whatever.
When I was a kid playing oot this is how I would kinda picture the sequel being
Anyone else believe that paranormal energy can make you feel unwell? I remember coming back from Camp Kennebec with a fever of 101, and supposedly Camp Kennebec is haunted. And playing one of three games or watching videos of them, (Ocarina of Time, Majora's Mask, and Yo-Kai Watch 2) can cause a high body temperature, same things happens when watching videos. This makes me wonder, is there some kind of paranormal curse that makes you feel unwell when watching or playing these games, and watching this video? Or is it just anxiety that causes it?
If the phrase "so good it should be official" hasn't been run into the ground yet, then I feel that's the perfect way to describe this romhack. The level of love and detail put into the story and level design is magnificent! The puzzle design looks challenging without being too frustrating, and the story is told in a really clever way that feels organic to the world and characters, as well as being a beautifully poignant interquel in its own right.
I feel like the one death in it adds too much more to an already tragic life.
It warms my heart that people love these series as much as i do to continue it in some way. im in no way a developer, so my ideas could never see the light of day, but this was amazing
what are your ideas?
We may never know
With major advancements lately through AI, you'll very soon be able to create games however you like extremely simply through AI help. Being a developer means nothing now that AI chatbots can code and program for us, only ever improving at an extremely fast rate.
Don't feel like you're missing out.
@@SeanTheWeak hopefully you see this after a year, but I just want more story as the original link grows ya know. Like after mojoras mask, he finds Navi and faces some new threat with her. Just my idea.
@@xcviij7045 would be pretty amazing to see something like that, but I also like the element of suprise when I play. Maybe shooting something in the dark and letting it take over wouldn't be a bad idea.
The deep woods theme is amazing it’s so good
Bro like actually. The theme and vibe of the deep woods is just so good
This game is like a fever dream you have after a long night of studying for school, and when you wake up you swear it was real playing it.
It really does now i wanna have these fever dreams again
Playing Majora's Mask or watching videos of it, or its hacks, can cause actually cause a fever, in my experience...but it doesn't happen all the time. Same with Yo-Kai Watch and Yo-Kai Watch 2. It could be simply a coincidence, too!
This makes alot more sense on how link got to where he is in majoras mask
Gotta say, that final boss had a pretty solid design. That face would've definitely freaked me out as a kid.
Wish there was a bit more to the fight than just hourglass to win.
Yup, the boss sure is scary looking...
Love the original music and remixed Ocarina of Time themes in this game's soundtrack.
This game right here deserves to be on the N64 online service
i love the music in the dungeon, and the dungeon's design is so beautiful, it feels like a cross between Wind Waker's Wind Temple and the Forest Temple from Twilight Princess
Kinda sounds like the sandship from SS too
@@moustachio05 NEIN
@@wackolantern4786 JA JA JA KOMMANDANT
Fun fact: the "Monktown Sanctuary" theme is actually the Earth Temple theme from Wind Waker, just N64-ified.
Amazing rom hack, I can feel the time and passion invested into this project.
I really like the soundtrack, the song from Deep Woods reminds me of metallica's "fade to black" intro.
Yeah I can hear the similarities. Its really good.
Gotta say, I certainly wasn’t expecting the return of the red and blue pillars from classic 2D Zelda as well as the handheld games, not to mention the hourglass and the gimmick surrounding it really ought to be revisited by Nintendo themselves in an official release since that’s friggin’ cool being able to rewind time so to speak just a few seconds for Link.
It's sad that Nintendo took it down, if is were them I would be more than happy to have the community make this, it's a sign that the community takes inspiration
Wait, when did they do this?
@@Gorilla-r4g I can't remember
Around a month after it released, Nintendo have an eye on one of the creators of that project so they take down a lot stuff they're involved in.
@@MrAmu11 oh right, cheers dude
Back up again
What an amazing project. Truly an impressive feat, giving me nostalgia despite never playing this specific version. Love it
I think nintendo should have invested more into this it has amazing potential and i think zelda fans both young and older would really enjoy this
I guess Im kinda off topic but do anybody know a good site to watch newly released series online?
@Michael Cason Flixportal xD
@Shiloh Jeffrey Thank you, I signed up and it seems like they got a lot of movies there :D I appreciate it !!
@Michael Cason happy to help xD
Nintendo didn’t make this
One of the most disturbed experiences I’ve had playing a Zelda game because while majoras mask is very distinctly dark it still had a lightheartedness/light at the end of the tunnel-
This game almost exclusively provokes a sorrowful dark feeling I’ve never seen replicated.
1:07:09 is easily the best part of this ROM hack. At first it seems like you're performing a glitch but you're instead rewarded by being granted access to the dungeon's basement
2:43 “maybe mido was right about you.” Uh that’s so sad that link lost his fairy and now links friends practically betrayed him.😢
They were never his friends.....they always treated him like shit and when Navi showed up I'm pretty sure alot were either disappointed or maybe a little surprised but I don't remember any of them celebrating with link about it which it what a real friend does when good shit happens to you.
@@ehshornet2010 True Link's only true friends (at least to my eyes) are Saria, Malon, Zelda, and Ruto (kinda...this is towards Ruto).
You could also count the skull kid as well since he considers you a friend as well in Oot.
@@ehshornet2010 some of them were his friends, and some of them weren't. You can see in the Manga one of them (probably Saria) tells Link not to let the bullies bother him.
This is by far the BEST ocarina of time mod ever made
It isn't OoT. It's Majora's Mask! It still is the best mod so far for both games, anyway.
This was beautifully done.
This does bridge the gap after ocarina of time and before majora's mask. I wish Nintendo thought of this to kinda sorta explain how link did get to where he was at the beginning of majora's mask rather than "oh you know hyrule castle that we placed you back at the end of the ocarina of time? We aren't going to put you there. Your now somewhere else now."
While this game does provide some additional lore to how he did got to where he was in majora's mask, I only wished this was in majora's mask at the beginning. My 10 year old self would have loved the lore
There is no gap though. Nothing happens between OoT and MM except that Link leaves Hyrule with Epona after saying goodbye to Princess Zelda to go look for Navi. None of what happened in this romhack is actually canon.
The Deep Woods Theme is beautiful! T_T
Even the music in this game is so…. Sentimentally correct
Great dungeon mechanic, liked seeing a phantom hourglass variable in the child timeline, and awesome dungeon boss! Looks like a Halloween inspired boss that Nintendo could actually use. And just Scary detail of freeing those fairies, but ended up eaten😨😱😨
But only gripe i have is why saria still lingers when all the sages seemingly pass on...and that it was a bit anticlimactic just the end now seeing it's the forest to start Majora's mask...i am missing the part to understand why it's called the missing link...but either great rom hack! Also awesome for bringing the sword beam for any Beta Ocarina of time enthusiasts to give closure😆
the sages aren’t awakened as sages because in this timeline Ganondorf is defeated while Link is still a kid, so Saria (almost) “died” and lingered due to her almost getting killed by the demon. Not because of having to awaken as a sage
@@KOAlleyCat I really hope you can see this comment. Your comment last time intrigued me. What do you mean by what you said last time, about saria being "killed by the demon, and lingers and not by being awakend as a sage" ?
I know the missing link rom hack is a fan story of what would happen during the end of OoT in the child timeline. The events after Link stops Ganon from attacking hyrule and STARTS OoT.
34:48-35:30 For a fanmade project, this part made me so sad...
Same. It gets even more depressing at the end of the credits where you see her one last time before she fades into the afterlife. Even though Link defeated the demon and avenged her, it still didn’t bring her back.
@@madara1442 just like gohma in the deku tree
Love how the tone creeps up into the majoras mask setting
Links friend saria comes out of the sword & he isn't shaken up by the fact she's effectively dead then proceeds to cut grass as per usual 🙄
Great play through! I've been wanting to watch this mod for a while. It's a pretty cool game!
Keep creating beautiful things like this. This is amazing.
This game was made to explain why the kokiri sword looks different in majora's mask lol (seriously, it's a good hackroom, it fits quite well between OOT and MM)
That Kokiri theme is too happy. Here I’m having a meh day, and that thing is putting me in a good mood 😂
I often dreamed of listening to Saria's Song arranged as a boss bgm, and now my dream's come true. So thankful!
Nintendo's strategy towards mods is such garbage. They could be making money hand over fist if they embraced their games as highly moddable, content creatable worlds. But instead they go and sue these talented, passionate *fans* into oblivion.
Right? It’s ridiculous just how quick they are to pull the plug to free rom hacks that bring their decade old games back to life. If they were still making new/adding to oot thenMAYBE I could understand why, since it would possibly affect their income from the games, but they’re not.
Imagine if they sold a Zelda64 dev kit for the Switch. They would wipe with money. But I guess it would make this art less niche and interesting. I'm sure part of the fun of making these romhacks is problem solving with selfmade ressources.
It isn't yours to tamper with.
@@deathisSkele-ton wrong. If I own something I own the right to modify it. Companies can make it easier or harder to do that (think cars from 20 years ago vs cars today), but there is absolutely no law on the books that says you can't modify or improve something that you bought. I hope there never will be such a law. Now, that said, selling modified versions of a trademarked product usually is illegal. But I am not talking about allowing people to profit off mods - simply providing the tools to make creating them easier (like many other game companies do).
I feel so bad. The game was so good
why?
@@oishidas443 As soon as this project was released, Nintendo hit them with a cease and desist so they had to remove it.
I loved it, but i didn't get the ending that much. It felt rushed.
the ending is he gets transported to lost woods, he thinks he sees navi, calls epona and it sets up the beginning of majoras mask
I honestly thought it was told decently enough in MM as it is; Link tells Zelda he cannot stay, she gives him a farewell gift (the Song of Time, iirc), he leaves riding Epona to search for "a lost friend", and finds himself lost in the woods.
Do... do people forget about this cutscene?
@@AriochStarr No one forgets. But there had to have been something that happened between when he tells Zelda about Ganondorf’s plan and when he sets out for the Lost Woods. When he leaves with the ocarina of time he already had the hero shield and Epona. Two things he didn’t possess when he went to Zelda after defeating Ganondorf.
Nintendo should let OG zelda fans make up the plot holes between games to full the timeline
If scott cawthon owner nintendo, he'd allow this
Interesting game to say the least. Gotta love fan games.
I LOVE THIS! I'm glad I found this.
Great LoZ hackgame. It's crystal clear it was put a lot of effort to recreate the atmosphere present in LoZ games. Whoever made it, congratulations. That being said, I would like to stress some points out that could have made this experience even better for my taste.
1. Instead changing Kokiri Forest, why didn't keep the map like the original one? Some slight changes are welcome, like restricting the access to Great Deku Tree area, putting a Piece of Heart located at the top of the hill whose access is compromised due to broken narrow bridge (once Link gets Magic Beans, you can reach right there though) or setting a bold rock blocking the fence of Forest Training Center.
2. Deep Woods is a nice touch, but I feel it should be located *inside Lost Woods,* whose entrance would be guarded by Mido until you pick the sword. Just like Kokiri Forest, LW should remain almost untouchable in the beginning; however, the way where the user walk through it could have been different. For example, when Link enters the maze, in the place of being transported back the entrance by choosing going straight, a new pathway is unlocked. Besides, within Link's journey towards Deep Woods in LW, it's a golden opportunity to stablish a smoothy transition between the Lost Woods which is presented in OoT and the one which appears in MM by creating the labyrinth design look like more and more complex, spookier, wider, full of trees unlike the dull and green squares with 4 entrances as it was showed in Ocarina.
3. Even though discharging fire beams from Link's sword is cool, it feels rather out of place in this case. Bring back spinning attack or give it a normal/wind projectile, which could be useful in some dungeons. About a new manner to produce fire, I'm not sure how much time it'd last, but it'd be awesome to create 2 new items for this game: Fire Rod and Ice Rod. The former lits torches and burns enemies, the latter puts fire out (and maybe freezes enemies if the efforts allow it). I can see creative ways to explore these two items.
I fully understand the decision of creating a single dungeon, especially when there is just a person behind it and when this dungeon is so well made like Hollow Root Keep. But the experience was so mouth-watering that extending the game a little bit would please many of us. The mod really deserved a competent team working with him to help with time schedule and other stuff in order to make this viable enough.
Some additional brainstorm:
1. Monktown Valley could have had a dungeon, not necessarily as extense as OoT temples or MM ones, but with some clever engine behind it. Perhaps this is the best place to introduce Fire Rod. As soon as it is cleared, the curse upon the habitants vanishes for good. A proper mini-boss makes this process more believable though. Dead Hand, Iron Knuckles or even Floormaster fit better than Peahat.
2. Due to the extension of the game, assure of adding some shortcuts to improve the user's experience. It takes time to go through DW and Kokiri Forest in normal circumstances. However, after gaining Bombchu, a giant obstacle can be blown up and shortens the path between these places.
3. Allow Link to dig deeper into the demon's background to depict it as a even more terrifying monster. Its design and its theme are quite solid. Congratulations!!
4. Some items are needed to complete the game while others aren't mandatory. However, these optional items grant you some Piece of Heart. Not vital, but it offers more diversity, replayability and depth for the game.
5. I'd like to see Fado playing a minor role here, specially taking into account the story involving fairies. But it's more a fetish than something to be seriously considered.
Don't take these commentaries as something to be a mood killer. The final outcome caters to many LoZ fans and there are a lot to praise. Hats off the catchy soundtrack, the final exclusive item, the idea of bridging OoT and MM, all the time and effort invested in the project and so on.
Origin of Majora's Mask.
Apesar de bem curta eu adorei essa hack, o nível de qualidade é excelente. Só aguardando as speedruns kkkk.
I must say that im not that fan of hacks and stuff... but must agree that "The missing link" sounds pretty solid for a Zelda tItle.
A little annoying that thier is no in game origin OF the unique Hylian Shield " lul it's jus thier "
5:22 Even though this is meant to be a prequel to Majora’s Mask, I wonder how that sword lost its Blade Beam ability after that? 😂
aaahh !!!
I was finally able to finish the game and because the lost link is the second part of ocarina of time (Zelda) and obviously it goes before Majora's Mask but I loved it ... ❤️❤️❤️❤️❤️🍃👌🏻🎮
Yo, this is actually really well made!
Only complaint is that the final boss should have been called ArborGohma
Awesome! A play through where I can see.
15 minutes into this amazingly fanmade zelda game and it's already darker than majoras mask😮😅
Wow. Interesting. Very minimalist, but still an interesting story/gameplay.
This looks great! I honestly just love the fresh music! Id listen to a playlist
The reason that nobody show us that before when we was a kid I was like there was a lost game or something?

Wow, I actually thought this was a real game! I thought it was a new game that finally explains what happened to the Hero of Time!
How did the entire layout of the world change? And I feel like Saria was warning Link that he shouldn't kill the Redeads.
So is Navi dust?
I wonder if they got inspiration from Fi.
That hourglass seems to put Link where he was a few seconds ago, but he doesn't actually go back in time.

It's sad how Nintendo took down this project, but I guess you could say all the links to it are "missing" heh
"Impressive. Most impressive."
Would this new game be considered as the missing Ura Zelda game that was promised but never delivered that was supposed to have came out in the late 90's by Nintendo?

Nice DLC content! 😄
The only thing i didn't like about this rom hack is the bombchu wall puzzle you gotta blow up.
The fact that modders made a far better sequel (that we will never officially get) than Nintendo did, is mind blowing. This is a great way to tie OoT and MM together!
I Will made Ocarina of Time in romantic version about the love Story between Link and Zelda
