I knew a guy who was very happy when his ex-wife died. It meant he would be able to retire. His divorce agreement gave half his pension and half his 401K to his ex-wife. He couldn't retire on half and was going to just work until he dropped dead. He retired a year later.

Would you gamble your life savings in a casino that's renowned for being crooked? I think it's an intelligent idea to avoid a system that's rigged against you.
It really seems to me that most men who become MGTOW really do it out of insecurity and fear, and I refuse to live my life as an insecure and fearing person. A lot of MGTOWs bring up the family court system constantly, and they blame the system and women for them losing, but how is that? I'd like to know.
TheSaderV because all it takes is one experience to change your life for the negative. Losing half of everything you own, most of your income, and essentially many freedoms to serve a system and a gender that feels entitled to fleece you.
Why don't you go ahead and take the plunge and tell us how you feel after it happens to you?

Hmm, I see. Divorce is scary and marriage is a big risk in the legal sense. Men do lose a lot, but maybe men aren't being careful enough about who they marry? Also, it seems rather drastic to remove women from your sphere of life altogether. Paranoid even. That amount of insecurity really rubs me the wrong way. Not only that, I also get the impression that a lot of MGTOWs think divorce happens purely out of malicious intent.
My biggest issue with MGTOWs is that a lot of them seem really bitter, and they spend time around and in groups with other MGTOWs. Whenever I see a comments section with an excessive amount of MGTOWs like this one, toxicity just wafts out of my computer screen, and I just don't think it's healthy to be associating with a group so down in the dumps.
Just seems to me like brooding about with other negative people is more harmful than getting back up and putting yourself back out there. Do MGOTWs just admit defeat in the face of women and the system?
I'd equate MGTOW to an echo chamber type of situation where these mens' pain and anger is only reinforced and not mitigated. It's because of this I question MGTOWs and how healthy their mindspace is. That's my only real speculation on the matter.
Also this is not an argument, I just want some insider perspective.

I lose a lot of my time by working, but I earn a salary. I lost 4 years of my life getting a degree, but that piece of paper lets me work a job I love. Having something to lose isn't the issue. The problem is what do I gain in exchange for those sacrifices. What is the reward associated with the risk? When I ask myself those questions, honestly, all I can say is that marriage has zero benefits for a man yet carries huge risks. How careful do I need to be in selecting a wife to start seeing the rewards of marriage?
I date women, but I won't move in with a woman. I always wear a condom no matter what she says.
Forget about labels like MGTOW. Just look at a relationship like you would applying for a job, or buying a house. Consider the risks and the rewards and make your choice. Accept responsibility for your choices and learn from your mistakes. If someone wants to be left alone, respect their decision instead of calling them paranoid. We don't know what people have been through, and it's not our place to judge others.
Well, I can't explain the benefits of marriage without going into, what I feel would be to you, some wishy washy monologue about another person being able to bring out your full potential or inspiring some change you wouldn't have done otherwise if you ever tried to do it for yourself. I don't know enough about how an increase in married couples with long lasting relationships could improve society or anything like that, but I'd like to think there is some.
Men have gotten it hard from third wave feminism in recent years and a divide has been growing between men and women as a result, but I think the worst thing to do for repair is to cut the cord on forming long lasting relationships.

He isn't right about everything but, at least he's putting it out there. I don't agree with him on this one but I respect his position. Most MGTOW I know, haven't "sworn off" all women, we just haven't made 'finding' one a major part of our lives. Yes, some have come out of really horrible relationships but there is a lot of truth to the legal system bias and other issues that typically penalize men. We could look at custody, child support, alimony and other statistics to prove as much.
So men are being more cautious and yes, some are swearing off the whole damned thing but there are valid reasons for that too.

This interview is old. Peterson's view on MGTOW has changed since then. More importantly he had the balls to apologize when he was wrong about MGTOW.

Huge respect for Dr Peterson. I wish I was 10% of the man he is. But MGTOW is not about women at all. Women don't come in the picture at all. MGTOW is about you and your personal and financial development..
I beg to differ. The largest public community of MGTOW right now is their subreddit. Go take a look at the subreddit and observe the rhetoric of these men. It’s ALL about women - much of it incel-like hatred of them, as a matter of fact.
You can say what MGTOW is “about” all day long, but people are going to by what these guys are actually saying and doing, not the proposed abstract tenets of their ideology.
As a MGTOW, I can assure you of a few things:
1. Very few of us came to be MGTOW by observation and reasoning alone. Even I, who mostly drifted away from the amount of work getting and keeping a relationship requires had to be pushed by one or two painful experiences. For most men, it requires a huge deal of pain to adopt this set of ideas.
2. Whether or not you come to MGTOW through observation / reasoning / trauma, the idea your previous worldview was a lie is itself immensely painful. The reaction to this is commonly referred to as "Red Pill Rage". It includes indignation and anger toward female nature, not because of female nature itself, but because said female nature was obfuscated from them. And because other men who are still plugged to the matrix amplify the female nature's destructive power.
Men don't fear women. They fear the sway women have over other men.
3. Men and women suffering from indignation, pain, a feeling of betrayal and other symptoms of having a comforting delusion destroyed are more vocal than people who have accepted reality for what it is. Especially if the communication mean is simple and easy to use (compared to say, a well-made and well-rehearsed RUclips video). So OF COURSE the sub-reddit has a lot more angry, impulsive comments.
*I don't blame you for getting the idea that MGTOW is a hatred of women from the sub-reddit. And frankly, it doesn't matter even if it IS the case:*
Whether MGTOW exist or not, whether MGTOW becomes a public target or not, whether MGTOW becomes reason enough to shame and ridicule celibate men or not, whether the MGTOW becomes a terrorist group or not, *marriage is a bad deal and men are going Galt.* So, as a society, take MGTOW as a warning and correct course...

I agree, there are many angry men out there, and many exude hatred of women, but it is a process derived from their "Red Pill Rage". A rage that comes from a family court system that rips a father from his family & home. 70% of divorces are filed by women.

WOMEN did not create the no fault divorce, people were making up reasons to get out of marriages LONG before the no fault divorce was in play. Including the man and a fictional mistress would be walked in on by the woman so that they could have grounds for a divorce. Also the birth control pill had a huge rippling effect (a man created the birth control pill btw) on the need for marriages, as now women could control the reproduction and no longer needed to a man to provide for the children. So don't blame marriages falling apart on women. It's society (as in MEN AND WOMEN) as a whole, we are less dependent on each other to survive day to day so marriages are not as critical for life as they once were. So stop blaming your problems on someone else and be a man for once in your life...

I was born in 1948, grew up in the 50s and 60s. Divorce then was like a curse, a shame on the person experiencing it. Not now. I got married had two boys, divorced etc. Wife got everything but the boys quickly ended up with me and I raised them. My son did the same thing raised my grandson. I look around my neighborhood and circle of friends and find many cases of men raising their families while the ex wife gets off Scott free. BTW my sons no longer speak to their mother. Figure that one out Jordan.
I love Jordan Peterson, and I accept his point that a normal relationship with a woman is the best way to have a fulfilling life. However, women today are so completely toxic, the culture is so anti-male, the laws are stacked against us, and what's worse, most young women today have had multiple sexual partners and there is ZERO social norms left that's still enforced to limit the worst aspects of women's behavior. Given the circumstances, no man should pursue a long term relationship with a woman, no man should ever live with a woman and no man should ever marry a woman. Any man who does so is literally playing Russian roulette.

Im in my early thirties, divorced for about 5 years now and lost everything i worked for in my 20s do to a woman that decided well she no longer loved me and found someone else that didn't work two jobs to help set up a life for ourselves. Now i am lucky that i had no children with this woman and no alimony payments which she would only of gotten for a short time cuz she got remarried within a years time of our final paperwork. That being said i was cautious to whom i married i thought dating for 5 years before proposing. But then on a dime she changed into someone i didn't know. I admit i wasn't innocent i chose to grind work but so we would have a good start in life she couldn't wait a few years till we had things payed down and could relax a bit and enjoy life. Now i have no reason i even wish to date, adog has shown me more loyalty and companionship than any of the women ive been in relationships with. I think it is wise for a young man to set your life up for yourself first. Buy a house get a prenup if you decide to marry protect yourself and maybe we need to band together to lobby for changes in laws for more equality of men.

I have great respect for Mr. Peterson and am glad that he has revised his opinion about the MGTOW movement. He is correct in that it can be construed as pernicious in that it is a highly charged emotional subject as pertains to both sexes. I have been single for 14 years and it is an evolutionary process. I will sum up my interpretation this way. There are good women to be found but the atmosphere is so highly charged that men become exhausted jumping through hoops and the penalties are much like a circus animal that can no longer perform..... They are now disposable. I think my father said it best.... whom my parents just celebrated their 60th anniversary... Getting married young you have no choice but to work and grow together. My father provided stern support and discipline from a justifiable distance, which I now credit to my success. My mother threw me and my sister out at 11/13 years old respectively and dad took us in with open arms. She has no capacity to understand why she presently has no friends, income, or support. There is something to be said about the spoiled western boom generation and their arrogance. Regardless of the system, if you act like a PoS you will get yours.

True story:
I asked a third party girl if they knew the name of a girl i described to her. She immediately went on the offensive and acted very mother hen like asking numerous questions of extreme nature. Brought it back to the point of, i thought she was pretty and cool and we had like interests and causally hit it off but an outside interruption robbed me of getting her name. The third party exclaimed that unless i state my real intentions there was no way i was getting it what i sought. She came of as crazy and over zealous, i just threw my hands up and said nevermind, if you could not see from our own interactions that im a good person you wouldnt know a decent one anyways. Then she broke into a crazy rant about me being creepy and this must be for illicit purposes. Even after explaining thee entire situation.....i felt wounded to say the least. I just let it go.
Cut to about a month later, myself and my daughter went to a private swimming beach in a very out of the way area, a trial to get there for sure. No tourists and garbage about or crazy people, just an all day break picking rocks and wading and quality kid time.
After a few hours i settle in the shade for a nap after lunch and kiddo decides to pick more on the banls below the rocky wall. An low and behold aforementioned pretty girl and crazy girl and another chick came upon my kid and set up next to her and began chatting away on an on. And my kid who got the biggest sundae out of this btw, just rambled at length of how great a day it was and great dad i was for bringing her to our family getaway locale, laying it on rather thick and could do nothing but chuckle the whole time in my hidey spot above. Cut to food pangs exclamation from kiddo and said she had to leave, they asked where is this wonderfulesqu dad figure, as i interject with clearing of my throat. With heads turning and jaws agape i couldn't have set the stage better for thoae looks than if it was on the big screen.

IMHO - Divorce Corp should definitely be watched by any couple planning to get married, as the family court system (USA) does not work in favor of family where children need 2 parents and a stable home.
That said, a young couple (madly in love) usually are oblivious & can't see the pitfalls ahead, hence a 50+% divorce rate.
The documentary gives a reality check, and might give the couple cause to check in on their motivation to marry and parner choice.
But, love is blind & def.... 😉
For me, being a middle aged male, marriage is out of the question!

These lessons stopped me from repeating any mistakes and enabled me to retire at 50 with NO debt and the ability to start a new career of my choosing. That "50% divorce rate" is not per marriage, as is commonly attributed.
It's "50% of all marriages end in divorce EVERY YEAR".
The REAL and telling statistic is that only 7% of marriages last until one spouse passes away.
Stop and consider THAT.
As a habit, I watch an entire video without dismissing it 90% of the time. This almost made the other 10% before the main point even started! Since I barely watched long enough to see it, however, I appreciate that he re-thought his position a bit.

when I was going through my big divorce breakup I went to that group and listened to alot and came to a conclusion that I cannot go on hate race hating gender maybe its just mismatched values etc so the balance has to be found learn knowing characters etc may it be well with you

I like MGTOWs as well. I don't think I will follow their path but I definitely understand their caution.
When they reach old age, with no childrens or grand childrens and alone without companion. I'll bet they would look back to a time of youth and wishing things were different.
MGTOW, to me sound like a bunch of fragile wimps that is too afraid of getting rejected, getting hurts. Guess what? You are not the only one! How people carry themself afterward speak volume about the strength of their character.

This is my first time hearing about the movement, but as a woman watching the way this third wave of feminism is going, I almost can't blame them. Those naive and self-centered woman who claim to be feminists and try to convert other women into their new religion of man-hating are absolutely undeserving of a good man. Good men don't need to be brought to their knees or laid out by evil woman. Unfortunately, as a woman myself, this makes me so sad both that there are pushy, disgusting feminists on one far end of the spectrum and MGTOW on the other far end. Except that one is responding to the other, that being MGTOW.
I would say though, that running away altogether is not the answer. You just give those nasty bitches more of a foothold. But that's your choice.
I'm almost considering starting a movement for REAL WOMAN. I can't fix the courts or the system... but maybe I can at least prove that there are still good people with two X chromosomes out there.

Blaming all groups is not the answer but what he states is also not the answer in my opinion. And yes I understand the MGTOW and though I'm not part of the movement myself I sympathize them because what some of them went through is pure horror. I don't trust most women also and from my experience you give them a finger and they swallow your arm...and they ask for more when you just can't give more! Well screw that....

I was unaware of MGTOW until about 3 weeks ago. I gave up trying to date around 8 years ago after going through the absolute ringer with every type of woman. From baby crazy to forever hard to get and not once did I have the upper hand in the sense that I had dominance over a situation without resorting to rude or even physically violent and unacceptable behavior. Our society is built towards blindly believing women no matter the situation and my generation was raised to value masculinity above all else. It's a powder keg of emotions waiting for the right match to strike and 9/10 times our lives or reputations are permanently altered for the worse no matter the outcome of integrity. Being alone and working towards bettering myself as made me an emotionally, financially and physically productive member of society with great hobbies and friends as well as a job in an essential field that's stable. All without a women's touch or opinion or presence. I do miss it but after a tug and a shower I shake my head for thinking about what chores and errands I'd be nagged to do or argue about instead of being free to do WHATEVER the hell I want. I'll keep things simple and uncomplicated thanks.
MGTOW is men leaving women not the other way around and MGTOWs can still have relationships and get women like dr Peterson said we dont get into relationships past common-law relationships. it's not that we can't get relationships. you don't sound like an MGTOW.

I love Peterson. He’s intellectual and he always delivers. It’s not the woman or the man, it’s you. Stop looking for chemistry, observe behaviour. Observe action. Take care of yourself. Divorce is not an option. More people need to adopt this. Marriage is for life and only in certain situations, like cheating, rape, emotional, sexual, physical and mental/narcissistic, divorce is permissible. Choose your partner wisely! Good looks won’t raise your kids! Being rich won’t raise your kids! You must respect each other. We want to be understood - that’s our human psyche.
So true that the sane women need to stand up against feminist craziness. But we have the same problem JBP outlines. Ideas and words are our only defense, too, so no difference there. We all have a voice and can use it. His just happens to be being heard around the world right now. And it’s not as though most women are feminists. I heard someone citing 18% the other day of women who call themselves feminists. I don’t know the accuracy, but from my experience, feminists are a small minority of women. And that’s even including the number of women who call themselves feminists only because they’ve bought into the, “It’s just about equality,” bs. The problem is, this minority of women is very vocal, and it holds the reins on most systems of power, if counting male feminists. The good news, however, is that the silent majority is becoming a lot more vocal. And shifts like Brexit, Trump’s election, show that feminists are losing control of the reins (not that Brexit had anything to do with feminism per se, but Brexit shows the mental shift away from the side that feminism is in bed with.). So chins up, sane ones! It is working. Be nice if MGTOWs could join us and work towards less division and polarization in our world and a healthier society through healthier individuals, healthier relationships (just in general, but male-female relationships, too, of course) and healthier families. I don’t care if they go their own way and eschew marriage for themselves, but the general anti-marriage, anti-women rhetoric I see being spewed online, how is that helping anyone, even the MGTOW himself? Those kinds of mindsets don’t make the holders of them more sane and healthy. I think that’s Jordan’s point. Of course, not all MGTOWs. But like the feminists, it’s really the unbalanced ones that seem to be the majority. Or at least the most vocal. And their disingenuous, “We just ask to be left alone. We’re not trying to influence anyone else. We don’t hate women. We’re just tired of the pedestal society has them on,” is really equivalent to the equally disingenuous feminist, “It’s just about equality. We don’t hate men!”

Jordan, get over yourself. While it's good you realize your own errors, MGTOWs are independent and intelligent enough that we don't hang on your every word. Sadly, you missed the positive benefits of MGTOW (in terms of personal freedom, growth, and independence). There is a reason why men choose this lifestyle and it's not because they're bitter about women; they just realized that marriage is not the lifestyle for them. Considering that the divorce rate hovers around 50%, *more* men not less should consider MGTOW.
And women are the initiator of divorce.
Woman meet guy in college. Guy is playing sports, following his passion. But once the woman locked her way to him, everything changes. Now that he's fat and has given up most of his life for her ideal future and family she realizes she needed a different man and thus the divorce.
Men don't understand this. It's really a typical story I've heard all the time.
Sounds sad and lonely.. why not fight for change? I.E. the courts
