Things To NEVER Say To Someone With Anxiety
If you suffer from anxiety I’m sure you’ve been told these 2 things before
If you don’t suffer from anxiety but you know someone who suffers from anxiety make sure you don’t say these 2 things to them!
    1. Just get over it
    2. Calm down
You can’t just get over it, you can’t turn off emotions or how you feel
You can’t just calm down or just relax, if it was that easy or simple everyone would do it
Has anyone ever said these to you?

Emma Telepo there are different types of anxiety. You don’t necessarily have to have panic attacks to have anxiety, but I agree with everything that you’re saying. It’s so annoying.

I've had anxiety attacks and then compared them to when I'm just nervous or crying and dear lord everyone needs to shut the hell up or I'll faint. For me I hyperventilate, cry, scream a bit if you talk to me and this can go on for hours. My longest has been 5 hours. Because mine were so long we got pills and now they're just a few minutes. Anyway they aren't something to assume you've gotten because having them every month and a week/weeks apart isn't nice. This is for me personally. My shortest has been a week apart. For me my pills (if you're looking to get some these are just mine) they make my cheeks itch a tiny bit, I get sleepy and need to lie down. Followed by a few hiccups and done. I suggest if you're getting them every month/few weeks like me and they last such a long time to go see a doctor and get pills. Before getting mine I'd be crying for hours and my eyes would hurt and it just wasn't nice.

    • @antidelusionalpeeps
      @antidelusionalpeeps 5 лет назад

it's not even about the panic attacks because you can have anxiety without having attacks, but anxiety is there every day, destroying you inside because you're worrying and overthinking way too much over irrelevant stuff. You're literally a prisoner of your anxiety, it is controlling your life. It's not something you "sometimes" have. So it sucks when people think they know what you're going through when in reality they're only stressed and can live well with their so called "anxiety".

I usually tell my best friend when, for example before a class, I get anxious. I tell her that I feel cold but at the same time I’m sweating a lot especially from my hands, that I’m shaking and can’t control it and that I find a little difficult to breath and she’s like “well it happens to me too: I feel cold for no reason and that’s anxiety, but it’s not that big deal it just goes away”. Dear I don’t feel like you, and you’re not helping me underestimating the problem

I suffer from social anxiety but I do really well at work because I work by myself. I have not been able to go places by myself or large places with my family for almost a year now. My mom asked me earlier today if I would go to church for Christmas eve service and just the thought of that started making my chest tighten and my breath hard to catch. It just seems like no one understands that this is something that I can’t just turn off and on. Any advice?

You can't be anxious over nothing, dimwit. There's always a reason for why you fear a certain thing. Maybe you mean a "good reason". Anyway, if that's what you meant, no shit, Sherlock. Anxiety is the result of fearing something more than you should, it's not a normal response to many problems that appear in our lives. Get educated on this specific topic

    • @retrothecake
      @retrothecake 4 года назад +1

@@kronodeus2022 I think you should be educated you sound like a complete fool of course you can be anxious about nothing whether she means anxious about nothing as in the physical form of no existence in which nothing shows to exist then I can back her up and say I have anxiety about that sort of stuff and especially death and being dead. I have panic attacks about that stuff. Or if she just gets anxious about nothing and just throughout the day that also makes sense. That's the whole point of anxiety I mean in school my heart is always racing and I can never concentrate and for you to say all this stuff is totally just stupid and you need to go learn a couple of stuff before you talk to people like this you scum

Things are hard with an anxiety disorder for me. Nobody knows about my disorder so that makes it even harder.. my sister Katie tells me “ugh don’t be lame” “why are you acting likeee thisssss ugh” it hurts me so much. She doesn’t get it. It hurts. So. Much. It’s just when I get fatigue or the little bit of depression I get from mine. I shake and have my head CRAMMED with thoughts EVERY. SINGLE. DAY. Along with my heart racing and with me feeling like I’m choking. I need to just be alone sometimes but now I’m just “the one who stays in my room” in my house according to my family. No one in my house gets me or what I’m going through.

I have anxiety where I dont remember a single day of my life for the past like 4½ years (idk I wasn't really counting) where I didnt think I was going to get murdered or something bad was going to happen when I go out it public. It can be really difficult to the point where I dont want to leave my house or....anywhere, sometimes I don't want to exist because I'm so stressed out any where I am. Even at home, even tho I live in a quiet place in the country with a neighbor that lives about half a mile away and is very friendly. I can be having a good day and then, boom. There is the distinct heavy blanket of irrational panic that goes over me. And even the smallest things can set it off, like someone in a store I'm in is walking kinda fast behind me, or the store has alot of people, or no people at all. Really anything. Or I can be sitting at home and hear a airplane and think "omg, that's a bomb I'm going to die right in this moment". Or hear subtle noises in my house, like ya know ..... house noises, and freak out like "there is a murderer in my house that is going to kill me rn omg omg". I know I'm being irrational but cant help but fear everything, even when I know its probably not that I still think it is that, that doesn't make very much sense wording it, but in my mind it is very real. So it's like a endless cycle of thinking I'm going to die. I dont know how to ask for help, but I'm still starting counseling, soon. I hope....so yeah, I dont know what triggered this whole thing to happen, but it did. So that's my experience, just wanted to say that for a long time. Okay buy :)

I don't know if it's just me but "calm down" when spoken by my partner actually calms me down. I've had a series of what I assume to be panic attacks in public recently and he often says "it's okay" or "I've got you" or "calm down, you're safe" and that actually helps me. Then helps me with breathing and helps me out of that situation. When in a shop, got me to help push the trolley so I could steady myself or offered his arm like I was a little old lady who needed help crossing the road. He really is an angel to me and I hope that everyone can find someone like him as he means everything to me.

    “I get nervous too”
    “Relax! It will pass”
    “Just don’t stress about it”
    “Calm down and chill! “
    “There’s nothing to worry about”
“Why are you worrying alot, someone/other have worse problems than you”
These words mostly came from my family and close friends.
Sometimes i just hide my emotions because i feel like i’m being blamed and selfish..
I wish i knew what is happening to me.. i wish i knew how could i stop this..
i wish i could control it “anytime” it’s hard when it hits you at any time.

I've heard all of these, the ones that engraved in my mind are:
"Everything will be okay", "everyone has problems", "be strong", "I'm there for you" and they say they understand and they'll listen to me but proceed to cut me off while talking. People are merely curious, not concerned. I completely stopped sharing how I feel with anyone. Everyone turned out to be the same. They suddenly turn into Philosophers or something and start giving lectures, I could tell they feel powerful in that position. They enjoy it.

i hate it when my friends say stupid shit like “omg tie your shoelaces that’s giving me anxiety” like no hun, that’s not gonna give you anxiety. that just makes you slightly irritated. people nowadays normalise these mental illnesses and make it seem as if it’s “cool” they all claim they have these illnesses yet if they actually had it then they wouldn’t be able to handle it. they cry once and say “it’s my anxiety” or they get nervous for a test and say “my anxiety goes through the roof whenever i walk in and see an exam paper” that makes me so mad. i get they may not understand what anxiety truly is but people need to stop normalising it and recognise that people are truly suffering and still have a smile on their faces, it’s not for attention, it’s not because they think it’s cool, it’s because they are screaming within and are hurting everyday. thanks to you, and this channel, i am going to finally tell my mum, tomorrow, that i have anxiety. i’m really scared and idek how to start the conversation but all i know is i’m going to do it because it’s been a long time coming, so thank you xx

My parents have said "you're a big kid now" and "just get over it", "you can do it, but you aren't trying". But little do they know that I am trying my absolute hardest. Its just not that easy. I cant just 'get over it'. If i could get over it, it would save me a world of problems. Its like nobody believes me when i say i have social anxiety. One time when i was younger, i was at a skating rink with my friends. I wanted an Icee so I asked a friend to get me one. I tried but i couldn't do it. She was like "why can't you do it yourself?" I told her i have social anxiety. She didn't believe me, started saying I was a faker and I am perfectly capable of doing it myself and to get over it. I wish people that don't have anxiety would understand how hard it is for the people that do.

It's like how I was told that everyone is constantly in pain and you just have to push through it. Turns out most people aren't in pain 24/7 and don't hurt so bad they literally have to crawl to the bathroom just across the hall after work and can hardly pull themselves off the ground. I still don't know what's wrong with me because the doctor thinks I'm too young to have joint isuues, and sometimes I feel like maybe it IS normal and I'm just being a crybaby and everyone else in the world really does just push through it.

I suffer from social anxiety and a couple of times people have told me that I shouldn't be worrying what other people think of me or that it's just a waste of time. One of the most annoying things I've experienced is when people start telling me about one time where they felt a bit uncomfortable while being in a public place. And I'm like "thanks, Try multiplying it by 10 and try going though it pretty much everyday... That's how I feel, so please stop" and then they accuse me for exaggerating.

    "Grow up"
    "Just calm down"
    "Relax you'll be right"
    "Toughen up"
"You dont want to get better you just want attention"
I have these things said to me by parents, family and friends. It's hurtful and cruel and this is why I feel so many people do try to harm themself because people don't listen or want to care unfortunately and these same people will then post about how mental illness is real on social media and it is very frustrating.

It’s maddening because my mum would tell me stuff that’s not as clearly as ridiculous. She’d tell me to start talking with people (relatives on the phone, going outside and talking to cashiers and waiters for her, talking to people at school, etc) and I’ll “slowly” start to improve. The thing is, she isn’t a patient person and expects me to do this and only this and that when I refuse, it’s because I’m not willing to push myself A BIT to get better. She expects the whole process to take like 2 weeks before I’m perfectly relaxed every time I talk to anyone. Would be nice if that was the case. I don’t know how to explain that things aren’t as simple as that.

"Whats the worst that will happen"
    "ok, and you survived"
    "You'll be fine"
"You need to stop over analyzing"
    "You're overthinking it"
    "You need to chill out"
"Why are you so worried about it, nothing is gonna happen."
Social situations terrify me, especially ordering food, asking someone something, and I constantly think every person hates me at any misjudgment I make on any small detail. I get constant nightmare of people leaving me and judging me and hating me. I lose words and don't know what to say in situations and then I feel stuck. I feel stuck infront of someone stuttering and not knowing how to speak, only furthering my embarrassment and fears.
I don't know why I feel this way. Yes I survived but I know i'll have to get STUCK in those same situations again and again and again. I won't be fine...I'll feel awful. I cannot simply stop over-analyzing, sometimes I don't even know what i'm analyzing im just scared of the situation itself for what seems like no reason at all. I want to chill out, I wish I could chill out, but I get scared knowing soon I will have to be in those situations again. Nothing is gonna happen, I'm worried because I don't want to feel so scared of a social situation, but I do anyway. I want it to stop I want to stop thinking people are constantly judging me and hating me over one small thing I do like "Oh i typed something a certain way they must think im so weird" "they stopped replying because they weren't interested" "Oh they didn't say hi back this morning...they must have been annoyed by me..."
I hate this mentality and I don't know how to escape it. Being told constantly exactly what I'm doing as if it'll fix it... Please stop telling me I'll be ok, I won't. I'll be terrified. And I don't know how to NOT be terrified.

I’ve had a member of staff tell me to calm down, it kinda went like this~
‘ Keera, just calm down already. No need to get so nervous. ‘
‘ Mrs.. Do you suffer from anxiety? ‘
    ‘ No. ‘
‘ Exactly so fuck off. ‘
Now, cussing at 12 is not good, but honestly I’ve been suffering with depression and anxiety since I was 3, heck maybe younger. So if I could calm down I think I bloody will. I got sent to the head teachers office for doing so I got a warning ( after a lot of explaining), while walking out I passed by the teacher and flicked her off, I don’t have her anymore, heck she left and went somewhere else after a week.
Also, people saying ‘ cheer up ‘ or ‘ get over it ‘ ‘ it’s in all in you’re head ‘ ‘ you’re making me feel bad ‘,
I’m sorry, shall I just disappear like I have been for the last 9 years? ‘ Oh what’s that? ‘ ‘ Don’t worry it’s just Keera. Don’t get too close she’ll drag you down into the pot of sadness. ‘
I mean fuck me. Sorry language, but honestly I’m surprised I haven’t turned to self harming or you know.. It’s hard and for a 12 yr old, being told all of that just makes me wanna scream. I’m not happy with myself, so telling me that isn’t going to help. ( Being any age and being told that makes me wanna murder the person who said that to anyone. )

I personally think that "well there's nothing you can do about it" to be the most annoying thing that someone can say. Because Im not stupid, I know I cant change it. That is part of the reason why I'm so anxious in the first place! Its that that feeling of helplessness that can put me in a really bad headspace, and if I don't already have a full blown panic attack, I will now.
