If I ever need to cry, I listen to this song. Both the arrangement and lyrics are just gorgeous.

I'd never heard this before until not so many years ago. I begrudgingly attended a choir performance at a local middle school and some forty or so minutes into the performance I suddenly found myself fighting back tears as these words were so beautifully sung by an older group of children. It will remain one of my favorites.

In Flanders fields the poppies blow
Between the crosses, row on row,
That mark our place; and in the sky
The larks, still bravely singing, fly
Scarce heard amid the guns below.
We are the Dead. Short days ago
We lived, felt dawn, saw sunset glow,
Loved and were loved, and now we lie,
    In Flanders fields.
Take up our quarrel with the foe:
To you from failing hands we throw
The torch; be yours to hold it high.
If ye break faith with us who die
We shall not sleep, though poppies grow
    In Flanders fields.

I remember singing this with my middle school choir at our spring concert at the end of eighth grade! Thinking about the significance of this poem today, years later on Memorial Day 2021!
