Game: Rugrats: Search For Reptar
Platform: PS1
Release: 1998
Rugrats: Search for Reptar is a platform video game that was released in 1998 for PlayStation in North America and in the PAL region by THQ. The game is based on the popular Nickelodeon cartoon Rugrats which aired from 1991 until 2004. The game follows the main character of the cartoon, Tommy Pickles, who has lost his Reptar puzzle. It features stages that are typically based on episodes from the television show.

This game was so scary because of its sound effects and the fact that there was not a living soul around apart from the character you were moving around. Still love it.
Isn't it ironic that a game aimed at little kids is able to scare us more than an R-rated horror movie?
The characters feel so soulless. Even when you do the hide n seek mission. Everything just feels off.
The older I get, the more I wonder how earlier episodes of Rugrats didn't traumatize me as a kid.
Loved Rugrats. Still do.
fr groundhog day bad acid trip vibes
@@cybernautadventurer Actually, this game was meant to be aimed for kids of ALL ages. Just like the TV show. Lmao 😂
It's crazy how long this game felt as a kid. Like I would spend days playing it, and it felt like eternity.
I didn’t have a save cartridge for my ps1 for some reason. It really was an eternity when you had to start at the beginning every time you played 😂
@presumablyaury7965 bruh I'm pretty sure the same thing happened with me lmao I didn't even know they existed back then..
@@SCHMKTV The graphics for this game are weird.
@@GabriellovescatsIt’s a quarter of a century old
But at the same time, sometimes i'm amazed by how much i was able to play through these games at such young ages
This game actually had a lot of scary elements : the ghosts, robot toys, goose maze, spaceship robots in the vents, lobsters. But somehow the characters and music made it loveable
The pyramid in golf!!
@@lewiswoodhall Yes! It terrified me at 8 years old
Why hello there, old sports
Was terrified of the goose maze 😂
Mr. Friend....
I loved this game as a child. I’m 28 now and it’s amazing to see it again
Mike Jim same here dude
Same here
Same but the show not game
Exact same. Played it on a demo disc and we got our mom to rent the actual game from blockbuster and i thought it was one of the craziest games ever at the time.
Exactly the same. I turned 28 a few months ago. It was a simpler time aha.
This game was so weird and unique. The upside down mirror level, and that ending where you control reptar and basically level a city, those were like straight up fever dreams.
Oh my god. The upside level was a memory so deep in my brain I had completely forgot about it until now. By gawd
bro the final level against the giant raptor scared the shit out of me
@@Dr.TreesWorth That level was really odd, I honestly couldn’t remember if it was real or if I dreamt it. Ironically it was real but in the game it was Tommy’s dream.
Mr Feind and the Voyages of Cynthia were the worst for me!! Buy yeah running from the “Kong” was always terrifying!
A fever dream is exactly how I’d put it. What on earth was this game?😩
1:11 you can hear his atrocious theme, playing in the background. He is near, those kiddings are not safe anymore.
He is hiding within the Aubergine blocks.
God I miss playing this as a kid. Take me back to when things were simple!
Take me there, I wanna go there
Take me there, let's go there
Take me to that great place
With wonders and wishes
Yes sir :(
This game proves how important music and sound effects can be in terms of memorability for video games. Creating a unique atmosphere players feel captivated by is just as important as the actual gameplay imo. Good gameplay makes you want to play more, but the way a game makes you feel is what you remember
This was one of the first games I ever played when I was a child and even as I turn 21 this year any time I ever hear sounds or songs that even nearly mimics this game's OST I get a blast of nostalgia and I love it. Such a weird and endearing game.
The music and sound effects on this game were mortifying but good at the same time😆
Exactly! Hearing this for the first time in 20 years (I’m 25) and it’s wild how much I remember this deep in my mind. What deep memories to pull up.
The most recent game i recall where i feel like it could have this exact effect based on music and sound effects on kids is High On Life
😊 my father used to play this when he was my age
Loved this video game it’s been literally 20 years since I’ve seen this.
Same here
So why u edit your comment?
I still remember that I pasted every level
Same here lol. I used to think the graphics were amazing
Same here, I just put on rugrats for my kids on hulu, thought I'd check out the gameplay of this again. Wow time flies
this game scared me as a kid, and hearing the music as an adult gives me ptsd
I can't believe it! So I wasn't the only one?
@@CantusTropus and to add insult to injury, english is not my mother language, so as a kid hearing the characters with different voices and not able to fully understand them made it worse
The night mission with the ghosts always scared me as a kid 😅
The level in the toy store and the Mr Friend parts always screwed me up
@@ajpatch1596 Mr Friend, Upside-Down and Aliens was so scary.
Game was a lot shorter than I remember. I have a lot of good memories with this
I remember a level in a toy store and one in a supermarket that don't appear in the video, so it might have been longer after all
As I had no memory card, this was the saving grace. It would be the first time I marathoned a game as a kid, and so grateful for the Reptar ending.
It probably took longer because you would have been a child playing it so you wouldn't have been able to figure out how to play as good as you would as an adult and it could be you also took brakes playing the game
@@soulvey yes me 2
@@soulvey Are u talking about a mixed level right? Half store, half house with a garden in middle. I'm guessing we meet a glitch world.
I always loved the detail of the house and exploring it. Made me feel like I was in my favorite tv show as a kid.
Even from this day on its my fav show still.
The entire game is scary. Idk if its because of the music on most of the levels.
The reason I clicked, it looked a little too creepy
The simple geometry and graphics coding makes it uneasy. Baldi's basics follows a similar formula. Still a great game
Yeah that and the level design too.
The whole aesthetic of the game makes it look like a dream that's about to turn into a nightmare lol. Good times tho
The ghost level was scary
Oohh my god
Loved this game as a child, I'm 28 again and its amazing to see it again

Forgot about this game for 20 years. Randomly remembered playing mini golf as rugrats and watched this. Good feelings
How’s life been?
Exact same here - weird!
There was somerhing about this game that made me feel uneasy as a kid. Maybe the music or the lonely feeling of the game lol
It could be the horrible graphics too.
@@michaelbolcato192 I don’t remember the graphics being this bad 😂
I feel you. I remember some older games used to have an empty lifeless feeling to them and after hours of playing I’d feel like I was all alone in a strange world.
@@laneboy1771 Kingdom Hearts: Dream Drop Distance levels were empty to accompany its flowmation gimmick.

Dave miller yea, you are cursed.

‘Let there be light’ was the reason I was scared of the dark 😂
The whole level was freaky with the music, the dark walls, the ghosts. It was like walking all alone through a haunted house.
Played this game for YEARS. One of our absolute favorites. My sister and I have extremely fond memories, although some of the levels were actually really scary!! Thank you so much for uploading this
May be simplistic, but these were truly the games that I was truly happy playing and made me WANT to play them
Truly ??
My dad rented this for me as a kid. This brings back such great memories. Kids dont get how good they have it, enjoy it while you can.
I mean we had it better than kids do with these great games back then

As a 6 year old I loved playing as the dinosaur, best part of the game. xD
Running around the supermarket was so memorable!
Yup sure is mine tooooooooo.
The supermarket was my favorite level. The blue lobster boss was awesome.

This game was so much fun as a kid, I was so upset when it broke.
Certain levels did scare me too and that’s what made it fun.

The ghost stage was the scariest for me, and the geese one gave me anxiety xD I hate things that chase me!

I feel super vindicated reading how others felt that this game was surreal and creepy more often than not. Something about the graphics combined with the crummy sound effects and bizarre music does it for me, haha.

This game was awesome. Did anybody else experience that terrifying marching sound in the mini golf level? It was like if you backed up to the fence and looked into the woods this marching sound would start playing and you couldn't tell what was making it or where it was coming from.
Yes, I thought they were gonna sneak up on me.
I know this was 3 years ago, but I looked up this game specifically for the mini golf level, because there was a hidden Easter egg in one of the pyramids with a secret entrance and a little mini game thing (low key terrifying), so you were probably close to that entrance without realizing it
@@erinmosley429 WTF! Thank you for the info. I'm not sure I knew about this. Great excuse to pop in this classic.
@MiketheEye so funny because I was looking it up after calling both my sisters to tell them how crazy it was we found that without access to Google or RUclips to tell us where it was and we talked about how few people probably knew it was there 😂
