- We take a look at reading time signatures in today's video. We'll look at some of the more common time signatures and go over some examples. I've posted some more examples on the Odd Quartet website that you can take a look at here:

I’m here cause I needed a refresher about time signatures and have to perform a song in 9/4. Im so used to just seeing 3/4 or 4/4 and taking the easy way out. Lol, thanks for the vid. 2 years in the future

Thank you so much, I have watched so many videos trying to explain time signatures and was left still not understanding them. When I watched this video, I understood it immediately, I was amazed and stunned at how quickly I was able to understand time signatures!

At 2:00 you said there are two notes per measure, but doesn't the top number tell you how many beats there are (not notes)?
Odd Quartet: what are beets
Me: saying everything I know about beats and beets
Do you have a video that also has song examples?

do these exist, if yes kindly help understand that concept as well
Why is it that you said in 9/8 there are 3 beats per measure.. If the eighth note gets the beat, shoukdnt there be 9 beats per measure?
Great question! Sometimes there IS a difference between the number of "beats" and the top number of a time signature like 9/8. Think of "beats" like how you would conduct that time signature. You wouldn't conduct 9 separate downbeats for 9/8, you would conduct it with three downbeats (like 3/4). Each of those conducted downbeats takes up 3 of the 9 eighth notes in 9/8. I really hope this explanation helped. :)
Hey, which animating software do you use to make videos?
i think it's a whiteboard
I'm not sure the strong-weak beat part was really neccessary this early on
For me, it really helped me visualize what these time signatures sounded like
the video appears to be broken and it's quite hard to follow for me, without the visual cues - does anyone else have the problem? As it might be something for you (Odd Quartet) to look into :(
Top number is how many notes are in a measure
Bottom is what kind they are (4-quarter 8-eighth, etc)
4/4 is 4 notes a measure
6/8 is 6 eighth notes a measure
I’m still very confused but thank you
Very good but lacks real music showing how each one sounds..
1:00
Just to keep me reminded where I left off
just start by explaining what the heck is a measure?
The space between 2 bars. A bar is a line separating the measures.
measure=bar by the way. so four beats in a measure = four beats in a bar.
just for anyone whos confused like me
when you realize this is 5 years old;(...
A bit too complex for someone just starting😭
I don't know you or what you've been through, but you matter. God loves you and so do I. Believe that Jesus Christ is Lord, and believe in your heart that God raised him from the dead. Repent of your sins; repent simply means to turn away from your sins, don't keep doing the wrong things you did in the past. Be baptized; a symbol that the old sinful self is gone and a new creation is here in Christ Jesus. Follow the specific will of God for your life and you will be saved.
Too complicated for no reason..
