  • A friend gave me a bike, so I built a bobber. I've got about one month into it so far. Test drive went well, handles great and its very comfortable. I'll post more after its painted and polished. I'm up for paint idea's...?

    No trouble at all, its the first bike I've owned with shaft drive and I'm digg'n it. Much smoother, quieter, and responsive than a chain or belt drive.. and virtually maintenance free!

    Yes, the sacrificial set was damaged beyond repair.
    It sounded really cool but didn't have any power so I put the good pipes
    back on.
    Thanks and I hope to see your build video too.

    @irishboycustoms Yeah, its 2.5 mm side-wall, equal to whats already there. Also has monster 1/4 inch gussets hidden in critical places... she's tuff!

    That's what I was afraid of. I can't seem to find a 3 into 1 that sounds good. Maybe a 3 into 1 coupler and some mandrel bends for drag pipes.

    I was lucky and picked up the bike for free, and I probly spent $800 U.S. on parts. The labor involved was 6 to 10 hours a day for the entire month of September.

    Nice job on the bobber. Did you match the frame material when you decided to weld in a new top tube?

  • @4strokespec
    @4strokespec  12 лет назад

    1.5 inches diameter / .095" sidewall. mild steel "tubing". (not pipe.)
    ~The difference being that Tubing is measured from the outside and Pipe is measured from the inside dia.~

    It rides perfectly, like floating on air. All I had to do was make 1 1/2 in shims under the shock springs to compensate for the compression angle/ratio, and then I hid them under the chrome spring caps. I also made stops for the swing-arm, in case something breaks, I don't want the fender to jam up against the seat & batt box. Good Luck & thanks.

    Hey buddy how much space do u have between the frame and the ground in this build if u don't mind me asking? And do u ever have any issues bottoming out or binding up the drive shaft?

    Hi, I am doing an XS750 chopper right now, how easy was it to create a single tube backbone?
    Cheers Daniel.

    im building a bober, but im just curious how you make it a chopper? Do you lift the frame higher so the longer forks can fit? Or is it just the forks that make the difference, im just wondering

  • @4strokespec
    @4strokespec  11 лет назад

    Once I had the shocks mounted, I adjusted them to their softest setting, then I just sat on the bike and measured the amount that the springs collapsed, then built the shims to that measurement plus about 20% more. Hope this helps.

    I'm planning on doing something like this with my Xs850 how did you figure how big of a shim you needed for the rear shocks? And were their any other major calculations you had to do for anything else?

    why didn't you just make it into a hard tail while you had the bike in bits . It would have looked heaps better and ridden nicer
