There are a couple of 'fashionable' wildly over-popular choices in pocket size cameras (GRiiix, RX100vii, LX100ii) but the E-P7 beats the pants off all of them, ESPECIALLY if you already have some MFT lenses 😉, but even if bought with just the pancake kit zoom, which is streets ahead of the older 14-40 and pocketable, it's THE choice.
Your review helped me make my choice. Just got one as a little brother to an OM1. New prices were a bit steep, but now it has been around and prices are reasonable I think its one of the best EDC cameras around. It works perfectly even with some of the slightly larger lenses like the 75mm F1.8 without feeling unbalanced. Lightest pen camera ever, with a small prime it is very pocketable with a jacket. Delighted so far.

Thanks for the video. I went trade my Sony ZV1F for the Olympus EP7. I lost money on that trade but I LOVE the EP7. The Olympus color really great
What is the autofocus like compared to your Sony? How about the 4K image quality and the walking around handheld video stabilization?
I had a Fuji X100V and really didn't like it at all. For all thzg money you get a fixed lens and no weather sealing. For less than half the price you can get a nice Olympus and use any MFT lenses you have. BTW, I sold the Fuji after a year and made 300 bucks.
I've got the EP7 (and an EM1.2 ;-) and I love the on/off switch! and the colour/mono switch! and the lightness...
However, I think it has the 20MP sensor from the Pen-F in it NOT the sensor from the later OMD's. Fine by me, tho.
@mipmipmipmipmip Yes if you want an EVF. I really miss having an EVF on this baby. But! the PenF is a lot bigger and less pocketable.

@mipmipmipmipmip Depends if that's going to be your only camera. If you only want to own one camera body, then the choice is PEN-F or the supremely capable E-M5iii. Neither of those are as light and pocketable as the E-P7, so if that's a priority and you don't need a viewfinder then the E-P7 is a great choice as a dedicated EDC camera. It's also a great choice if you already own something like the E-M1ii.
The E-P7 was a let down for me. The E-P5 had the same guts as the E-M5. I had hoped the E-P7 would have the the E-M5 III guts, but instead it has the E-M10 IV guts. Great camera but I think overpriced because if you shop around you can find the E-M5 III at just a little more. Or go for the Lumix GX9, it has a swivel EVF and is cheaper.
If they combined the E-P lineup and E-M10 lineup together to continue the Pen-F form factor, and maybe add hue/luminescence control in-camera, then I think Fuji would really start sweating
The EP7 was originally launched with the 14-42 zoom and a free 75mm f1.8. If you remove the cost of the lenses (or sell them on ebay as I did) the camera body was basically free. Not sure I'd pay the price they're asking now I have to admit, but for a pocketable m4/3 with top-of-the-range (at the time) sensor it can't be beaten, there's not a hope I'm going to sell mine!
@@SimonTheAndroid wow, a free 75mm f/1.8 is an awesome sweetener. I actually quite like the lens for being a relatively small, quality telephoto. AF is a little slow for action from near to far for my tastes, but the image rendering is great.
@@RyougiVector Yep, couldn't quite believe Olympus did the deal tbh. I already had the lens, it's perfect for low light, indoor shooting when you otherwise can't get close enough.
I have and love the Pana GX9, but it's actually less pocketable because of the swivel EVF and it's a lot heavier than any of the E-P or E-PL models. I recently tried the E-P5 and E-PL7 and both had a very poor grip (more or less same grip in front of both). I have the E-PL2 and have been carrying it without any strap cause the grip is so good (I know, I should get a strap).
good video! I like photography, I have an iPhone 14 pro, I edit my photos in Lightroom afterwards. I wanted to know if this camera would give me better image quality and with the kit that it also has, I would also like to know if with the application to transfer the photo from the camera to the iPhone if it does it in raw to be able to edit on my iPad later or if just transfer the photo in jpg. regards
Certainly it’s big different.. it’s a MFT sensor which will give you a plenty of DR plus many lenses choice with organic look not clinical oversharpen one by iPhone… for Video you may use the iPhone 14 Pro… but believe me for photography is huge fun experience
Bob whats the differance between pen and Lumix G100 same sensor has a viewfinder micro 4/3 interchanging lens full articulating screen touch screen...its the same as pen.. Secondhand G100 is cheap. Sorry cant see the point of pen

This camera is quite a step down from the E-P5 in some critical areas:
The E-P7 does not have the accessory port, hence it cannot take the excellent VF-4 electronic viewfinder - that by itself is a deal breaker in my opinion for anyone with the previous E-P5 and the viewfinder.
The other quite apparent change is the inferior build quality of the newer E-P7 versus the older E-P5. The E-P5 is a solid metal build. The E-P5 comes in at 420g with its battery and memory card, the E-P7 only weighs 337g. That reduction of weight can only be achieved by sacrificing build quality. Olympus did the same when they updated the OMD E-M5 II to the OMD E-M5 III. A sad state of affairs.
The E-P5 also has better in body image stabilization. According to Olympus, the E-P5 can provide 5 full stops of compensation steps, Olympus only attests the E-P7 for 4.5 stops. I actually think the much lower weight of the E-P7 is to blame for that.
Another annoying change from the E-P5 to the E-P7 is the weaker built-in flash in the E-P7. The guide number on the E-P5 is 7, the E-P7 flash only has a guide number of 5.4 (both at ISO 100).
If you have an E-P5, hold on to it.

You only need 8.3MP to completely fill a 4k screen and this has 20MP. IQ is more lens dependent. Unless you're printing HUGE poster sized prints, no-one needs FF. It's just useless bulk that means your camera is never with you when you need it.
