Hi Jenniji enjoyed the vlog...very nicely put...on the Banana stem cutting ritual what i understood or read in google is that A representative of the groom is given the baale birud honour and he cuts down six banana stems in the traditional manner. This is symbolic of the groom's triumph over other suitors for his bride and is indicative of his warrior roots. and this also is done as respect to maternal families....

All the way from Germany to Coorg damn
I had never been to Coorg wedding but here are some facts
    * Yes! Their kodava or Coorg rituals are based on traditions of soldierly past
    * Yes! Kodava's speak different languages like kannada, Tulu or kodava as their native tounge
*Noticed something new there? There is no poojari who chants mantras. Yes! it was a new thing for me tooo
*The thing they are chopping off (Banana sap) represent the rivals or enemies who come to take off the bride I believe (it's a story - sorry I'm not coorgi)
*Their attair, the head gear, the blade, even 18th or 19th century gun powder guns are also kind of slodier thing and it's represention
*Ofcourse pandi curry and alcohol is served I mean they are coorgi's lol (wish I was one of them 🤭)
Finally the coorgi saree looks 👍

They had to fight brutal battles with muslim jihadi scoundrel king called Tipu sultan , he was like Hitler of the south india. Kodavas welcomed British because they got rid of the Tyrant Tipu sultan, and British knew they were good loyal soldiers , so lot of Kodavas joined British army and also served in WW2 !
