Maya Rudolph is actually a very talented singer, but she holds back so much, because she said she doesn't want to be compared to her mother.
Legion Ivory that's such a shame too. very few people can sing like Minnie Riperton could, I really wish she would sing for real just sometimes. only people with true vocal talent can throw it around and play with it the way she does, you know?

Maya has a beautiful voice. I just learnt who her mother was. Incredible.
She seems like the outcome of some project to build the perfect person.
In the moment of the song, it really seems like Paul is really in love with whoever he is singing with at the time. And he gets a little bit of it back just because of his charisma. He’s a consummate showman and I hate that he’s not more of a household name.

Mr. Tompkins I have been a fan of yours for a decent amount of time, and honestly this might be the best I have ever seen you be. The people of Largo are lucky to have your presence.
I think at times we forget she has her mums gift. They are so different sounding and that’s okay, maya has a sound of her own and I think her mum would be happy with that.

Two people who I already considered insanely talented, and this video amplifies their skills to a level so rare these days.
You can tell she’s not comfortable being on stage in this capacity but wow she’s good 😊 I have to imagine having a mother with a legendary voice must come with a lot of pressure. All the greats, we have a natural curiousity if their kid(s) can sing and even more so if their kid(s) will sing like them. I’d listen to a CD of Maya’s if she ever decided to put her voice out there in that capacity.

Brian Hackney It's a popular indie folk-rock song, I wouldn't expect anything of Minnie to come out in a composition like this. Plus the color and tone of her voice is completely different. I love her mom, but I appreciate Maya's sense of musicality, too. Great icon pic by the way! You all are looking sharp!
