this is so beautiful and how u mentioned the importance of the strong female lead really intrigues me, i've never seen a video so much like this, thank you for opening my eyes to new concepts! looking forward to more insightful videos :)
Key insights 💔 Love can be so powerful that it can lead people to make sacrifices, even to the point of death. 💔 The idea of women being seen as objects to complete a man's emotional puzzle puts immense pressure on them in heterosexual relationships. 🎥 The movie "Past Lives" offers a refreshing perspective by portraying a career-focused woman, breaking away from Hollywood stereotypes of chasing after a man. 🎥 Nora's character in the movie is more fleshed out and authentic than most other characters, challenging the notion that characters are merely impressions that readers fill in the blanks for. 👫 The concept of patriarchal love tropes can hinder genuine emotional fulfillment and create unrealistic expectations in relationships. 👀 "Thinking about this film should be a sign that women do not exist for a man's pleasure and to not take classic tropes and project them as your expectation." 😍 Our expectations of romantic love, influenced by Hollywood movies, can lead us to root for relationships that don't even make sense. 🌟 "The whole point of this video is to stop listening to expectations and do things that make sense for you."
I don’t normally comment on youtube videos but this movie review was one of the best I have ever watched. This made me appreciate the move more than I already did, shed a light on the plot in a different way, intelligent way! Also loved the advice at the end. This was an amazing work!
Aww this was nice, I like the music and ambience of the video and the point that love can be powerful but people have to make realistic choices that make sense.
Great video man, and I loved the fact that you told us a personal story at the end. I think you made the right decision trying to do long distance, rather than just cutting it off because of a statistical improbability. Sure you may still fall in the 98% after it is said and done. But the fact that you tried will matter. I think it’s better to regret doing it, than to regret not giving it a shot and forever live with a what if scenario in your head. Wishing y’all the best 🤙
I still admire this cineintelligence but I haven't followed it and I don't think I will anymore. To each their reality, that's right, congratulations 👍
I never considered this perspective of the film. I was simply enthralled by the magic of the love story portrayed by the beautiful short and often silent shots that told a story with more imagery than dialogue. But the movie really does portray women and men in such an abnormal way for typical Hollywood movies. The characters are so real. It’s crazy you tied this to 500 days of summer, because as your essay went along that’s exactly what I thought of. Men are often incredibly romantic and are only in love with their fantasy, whereas women are often far more realistic and want to be viewed realistically. Both of those movies absolutely bent the tropes of typical Hollywood romances that are written by dudes. Great analysis and comparison.
No idea how you have only 300 subscribers but one of the best videos ive seen in a while. Recently watched past lives recently after having things ended with my bsf of a year and a half because of personal issues so the question came up what about the future and this movie def did not help with the idea of a possible what if but great video portraying the message. Wish you well with your gf
the guy didn't want to leave his career and country for her and she didn't want to leave hers for him. if both parties do not want to sacrifice then the relationship won't work, at least one has to sacrifice something. but again if any of them had sacrificed their career and moved in with their lover, would they still be them? I am talking about when they were in college.
I felt uncomfortable once Arthur came into the picture, and seemed like a genuine partner, and all I could feel was his discomfort. So no, I didn't think the two would end up together, it wouldn't be real, our consumption of love is just twisted, if its coming from the hollywood side of things.
You can not hear too much about this cinematic masterpiece. Interesting. Some complete other out-of-the-box details maybe: it is autobiographical but of course also fiction. Who sees in NYC still Ford Crown Victoria as taxis?! I as a yearly tourist haven't seen them for ages! And a question I ask myself for months now: why, after the first meeting in Madison Square Park, is the 23 St subway station scene not filmed in the real 23 St station?
Thank you for your video, what you said is very true, that love and romance aren't portrait as it is in the movies. I found someone who I can relate to but she is married so am I , we get on like house on fire, we sort of had affair, I broke off with her but our time apart lasted 2 months, we are back together as friends, we can't be together as we bother have a daughter, with love and relationships when we had the affair, there is an expectation as I described that to her or maybe I'm just plain stupid , too indoctrinated in the idea of "real" romance that is always played out in Hollywood.
Respectfully I think you are looking at this movie upside down. This might be one of the worst breakdowns I’ve seen of this film. Yes it’s very feminist but it’s written very toxically. Nora is incredibly selfish while Arthur was incredibly giving and didn’t know how to set boundaries for himself. Its not misogynistic for a man to not let his wife walk all over him.
His age made me initially want to discount some of his words... but he spoke as a man who has loved, and before knowing his age, I thoroughly enjoyed his views on perspective. Even though it feels easy to forgo his experiences/knowledge because of age, I think instead - we should listen and learn from what he has experience to expand upon our own knowledge. He may know more about love than someone at 30 if he's truly loved deeply, which some are fortunate enough to have by 20. Not a personal attack, just I resonated with your comment and felt similarly initially. Great video Elshin, keep loving, keep learning and keep sharing. I appreciated your words today.
i hate the notion that age = wisdom. sure, it's usually true, but that doesn't mean younger people can't express their VERY interesting thoughts on things.
fair, but it's more likely than not that two decades on this earth isn't enough to learn how, not even including the fact that your frontal lobe hasn't even fully developed yet, that age likely has no idea how to fully love another let alone even know how to love one's self.....however I will relent that at that age I'm certain someone at that age fully believes that they can and has an idea of what it entails.
2:30 actually in the Bible, woman are very important! There are many woman in the Bible who have led nations and preached. So idk what you’re talking about😅
I think the point is how similar stories are often rooted in misogyny & take away a woman’s agency/personhood and make her an object to be won or a pawn but this story allows Nora to be a 3 dimensional character with agency and her own desires and identity and allows the men to be more than jealous angry men fighting over her but people in love with deep, varying relationships with Nora.
@@LeeSlayyy Romantic movies are not rooted in misogyny. Misogyny means the hatred of women, I have never seen a romantic movie where any character claims they hate women. As a matter of fact most romantic movies have elements of misandry, the hatred of men. We dont need to talk about that because its cool, we dont take yall serious anyway when yall hate men. I would say that women being viewed as a prize to win is rooted in traditionalism, not misogyny.
@@djangounchained9387 i guess sexism is a more accurate word but the point still stands. would love to hear more about the misandry claim bc it seems like you’re just saying that for the sake of being oppositional instead of explaining how romance movies aren’t inherently less favorable in its portrayal of women as nothing more than objects of desire
Sigh, I'm disappointed. I was looking forward to watching this but the nonsense spouted around the two minute mark was a complete turn off. So I'm turning it off.
Thanks for watching the video!!! If you enjoyed please consider liking and subscribing, it means so much
