    Dani isn't all alone at the end - she joins the Harga and becomes part of their hyper-empathic pagan community. Arguably, Dani was alone in the beginning; her sister committed the murder-suicide of their parents, and all she had left was an emotionally-distant boyfriend. Ritual human sacrifice aside, the Harga offered Dani a community that loves and accepts her. If you do choose to watch the movie again, you might see clues that bringing her into the community was the plan all along, just as sacrificing all her friends was planned from the beginning. Notice how when the American group arrives, the town council member says, "Welcome," to everyone else, but to Dani he says, "Welcome home."
    The table set in the shape of an "R" at the beginning is the Futhark letter "raidho." When used for divination, the rune signifies a journey.
    At the meal right before the attestupa, the table is arranged in the shape of the Futhark letter "othala." When used for divination, the rune signifies a homecoming, wisdom or an inheritance.

    The R shaped rune that you were asking about stands for "journey".

    I had a hard time sleeping after seeing this movie. It’s a new horror film set in the light of day.

    Ari Aster's previous film Hereditary is significantly better, and one of the very best horror movies ever made. At least for those who like non-basic art.

    definitely watch hereditary, its far superior and probably the best horror movies made in the last decade

    Check out The Wicker Man from 1973. Midsommar is an inferior reimagining of The Wicker Man. Wicker Man explores the old religion vs the new religion.It is a musical,mystery and a horror film. The twist at the end was one of the best.

      Inferior? Excuse me? Midsommar is much better.

    • @JC19676
      @JC19676 2 года назад

      @@darrenfreyauthor Absolutely not. The original Wicker Man is considered to be the Citizen Kane of horror films. Ari Aster was remaking Wicker Man with both Hereditary and Midsommar. He unwisely leaves that battle between pagan and the Christian religion off the table. Instead we get the horror trope of a bunch of young adults facing the horror without that cerebral theme.

      @@JC19676 it might be considered the Citizen Kane of horror to you but you don't speak for the entire world. That statement is outright laughable to me. Most of the time when you hear people talk about horror movies, you rarely hear anybody mention wicker man which is supposedly the "Citizen Kane of horror movies." Doesn't that tell you your opinion is not shared by many others if anyone at all? The concept of the WickervMan was cool but overall it was boring. This is not a remake of wicker man. It is inspired by wicker man but it's not a remake. Making a movie about a coat does not automatically make something a remake of another movie that is about a coat. With that logic, you could say any slasher movie is a remake of psycho but you would disagree with that statement, wouldn't you? If you notice, since the person who made this video didn't exactly have the most positive reaction, there are very little comments here but they are all in favor of not liking it but if you go to all the other reaction videos of people who enjoyed it, you see tons of comments of people talking and sharing their positive experience with the movie. In other words, your opinion is in the minority but it's okay because not every movie is for everyone.

      @@darrenfreyauthor Midsommar is a vacuous reimagining of Wicker Man. The concept of Paganism vs Christianity is absent in both Hereditary and Midsommar. Midsommar is nice to look at but there is no substance. I hope that Aster moves away from the Wicker Man tropes and makes a comedy. He claims he wants to make one BTW.
      The minority? HAHAHA. That is laughable. Midsommar has a lot in common with middle of the road huh horror films to be u honest. It is s pop filmmaking and not very good pop filmmaking at that.
      Once more thing. You can parse words all you want but if there was no Wicker Man there would be no Hereditary or no Midsommar. As far as I know Aster has never denied the influence to his credit.

      @@JC19676 what is laughable is you saying the movie has no substance. Were you even paying attention to the emotions the main character was feeling? If you can honestly say this movie has no substance with a straight face, you have very little life experience. You are literally the only person I've seen anywhere say anything remotely close to this. Don't let that go to your head though, it doesn't mean you're some otherworldly genius, it just means you have a very dense minded opinion along with the few others here who couldn't bother expressing how they feel in the comment section to a video that actually had positive things to say about the movie. That's why there are so few comments here and so many comments elsewhere.

    Movie sucked in my opinion. I'll watch your reaction though....
    My favourite part was when the old man fell leg first on the stones and the aftermath.
