Fun Fact: You can hear Shifu play Tai Lung's main theme in the scene where he is training the furious five in the first movie. The scene where they sneak attack him while he is playing on the flute.
Really showed how broken Shifu was he loved Tai lung more than any one could love their son, but his ambition and love for Tai Lung lead him to his arrogance and his character become one of a ruthless killer rather than the dragon warrior.
Anyone notice that Tai Lung's "dun-dun dududun" leitmotif is the same tune shifu was playing on his flute in the temple? Definitely established a connection between them early on. Shifu still grieved for his student after all those years.
more than his student... his son. The one who got away, the one who broke his heart so thoroughly that he locked it away from every other student he ever had after. And worst of all was the thing that he could never accept: that it was his own fault as much as Tai's. It's kind of like Obi-Wan's relationship with Anakin, except Obi-Wan was aware of his failings and deficiencies in training Anakin, and tried to make up for them. He never understood the true depth of his failure until his student was trying to kill him, but he did understand before that that he wasn't a perfect master. Shifu only understood when Tai Lung confronted him a SECOND time, just how much of his student's failure was his own.
Darth Knightwing Phoenix you’re right. Shifu and Tai-Lung’s relationship was similar to obi wan and anakin skywalker. Matter of fact, Tai-Lung and anakin were the chosen one. Like for instance, anakin was supposed to be the one to destroy the sith. But instead he joined palpatine and made him become blinded by his growing arrogance and darkness, which led him to believe that the Jedi was evil and obi wan as his enemy. Tai-Lung was believed to be the dragon warrior. But Shifu’s training and telling him he was destined for greatness led tai-lung to grow arrogant. And it was this arrogance that made him think he needed the dragon scroll, which gave birth to the darkness in his heart. This led to Oogway refusing to give him the scroll. Tai-Lung looked at Shifu for support, but his own master did and said nothing. This made Tai-Lung think it’s an act of betrayal and this blinded him to think it’s his destiny to get the scroll, but it made him insecure as well. But all Tai-Lung wanted was to make Shifu proud. I can see the similarities between Tai-Lung and anakin. The difference is anakin died as a hero, while Tai-Lung died as a monster.

Tai Lung: The best brawler, agressive, strong, and a beast in combat Shen: The most intelligent, elegant, so manipulator, a very dangerous conqueror Kai: The Most powerful Being, a spirit warrior, A God among Mortals
Shen definitely the best overall villain (in large part thanks to a magnificent performance by Gary Oldman), but Tai Lung had the absolute best fights. I rewatched over and over in particular the sequence when fighting Sifu he crashes into a brazier and lights his paws on fire, which triggers the fight to come to both an emotional and physical head: "All I ever did... I did to make you proud! Tell me how proud you are Shifu! TELL ME!"
@@IncPoint I absolutely adore the 3rd film. In fact, I would go so far as to say that I like it better than the 2nd film. Tai probably did have the best fight choreography though. I liked the Chi Dragon beatdown in the 3rd better, but that was mostly special effects. In terms of cool physical fight scenes, Tai Lung reigns supreme.
Aaron Schwartz Im glad you enjoyed the 3rd film. The whole chi thing just didnt work for me, and brining back Wu Gui i didnt like as well. Overall bad experience for me. Dreamworks 3rd films all been downers for me, Shrek 3, HTTYD3, and this
@Lil_ Drag69 I will admit that they treated chi like a maguffin. and that the chi dragon thing was a deus ex machina. But I really like the character interactions. Pretty much any scene with both panda dad and goose dad in it was gold. I loved EVERYTHING about the secret panda village, The whole "I dont have to turn you into me, I should turn you into you" thing is inspiring, and I really liked uugway's explanation that Po "United both the past(secret chi pandas) and future(dragon warrior) of Kung fu". But the scene at the end where the entire world has suddenly mastered their chi is nonsense
13:15 “I have always been proud of you. From the first moment I’ve been proud of you. And it was my pride that blinded me. I loved you too much to see what you were becoming. What I was turning you into.”
Kai is an awesome Kung Panda villain as Tai Lung & Lord Shen. In the 3rd film we get to see Master Oogway & General Kai backstory and if you listen carefully both Oogway & Kai were both "ambitious" young warriors leading a great army. That means Master Oogway wasn't always a pacifist in the beginning and Kai also said after arriving the Jayde Palace confronting Master Shifu & The Furious 5 he said "I loved him like a brother and he betrayed me, and now I will destroy everything he as created" General Kai has a good backstory & intentions especially his theme song 🔥 for the 3rd film I still Idk why you hate Kai as the 3rd villain? :/
Tai Lung: I'm pissed off and you'll pay! Shen: I'll rip your mind apart and make you with you were dead! Kai: Oh, I'm going to make you sorry you were even born.
11:28;Master Shifu:"You were not meant to be the Dragon Warrior! That was not my fault!"(Tai Lung walks up to Shifu, and he walks back.) Tai Lung:"Not your fault?! Who filled my Head with dreams?"(Tai Lung kicks Master Rhino's flying Armor towards Master Shifu, but he jumps back.)Master Shifu:"Huh!"Tai Lung:"Who drove me to train me until my Bones cracked?!"(Tai Lung grabs a Shield, and throws at Master Shifu, but he dodges it, and the Shield hits a Pillar.)Master Shifu:"Huh!"(Tai Lung grabs a Shack of Weapons.)Tai Lung:"Who denied me *MY DESTINY?!?!?!* "(Tai Lung throws the Weapons towards Master Shifu, but he starts reflecting them.)Master Shifu:"Ya! *Grunting* "(Tai Lung kicks a big Sword up, and kicks it towards him.)Tai Lung:"Yaaaaaaaaaaa!"(Mater Shifu catches the Sword, twirls it above himself, and then he slams the Sword on the Floor.) Master Shifu:"It was never my decision to make!"Tai Lung:"Rrrgh!"(Tai Lung dashes up towards a Table, where Master Oogway's Staff is laying.)Tai Lung:"Rrrrrrr!"(Tai Lung grabs Oogway's Staff and faces Master Shifu.) Tai Lung:"It is now."
Even being evil, Tai Lung is probably the most (and only) "sympathetic" villain of Kung Fu Panda trilogy. At least one bit. Shifu trained him hardly and made him dream about being the Dragon Warrior, but he ended disappointed. Even though Tai Lung is completely wrong and blind to his own pride and anger, I believe Shifu also has a little of fault, of course. At the first time watching, i really thought Tai Lung would change when Shifu asked sorry, but that didn't happen. And as i said, it doesn't make Tai Lung THAT tragic, he's still evil and dangerous, but at least if he had changed his mind... feel sorry for poor Shifu too, he truly loved Tai Lung. Shifu loved him too much to see the dark inside of his heart.
@Χρυσή Πετρίδου well, the furious five themselfs are kind of proud. They are not evil, but surely there is some selfish and proud feelings inside of them, something that Po has never shown, he was always sweet, humble and amazing. And ya know, it's not because he was raised by a good person like Shifu, that means he will also be kind and sweet, since Shifu himself was mean to Po in the start. So i think, after spending years training with pride and "un-humbleness" in his heart, Tai Lung went crazy when Oogway rejected him the Dragon Warrior scroll.
You do know that tai lung wasn't trying to actually fight Shifu at first when he appeared at shifu's doorsteps shifu was forcing him to fight him so if shifu wasn't going to fight him and talk through to him mabey things could have changed.
not exactly. Shen and Tai Lung are both great villains, where as Kai is an okay villain but definitely the best theme. Im saying both Tai Lung and Shen because there's so much arguments to which is the best, so it's a tie between them.
I LOVE this scene. Not only is it absolutely awesome, but when you look back and analyse everything, you get to see something remarkable. The Bridge Scene was built up from pretty much the start. I'll list several things (not really in order) that showcase what made it so amazing. I'll also bring up Secrets of the Scroll, and to whoever hasn't seen it, it's basically Tigress developing her own style and founding the Furious Five. 1. Shifu explains to Po that it takes years to develop a split and apply it in combat. He orders Tigress to do it, and you'll see she needs a moment to crouch and propel herself, shattering the stone plates Shifu threw. 2. When bringing Po to the training hall, we see Crane deflecting arrows, as well as Tigress balancing on the jade tortoise. Monkey is swinging around, and from his panting, takes considerable effort. Mantis is acting lightning-fast, barely visible, and Viper is a living whip. 3. Speaking of Viper, she's shooting around the fire pits, which is a clue for much later, including the opening fight scene, where Shifu beats all five on his own. 4. Po says to Crane "You guys beat them 1,000 to 1". There were 5,000 enemies and the five took them on 1 to 1,000. It may have been part of Po's dream regarding the multiple wolves coming from discount Sauron's palace. 5. As Tigress leaves to fight (who is technically her adoptive older brother) she leaps off of the Jade Palace and lands onto the lower houses. 6. In the flashback, we see little Tai punching that weird bobble thing, and given his small size, he was possibly around 5 when doing that. When Tigress does it, possibly a similar age, Shifu (who appears the same age as when Oogway kicks Tai's ass), corrects her stance, possibly foreshadowing the vast difference in talent. 7. In Secrets of the Scroll, Shifu opens the doors for Tigress to perfect her style, and since we saw her there in the flashback as well as Tai, it's probable that he's mastered that training hall/kwoon with masterful ease. 8. After Po got kicked down the steps by Shifu, Mantis is using acupuncture to make Po feel better. He's directly using the nerves, which is able to change Po's face in a seemingly comedic relief situation. Now, all of this ties into the Bridge Scene. With Point 1, Tai Lung presumably flings himself off a falling elevator and twists himself to kick two rhino in the face. It appears to be done with little effort, as well as how quickly he figures out how to propel himself onto the upper levels. All this after two decades in a kneeling position, which probably hurts like a bitch. Point 2, Tai Lung deflects arrows BIGGER than him with relative ease. With regarding that dome thing, we see him balancing on the bridge with little problem, casually walking on a vine meant to be used as a handrail. Fighting on the bridge, his balance is near perfect. Mantis's mentioning will play in part with point 8. Point 3 is more to do with the fight against Shifu, where Tai can use fire around his paws without hurting him. Though, he possibly did what Tigress did, and doesn't feel anything in them. Point 4, Tai Lung wrecks the thousand rhino guards, which seems awesome, but when you take into account ALL the five can do that, and he took them down on his own, it adds to his ferocity. Point 5 could be foreshadowing how Tai escaped the vine thing the Five trapped him in. Good leg strength (seen in point 1) and to manoeuvre himself in the air to land how he wishes, as Tigress did. With point 6, Tigress roughly would've been around either before or after Tai Lung was sent away, making her 26 or 27, as Tai Lung said he was away for 20 years and I'd put him around his early 20s when he went on a rampage. I'll just say he was her age when he went off his rockers. And after twenty years of imprisonment, barely able to move, he didn't have too much of a problem with her. I'll mention why in a moment. Point 7 is important because since the Five trained in there as well as trained under Shifu, Tai Lung will be familiar with their moves, since Shifu is so strict. He'll especially know Tigress', being a fellow feline. Since he studied those Thousand Scrolls, he'd be well aware of those techniques. Point 8 is foreshadowing Tai Lung's nerve strike. Like Mantis, he's using nerve points, although to cripple his enemies instead of helping them. Mantis has been shown to be lightning-fast, but still, Tai Lung truck him. If you look at Monkey when Tai Lung first struck compared to when Crane dropped him, the positions are different, so Tai Lung whooped their asses, likely toying with them. And this is why I loved that scene. The build up to it and once thinking about it, showing off what Shifu was scared of at the start of the movie. Tai Lung deserved to be respected and feared, and it makes Po's defeat of him all the more powerful. Po used an entirely new style, nothing Kung Fu had ever seen before, and like Tai Lung, was born with an innate talent for the style. Just in movie 2, Po's progressed to work seamlessly with the five, despite training for possibly a year or two after movie 1. A pair of prodigies.

It is very noticeable to leagues that Dreamworks He was so dedicated to his movies that at the time people overestimated Disney so much and now today they hardly realize how great Dreamworks was back then.
I was actually expecting to see Tai Lung in the spiritual realm or even turn into an anti-hero in the 3rd film and help against Kai, but I guess theres no room for that. I always thought Tai Lung could get a great redemption arc.

Tai Lung is one of my favorite computer animated villains of all-time. “Tell me how proud you are Shifu!” Tai Lung. I actually relate to that part quite a bit.
All the villains of Kung Fu Panda trilogy are amazing in their own ways, Tai Lung's proud and anger took control of himself and made him a dark, agressive monster searching for power and revenge against his own master. Shen is not only ungreatful to his parents and spiritually/mentally blind, but also such an inteligent genius of evil that wants to make all China pay for his own personal problem (and his parents weren't wrong, Shen was always evil and a genocide!), and Kai wanted to have literally ALL the power to himself, he defeated Oogway! And worse, he and Oogway were best friends, brothers in arms, but because of Kai's dark selfish desire, the friendship ended tragically. Notice how all 3 villains want power and revenge because they feel betrayed, when they were actually completely wrong! They are also an important (and painful) part of the 3 most important master's past, Shifu's, Po's and Oogway's. Kung Fu Panda trilogy is a masterpiece!
They mostly did it for good intentions. Tai Lung wanted to make Shifu proud, Shen wanted to earn the respect of his family and Kai wanted to save his loved ones with power.
@@guitarist2463 wtf?? Kai had no loved ones, he wanted the powers all for HIMSELF, he killed kung fu masters and panda all for his powerlust. And Shen is an evil bastard serial killer who wanted to subjudge the WHOLE WORLD, his parents were right because their son was a PSYCHOPATH.

Yeah, I mean, it certainly didn't feel like Kai got the same kind of buildup as either Shen or Tai Lung. His main characteristic was being insanely overpowered on 'spirit energy' and just being a new threat. He... didn't have the same weight as the others. Now, if we had gotten to see his history with Oogway and his fall into corruption, not just have it narrated, that might have done something.
Jake McGovern that’s what makes Me think of Kai as the overarching antagonist of the trilogy, due to being one of the reasons of oogway becoming wise, and also the most demonic.
@@mikephelps5454 Oh, sure. I agree, he could be the inspiration for Oogway's chosen life of peace. He's not a bad antagonist, I just mean there might have been a way to further explore and even add to the depth of his character.

Have you ever noticed how all Kung Fu Panda villains have a nod to their nemesis? In Kai's theme there is this part that resembles Oogway, at the end of Shen's theme you can hear that jingle representing Po, and in various moments of these Tai Lung's themes there are parts that are a clear throwback to Shifu.

But the scene at the end where the entire world has suddenly mastered their chi is nonsense

Kai is an awesome Kung Panda villain as Tai Lung & Lord Shen. In the 3rd film we get to see Master Oogway & General Kai backstory and if you listen carefully both Oogway & Kai were both "ambitious" young warriors leading a great army. That means Master Oogway wasn't always a pacifist in the beginning and Kai also said after arriving the Jayde Palace confronting Master Shifu & The Furious 5 he said "I loved him like a brother and he betrayed me, and now I will destroy everything he as created"
General Kai has a good backstory & intentions especially his theme song 🔥 for the 3rd film I still Idk why you hate Kai as the 3rd villain? :/

Tai Lung:"It is now."
@Χρυσή Πετρίδου i think the darkness inside of his heart was his pride
@Χρυσή Πετρίδου well, the furious five themselfs are kind of proud. They are not evil, but surely there is some selfish and proud feelings inside of them, something that Po has never shown, he was always sweet, humble and amazing. And ya know, it's not because he was raised by a good person like Shifu, that means he will also be kind and sweet, since Shifu himself was mean to Po in the start. So i think, after spending years training with pride and "un-humbleness" in his heart, Tai Lung went crazy when Oogway rejected him the Dragon Warrior scroll.
You’re on to something. I believe Tai Lung is the greatest DreamWorks animated villain ever, and possibly one of the best villains in cinema.
You do know that tai lung wasn't trying to actually fight Shifu at first when he appeared at shifu's doorsteps shifu was forcing him to fight him so if shifu wasn't going to fight him and talk through to him mabey things could have changed.

Adam Hersi I’d argue that Tai Lung is a better villain than shen
Adam Hersi Well, story wise as a villain. But if it was a fight, Tai Lung.

And Shen is an evil bastard serial killer who wanted to subjudge the WHOLE WORLD, his parents were right because their son was a PSYCHOPATH.

fun fact: you can hear his theme in all of the 3 movies
in what scores?
@@filipepaixao9398 it plays when po and furious five are captured and chained at the begining of the second movie when they enter the city. Po mentions the locks are the same ones rhinos used against tai lung. in kung fu panda 3 we can see the chi crystal of tai lung and hear his theme when kai flexes his powers.
