Whether such a system will actually work depends on local geography
and associated weather conditions. Weather dependent solar systems
are the least productive means of generating electricity in norther tier
climates, such as in the Great Lakes....and are nearly useless for reliable
      electricity during cloudy winter conditions.

And while Republicans get rich by screwing over the little manand exploiting and selling out our prestige natural landscape, Bernie fights for both. Who do you think the super-rich are giving money to (both legally and illegally), those who want to raise their taxes or those that want to lower them. Only the extremely rich can afford corruption, and do you think they will help politicians to get rich who want to take away more of their money to give to the poor? From what I have seen a rooftop solar system in the US is very expensive. Here in Australia the cheapest 6.6 kW system is about $3,700 ($US 2,500) and a 13.3 kW system is about $6,700 ($US 4,300) installed. This is a result of the solar panel price having dropped about dramatically last year and is expected to fall again this year. Instead of purchasing several highly polluting aircraft carrier battle groups, we could have spent the ENTIRE Department of Offense's budget on The Solarfication of America - all of America. Not just 900,000 families. But the solar project would not use up the entire DOD budget (hidden, off the book projects included), so the rest could be used on buying back stock in America by reducing the debt.
Solarfication would be just like how electricity was brought to rural America in the 1930s. Only with solar, the only cables you need are from your own solar array to your buildings that need power. This saves the cost of building an expensive network of wires across the country.

Sue I have good news for you. If you want solar energy but your housing situation does not allow for it for whatever reason (in your case the condo association) then you should look into companies like Ripple energy. Their strategy is to put the ownership of large scale energy plants for renewables into the hands of communities. I.e. the renewable power plant is partly financed by the community in exchange for an equivalent of shares in the company. That way you the consumer get to have your own renewable energy. You can be part of large scale COLLECTIVE ACTION and save on your energy bill ❤

@@jimmylieb5225 And you are a "clean energy" lobbyist?! Everything I said it's true, but they don't tell you that. When you buy solar though, they will point out that it won't be as efficient in a few years, and you will have to in 10 to 20 years buy a new one, and dispose of the old one and pay for it. What else is there they don't mention? The truth is, Americans who are comfy with their budgets have become spoiled. You can ask poor and low income families, that can't afford air conditioners. But we know lobbyists don't care about them! I remember the 90es and even the 2000s, not much has changed in climate since then. What has changed is a lot of people have air conditioners and forgot how hard it was when you had to work the fields all day long sweating your butt off, or just sitting in your room with the fan on and trying not to move and still sweating. No, it's not the same in every country every year. When some countries had fires, others had floodings. When some countries had freezing temps, others had mild winters. Come on! Scientists have always had different opinions about "climate change". Can at least the poor and low income families have a choice?

The world looks up to technology advancements and adoption. With solar the business model has gone in sales mode and not much research and development. Developing renewable energy as structural is only way to come out of the stagnation. The number of people who are willing to risk putting solar on roof top and the whole headache of removing and reinstalling when roof need repair, has peaked. You will not get any more to sign up.
Make solar and if possible renewable as structural. For example, you don't install roof if you are putting solar on the roof. The solar is the roof!

Yes, we need to provide this for ALL low-income families. Too many people are associating renewable energy with the one percent, Tesla, and Elon Musk. It should not be thought of as something that is out of reach and only for a select few. Solar and battery storage has dropped in price significantly to the point where in the near future for certain hours of the day, electricity will be completely free, if not, incredibly cheap.

Climate change and rising sea levels will make properties in low lying areas and coastal areas impossible to insure. Banks will be reluctant to give a mortgage for 15 or 30 years because the property may be under water. Selling properties to average buyers will become impossible in the future as banks and mortgage companies stop making loans for these properties. Coastal areas are a high risk for insurance and extreme weather like hurricanes. People will have to self insure and take the risk of loss. Condo associations are losing their insurance and if they find a new higher cost policy they will be passing on the higher costs to association members. Flooded cars from hurricanes were filling the salvage lots. Insurance companies will raise rates and pass on the costs and risks to policy holders next year. Coastal properties will be confined to wealthy individuals that can buy properties with cash and self insure for losses from hurricanes or rising sea levels.

The money for solar is a wonderful start, but only a start. Local communities and utility companies have not yet gotten on board. They have not been following through with timely engineering and electrical approvals on permits, even when no changes have been required. In addition, local electrical utilities have required a change in the existing meter to a new solar metering system. I have always loved solar power, but I won't pretend to know how to do these men's jobs. I do know that it only took one day to install my solar panels. However, it has taken the city engineers and utility company almost a year to complete the rest of the task of hooking my panels up to the grid, and it's still not done. I'm still struggling to pay outrageous electrical bills, while my panels are just sitting wasting potential on my rooftop. It's very frustrating.

Also, Bernie is wrong about crop yields. Warming plus adaptation is associated with a 13% increase in low latitude rice and high latitude wheat harvests.

    • @jensonee
      @jensonee 11 дней назад

      Crops
Moderate warming and increased carbon dioxide can help some plants grow faster, but more severe warming, floods, and drought reduce yields. Climate change can also lower the nutritional quality of crops by diluting the protein content, vitamins, zinc, and iron.
      Livestock
Livestock may be at risk from heat stress and reduced quality of their food supply.
      Fisheries
Changes in water temperature can make waters more hospitable to invasive species and shift the ranges or lifecycle timing of certain fish species. Productivity is expected to decrease for about half of fisheries worldwide as a result of climate change impacts.
      Water
Rising temperatures accelerate evapotranspiration from plants and soils, and areas of the world that are already water-constrained will increasingly experience adverse impacts on agricultural production through diminishing water supplies
