Thoroughly enjoyed this documentary of the young woodpecker Will!!! I visited England for the first time 2years ago & loved it so much returned last year. My husband was British & his family sent for me for his memorial. I will be watching this again as it makes me miss 💔😭 your country. God bless & thank you for a most relaxing video.
Excellent film making Trevor. Superb Narration Miss Matthews! And the Oscar goes to... Woodpecker Will for BEST New Bird in a Short Feature Film. 🎥 Good stuff.
Hi , Alejandro , Well , Woodpecker Will is is doing great ,has had two sets of offspring himself and can still be seen around the area . Thanks for your comment Elaine x x
Lovely film. I enjoy watching the little woodpecker family in our own garden so I loved this wonderful footage and excellent v/o. It reminded me of some of the old Disney live action animal films with great narrators.
Well thank you; Actually that was my first voiceover ! My husband did the film, he is a professional songwriter . Check out his RUclips chan. LIBERTY HILL SONGS and especially WILD WATER , if you like nice scenery you will love it ! Cheers Elaine
Got a pair of similar woodpeckers intent on making my home their new home, already four holes in the appron sash I've patched up. Here comes spring and another round of me vs woodpeckers. I don't know why they want my house, I'm surrounded by trees. Ohh well. DING, DING
Hello, great video! The black attackers were jackdaws, but you could hear ravens and crows in the background, and there were some crows sitting on the trees. I don't know what the light brown bird (the one that wanted to steal woodpecker's home) was tho.
It was a beautiful video and a soothing, subtle narration! These beautiful little things, though we don't give much care, happen all around us and nature is beautiful!
Hi thanks for watching my Woodpecker docu . I shot the whole thing with a cheap , ( £300 .) PANASONIC CAMCORDER .Its the only doc i have ever made, I enjoyed doing it .I am a record producer / songwriter and did it to relax ! Check out my vIds by clicking on Elain's face and click videos . Thanks again . Trevor .
Thanks for your nice comments . Not strictly true , its a common mistake . All Jackdaws, ravens, Hooded Crows , etc ( there are 11 species in all )all fall under the heading of 'Crows' . Not a lot of people know that !
@@erikholm8899 I think you mean the Corvidae family. Do you call all Corvidae "crows" in English? In German (my native tongue) we call Corvidae "Rabenvögel" (raven birds) but distinct between crows and jackdows (Coloeus monedula).
hi girl , this video was so natural and gracefull... i dont know why it spent eight yeas late to find me... very nice , great sequences , hot spots from a awesome bird , and so diferent in its way of life... kss from south brazil , another birdland
Thank you , it's the only documentary i have ever done , i am a music producer and i took a week out to film this on my £200 camcorder ! Thanks again and SPREAD THE WORD !
Very well done, i am glad you did not romanticize it except for giving names. As for the squirrel, he was the second greatest threat in this video after the nasty crows. I don't think the young woodpecker was home when that squirrel got in the hole. Squirrels kill birds hatchlings, they're not as cute as they look, there is graphic video of it on youtube. Or maybe the woodpecker was just big enough to defend itself. I am glad he made it.
Woodpeckers do take young blue tits and great tits from nest boxes to feed to their own chicks . That's just nature. Everthing even crows and squirals have there place in nature.

Woodpeckers are not better than crows in that regards, they will not hesitate to attack chicks from other birds. There's several videos evidence of woodpeckers destroying a nest by themselves
You held my attention from beginning to end. Wonderful job! I live in Massachusetts (next door to New Hampshire). I'm assuming New Hampshire got its name from the location of this video?
Animals around here don't quarrel. There's enough for everyone and it's too durn cold. That said, nobody harasses the woodpecker. Crows and Jays defer to him - it seems to me. I did once see a 'possum with a porcupine quill in his back. Not sure what happened, but there were chunks of porcupine up and down the road the next morning.

Answer to Simon Jarvis , Jackdaws , crows , ravens , etc , all fall under the general heading of Crows. I hope this is helpful .
They are all members of the Corvidae family which also includes Blue Jays, etc.
