Build Cessna Citation RC Plane from Scratch (Full Build & Flight)

- In this episode I will build this giant Cessna Citation CJ1 RC plane. I will use 6mm foam board or Depron foam for the material and will test it with pusher prop configuration and also ducted fan (EDF) for more scale look
The reason why I design the plans and build the RC plane is because of an event a "Homemade scale RC plane festival" that will be held on 20th January 2024. I don't have any big plane anymore my last big model C-130 was already sold. The announcement was on the middle of December, so I still have about a month to design the plans and build it.
Like usual I use Blender to make the 3D model and then unfold each parts with Pepakura Designer into 2D plans. I use 6mm Depron foam or foam board or polyfoam for the main material, to assembly all the parts I use hot glue gun. You can download the drawing plans in PDF files on my website.

@@JuliusPerdana did you heard before about a construction method used to build 1/4 scale models using 4 inch thick insulation foam sheets and using gorilla glue to glue the foam blocks together and using a hot wire shape it to the desired sleek form? it is supposed to be a easier construction method for giant scale RC planes do you know any books or pdf that explains this way. I tried burt rutan guide but didn't find a clue.
it's easy but more expensive and lots of waste material, foam block is not cheap compare to depron.

Great Work Julius!, my next EDF Project will have a similar EDF configuration, but smaller, with two 55mm 4S EDFs. I think i will take few ideas from here! (like reinforce the tail/stab structure hehe.

hey julius i’m new to your builds but have been loving them! was wondering where you buy your foam from, im wanting to build the f-35 myself!
I bought them from local shop here, where do you live? I have links for Depron seller on Europe, UK and US
In France, I buy this in a DIY and renovation store and in the “insulation” section.
The word “DEPRON” is a brand, it is extruded foam.
Consider purchasing the necessary materials, a spool of wire to operate the control surfaces, wood glue, hot glue, etc.
A word of advice: try to start with a plane that is easier to fly. You can see the planes that Julius recommends for beginners

1) How much thrust (in grams) is required for this plane (i mean 3.5kg) to be able to fly like yours?
2) Can I use 2200kv motor with a 6042 tri blade propeller instead of 1200kv brushless motor with 8inch prop?
3) Can I use different brand but same 3s 2200mah lipo battery?

I don't have contra prop with that prop size, it's not a problem with pusher props

flaps is not important for light weight model. Main control surfaces : aileron, rudder and elevator. Flap is secondary flight control so not that important, just doing fine without it

It would be so cool if you if you could come to Flitefest in Ohio, Unites states. :) Many people building big scale planes . you would be in your element for sure ! Your build style inspires me, particularly the wings, I'm using the method with depron and have a 1600mm wingspan Lippisch P-15 in the works powered by 80 mm EDF. The wings are so light and yet strong with your method .Great job on Citation -:)

Looks like great wing loading ratio. Could add retracts no problem as well with the room available in the wings. Edf units and retracts this looks like a nice flyer to build. Even fixed gear with props looks great in the air. Nice job.

Is there a calculation between thrust and weight?
for more enjoyable flight you need at least 1:1 thrust weight ratio, but if it just to fly, the plane needs to have thrust at least 60% of weight

I mean I will improve on a new project, I'm sorry I don't revisit old project. All you have to do is just use continous carbon rod from one side of the wing through the middle and to the other side, it will solve the problem

It's 6mm XPS foam, it called in many names : Depron foam, Polyfoam, Foam board with paper coating is also similar, dollar tree foam, blue foam also XPS, etc
