- Welcome Back!
Besides the damage to the starboard side of the hull the most obvious damage was that of the rudder. The bottom part of the rudder had been broken off when beach but all else looked to be in pretty good shape. What we thought would be a quick 1 or 2 hour job ended up taking us alllllll day.
After months of "couch sailing" on RUclips we decided it was time to stop dreaming and dream and start living it. Brit has wanted to sail and own boat for many years but it was always something that didn't seem it could possible for us. Until we stumbled across countless and I mean countless RUclips Channels like, La Vagabonde, Beau & Brandy, Sailing Uma, SV Delos, Parlay Revival, Tula's Endless Summer, Odd Life Crafting, Expedition Evans and the list goes on. We can only hope to inspire one person to chase their dreams as they have inspired us to.
After what seemed like a long search for a sailboat we learned about hurricane damaged boats for auction down in the Caribbean. We came across a listing for a 43 Beneteau Oceanis that was currently being auctioned. We put in our bid and got out bid a few times before finally winning in the end. We had a short window to get from California to St. Thomas USVI to secure our purchase.
Now the fun begins! It is time to refit this hurricane damaged sailboat make her our own.
Thanks for watching!

Another sub here to get you closer to 500! Great drone footage and interesting project. I look forward to following along. Cheers from the west coast of Canada!
Awesome! Thanks CHEERS
Teamwork makes the dream work.
You guys rock and work well together!
Thank you!! We try :)
Way to show that rudder who’s boss. . I’ve been doing plumbing for two weeks. Hot water for everyone .
Lol we’ve definitely underestimated the time it takes to do 1 supposed to be simple project! Congrats on your hot water!!
Great teamwork
It’s the only way to do it!
Videoing and editing are taking a big step up - well done. While these things are not everything, I thought I would mention this as you obviously are trying hard to make it work, and I thought some positive feedback was due... That stuff is a lot more work than anyone gives credit. Your cut scenes and music mix choice and volume are spot on.
P.S. I'm still loving the story, love also the "I'm learning, but willing to give it a go" factor.
Thank you Rohan! That is very much appreciated. Yea it’s not easy… none of this is but we thought it was worth sharing. I’m glad you are enjoying!
Hey again! Sorry to bother ya. What year is your Beneteau? Is she an Oceanis 43? Only reason im asking is. Ours is a 2007 Beneteau Oceanis 43. Hull #26. We just brought her. Our last boat burned up in the Lahaina fire😢.
Im having a hell of time finding parts. Ill give your connection a call tomorrow! Thanks for your help. Any connections or advise would be greatly appreciated!!!!
Aloha and Mahalo
Ian
No worries! 2009 43 Oceanis. I’m sorry to hear about your last boat. You will only be able to find parts for beneteau through spare parts. Just search for “beneteau spare parts” on google. You should be able to find almost everything you need. You can email us at mattyandbrit@sailingwicked.com if you have more questions. Where are you located? Still in Lahaina?
Thanks again for the reply. We're currently still living in Lahaina. We were one of The fortunate ones that didn't lose a house in town. We did lose our boat and our truck. But we just purchased the Beneteau and have her hauled out in Berkeley California. We're going to leave her and Emeryville for a couple years and possibly try to get up to Seattle and eventually back to Lahaina. Where are you guys currently at?
Hey guys. Great video. Did you guys replace the bearings. If so, would you happen to have a contact where I could purchase new ones. We have a B43 and we're looking to change the bearings in ours. Any help would be great!
Hey Thanks! We got them from Beneteau Spare Parts. If you don’t have an account with them go ahead and create one and they’ll connect you with your closest dealer. We go through Denison Yachting in Dania Beach.
Awesome! Thank you for the response!!
