Credit where it's due - they did manage to get a lot of it done, but I had honest doubts that your average PC would be able to handle it. I actually bought a new PC that slightly exceeded their recommended specs in preparation for the game and even then, I think it would have had some problems handling it.
I'm shocked and sad that it's canceled, but everytime I saw footage of the game I always thought it needed a lot more work before releasing. looked unfinished to me.
I refused to get over excited about any game til its out in some playable form. I am really keen on getting Paralives, but also entertaining myself with a very modded Sims 4 right now.
I was looking forward to LBY, but like you, I'm a "I'll believe it when I can play it" person. I'm really hoping that paralives is released in the next year, but we will see.
always had my heat set on paralives instead, the cartoony graphics work so much better as it requires a much less heavy load on your system, and less worry about getting things looking realistic. the life by you sims looked like sims 3 sims if i’m being honest
For a game that was supposedly in development for 6 years already, it looked pretty bad though. No art directors, Unfinished animation because the models are from unity assets store and they dont know how to fix that. (The same models have been found by a user and these had a pretty bad rig hence the animation problems), only 24 workers most of them only knowing how to make mobile games. Honestly im surprised it lasted this long
well, good for them not to lead on players any further. imagine if they decided to ditch the game after early access release. I wonder what happened behind the scenes
Could be that paradox got tired of the game being constantly delayed and decided enough was enough. Or it could have been that both sides were guilty of saying "just one more thing" and jointly as greed that it was never going to be "good enough". No way to tell, unless someone turns whistle blower
@@MuirlySims yeah, I hope they will develop a better strategy going forward and return to the idea of a life sim in the future! we don't have enough of these 😄
Gonna be real as much as I was sad to see one of the great life sim game pillars fall, it was visually gonna struggle against the other four pillars (vivaland, inzoi, paralives) it sucks but the building's still standing, more people are starting to make life sim games, and stuff like denizen and that unnamed life sim game are good examples of this. EA has competition even without life by you, that's undoubted, and we still have potentially fun games to look forward to in the future.
💯! I'm not certain about vivaland (I played their building demo and found it to be very buggy and not at all intuitive to use), but paralives, inzoi, and "unnamed sim game" are definitely ones I'm keeping an eye on!
Check out the game Cults and Daggers. Rod developed it just before he started Life By You. It looks rough, and according to reviews, it has the same issues the LBY ended up having.
Considering Paradox is turning into EA Jr, I'm not surprised. If something isn't done in crunch time at EA, it either gets shut down or rushed out the door for profit, and it seems Paradox Interactive has proven they're no different (see how much DLC they've rushed out for their games.)
It's because they now have shareholders and any company that has shareholders has to put the bank accounts of these shareholders _before_ the quality of the game. I'm completely serious. It's profits first, good content last. And _that_ my friend, is going to be what kills AAA gaming.
to be fair the game had been in development for 5 years. They don't have infinite money to keep investing and delaying and their public reputation is in the gutter so releasing Life By You as it was would be very bad for them.
If you look at Paradox other games they run on predatory DLC. People are so upset with sims that everything else seems good, but Paradox actually sells radio songs as DLC in their other games. They were making an online store not a game, and you could tell that the game just wasn’t good. Which is a requirement of a successful online store like city skylines. The game needs to be good.
People won't buy the dlc if the base game isn't good. You are 100% right on that! Hopefully other life sim games will look at LBY as a precautionary tale.
Paradox cancelled Life by You when thry realized they wouldnt be able to monetize it like they wanted. The devs were promising CC creators could charge for content and the modding tools were so extenseive dlc would be almost unnecessary. Also the game wouldnt have telemtry so they couldnt sell player info either. That's why they cancelled it.
I don't think this was on the shoulders of Paradox. I'd have cancelled the game way earlier. It was clear the devs' ambition was waaaay too high, the game and especially the characters looked absolutely awful, the system requirements were insane and it never seemed to get better with each new update. The team was also way too small for a game this ambitious. It was dead on arrival.
I agree it was too ambitious. They wanted it to appeal to too wide of a player base. They really should have just concentrated on making a good and playable game and then done stuff like a mod API separately.
I wasn't hyped about it but only because it didn't look good to me. I'm big on specific aesthetics. It looked like a game from the early 2000s at best. Also, you can't specialize in everything.
I was willing to give it a fair try, even with the odd graphical style. After all, there are games with horrible graphics which are extremely good. But I was very worried about them trying to do too much in an attempt to get fans of the Sims to change games. Lots of us were excited about LBY, they didn't need to try so hard, imo
Curious note: I want to know is paralives going to be a opening world or a loaded 🤔 screen? I hope they've vehicle's in the base game or expansion pack.
I'm going to be covering all the upcoming life sims in a future video, but to answer your question, Paralives is being developed as an open world game set in a small town and there will be cars, bikes, and boats as transportation.
It's too bad this game, in particular, didn't work out in the long run. While I wasn't hyped for it in particular, I was hopeful to see other games pop up to be one of the options outside of the Sims franchise. I think they weren't realistic about things and probably didnt know how much work would go into it. Not that I'd know what kind would.
The lead designer should have known how much work LBY was going to need, as he was one of the OG Sims designers. At least there are other games coming out within the next 18 months which will be good competition for the Sims.
Right. It's too bad they didn't consider that originally. Hopefully, that team will do better in their next projects, though. How many are out there now? Think of two that I know of anyhow? Hopefully, they have a better outcome than their own.
I wouldn't call it a life sim, but it does look quite interesting and fun! Kinda makes me wish that the acting career in the sims 4 was more like it lol!
I can understand your concerns! It's important to be critical of the games we invest our time and money in. Let's hope Paralives and InZoi offers something more substantial! (Like an actual game)
Considering the Devs had hired well known Simmers here on RUclips to do tutorial videos for Life By You, this news really came as a shock!
When you started to describe what their ambitions were I could already see there was no way it is achievable.

It was more finished than The Sims4 when it came out (lol), but yeah, I completely agree. A lot of LBY assets still looked like place holders, imo.
@@MuirlySims very true. i didn't even bother with sims 4 at launch 😅.

I really do think paralives is going to be a good game, once it's released. (Hopefully soon)

I was _not_ a fan of the graphics style! It looked very uncanny valley and everything kind of blended into everything else.

Too much ambition is a huge fault with game designers. That's why they need developers who aren't afraid to give doses of reality when necessary.

Unfortunately no. Paradox has completely shelved it, with no hopes of it ever seeing a public release
Blockbuster Inc just dropped, it looks cute.
