Tapioca Melon Dessert Soup Recipe สาคูแคนตาลูป - Hot Thai Kitchen

- We do a lot of dessert soups in Thailand (and there is more on this in my cookbook). There are both hot and cold soups, and this is one of my favourite cold ones! Also known as melon sago, this dessert is made from tapioca pearls, melon, coconut...a must try combo! If you lime mango sago, you'd love this too, and you can even substitute mango for the cantaloupe or honeydew melon.
It's a magical combination of aromas: the sweet ripe melons, coconut water, coconut milk and pandan leaves. I especially love the way the tapioca pearls slip and slide in your mouth, which makes it so fun to eat! Cold, refreshing, light, and just mildly sweet, this is the perfect summer dessert, or a light and sweet ending after a big meal!

How long does this keep in the fridge for?
I made this today. It was a super hit with my children and my grand children. My daughter in law said that net time we have a get together after the lockdown is over I should make the desert for the guest. Sure I will do that. A few days back I made the Pad Thai with your recipe and it was a hit as well. Today I went to the Asian store and get the flat rice noodles and I will be makeing Pat Thai again tomorrow and with that will be Pandan chicken as well. (I found Pandan leaves).

First time I actually cooked tapioca pearls so perfectly thanks to you. Thanks for the perfect recipe 🥰
I made this today and OH, MY, GOSH!!!!! It was sooo good.
Dessert soups are extremely popular in Sweden as well. "Sago soppa" is an old time dessert that is extremely easy to make. Water, sugar and tapioca pearls are simply boiled together and the run off starch of the pearls thickens the soup. Fruit is added in at any point depending on the firmness of the fruit and desired texture of end result. It is fantastic with rhubarb or strawberry. It is also delicious when made with rose hips if you live in a climate where you have wild roses. It is finicky work to clean rose hips but if you want to surprise someone with something a little exotic, rose hip sago soup is probably something noone has tried before.

This is the best dessert from Pai's in my opinion. Easy, and absolutely yummy. I'll try this recipe soon.

You are so likable and thank you so so so much for adding the ingredients in ml as well. It is so helpful! I will try your version of this desert. ❤️
i love how thai desserts are so easily made lactose-free! can't wait to try this with some mango, maybe watermelon when it's in season.
Love this soup. I love tapioca. I love that serve cold.
Why not add the coconut water after the coconut milk soup is cooled...that way you dont destroy the nutrients...... Weeeeee.....love how she does that
It looks so refreshing. Definitely I will try. Yummy!
Looks healthy and yummy. I had this soup 5yrs back and then onwards I was looking for receipe. Gotta and thank you.
Why don't you have your own tv show already?! The world would be a better place if more people learned how to cook Thai food
But she does have her own television show!
I didn't know that, will have to watch thank you!
Anne you're awesome! She's a host on "One World Kitchen" (2 seasons) on Gusto TV - but yes having her own TV show would be very VERY cool! (soon? :) )
No Pai, the number one problem of this recipe is I ate them all in one evening hahaha so delicious! even though I used evaporated milk instead because I didnt have fresh milk on hand. Love your videos!

Leticia Gomes That is neat. In the Philippines' dialect called Tagalog the pearl is called "sago".
mcanisthal in Malaysia it's called sago as wells

Pai I love it. Thank you.
I’m making this today. I have all the ingredients!
Thank you for clarifying how to cook the tapioca. I buy the package at the Asian markets and every single one of those do not explain how to cook it - SO FRUSTRATING! Thank you Pai!

Is the color tapioca available at T&T?
Hi! Don't know at the moment, but if they don't here 88 probably has it. All the places we shop are on the map here hot-thai-kitchen.com/locate-a-thai-grocer/ Cheers! Adam
Looks delicious 😋🤤😋 Yummy
Can you also use a tablespoon of condensed milk instead of the sugar?
We have something like this in the Philippines but it's more of a drink than a dessert :P
We blend the cantaloupe with the broth in the blender to make a smoothie, add tapioca pearls and add juiliened cataloupe in it :P
juliened jack fruit would be nice in that too :)
Scandinavia and Russia do a great deal of sweet cold soups.
Does this work with any other fruit like lychee?
I wish i knew before hand that melons become bitter after its mixed with MILK!!! I just made this at home and the water/coconut milk/milk part was delicious!!! But turned bitter after i added my honeydew 😭 tomorrow im gonna just do the coconut milk
i like watching your cooking.
If I can't find Pandan and don't want vanilla with coconut, what spice would you substitute? Maybe nutmeg?

But where can I get that scoop which u used for the melon?
I'll definitely gonna try this for the upcoming summer holidays cause that's seem to be really refreshing and it's damn hot during summer in MAURITIUS.
r u from Mauritius?
i ordered mine from Aliexpress
i am from Mru too
you can just cut cantaloupe into cubes
Swaleha Deenally Dowlet: yeah I'm from Mauritius.
tthesweetestsinn: great idea thnx
Can I replace the dairy milk and use all coconut milk instead?
yes
More beans and pandan recipes please
a video about the king of thailand? :) i want you to talk about it let people know about him
BadAss!!! ILove You!!!
I have to almost constantly stir whenever
I cook tapioca
even with the boiling water, non stick pot, a small amount of oil,
it still sticks on bottom of pan
if you don’t stir
Put more water
Trouble Shooting Question : I get coconut milk in the can, but it's usually somewhat solidified, they don't look as milky as yours. Are they okay to use or should they be heated to melt it first?
LuvAznDramas double check that u bought coconut milk it sounds like u have bought coconut cream
the milk cuddles..it is still ok when you boil the whole liquid...it will become watery again.
Great!
is tapioca pearls and sago are the same? ??? or can I add sagu into it for this recipe? ???
Literally the same. In Thai, we call it 'Sakoo' which is from the same root.
+tthesweetestsinn thank you :)
It is called "sago" in many parts of the world (Sweden for example where it is a form of the Swedish word for fairy-tale, pleasingly).
We call saboodana in hindi the tapoica
Wauwww!!! 😊😄
Sedap
